Thinking about getting one since I will bee traveling A lot this year. Can you upload book you already own? Can you print book you buy? I would hate to have to repurhase some of my favorites. Also do you own the book when you buy it or is it like iTunes where you only own it on one computer. What I'd dh and I both got an ereader can we both read the books like we could a real book?

I have six devices (four Kindles and 2 iPods) on my Kindle account; we can all read all the books. I have no idea how Nook works.

I work at B&N, yes both you and your husband could each have the ebook on your nook. The biggest difference between kindle and nook ( to me) is the storage space. Kindle's storage is limited, nook can hold 1500 books, but can read stuff on sd cards, so essentially limitless.
Nope, can't print things, on either I think, and yes if you own the traditional book you'd have to buy the ebook again, but ebooks are typically cheaper, particularly if you read a lot of hardcovers.

txSleepingbeauty, can I ask you a Nook question? Does Barnes & Noble have any storage options like the Amazon archiving feature? I have a Kindle and love it, and the storage feature wasn't really important to me ever. If Amazon can store all of my purchased material on its servers, why does it matter if the Kindle can only hold 1500 books?

I never understood all of the Kindle people who were upset when Amazon dropped that feature from the Kindle when the redesigned one came out. It just seems to me that having a bunch of little SD cards floating around isn't a good option, either. If Amazon will house my virtual bookshelf I don't care how big the memory is!

My home is filled with books -- books everywhere -- and that's one of the reasons I wanted a kindle! And I still don't have anything approaching 1500 books, and don't expect to, so that seems like enough storage to me, especially since most books I'll only read once and then delete anyway.

Just got mine yesterday and I'm enjoying it. Also got some Amazon gift cards, so I can't wait to go shopping!

Welcome to the Kindle world, daisax!!!!

Give Kindle for PC a try. I have it on my ASUS netbook and use it when I'm traveling. No sense in carrying both a Kindle and a laptop. Sizewise it's about the same and the price is right....free.

I don't have a notebook. I work for the government so they don't give us notebooks to use (information security) and there was no point in buying one personally especially since the aircards are pretty expensive. That's why I thought of the kindle/nook. I like to travel light but flying and hotels get pretty boring. I'm really looking into the nook since it has a touchscreen.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I just downloaded it unto my laptop. So siked!

I'd suggest you go into a B&N first and try one of the nooks.
Some people love that touchscreen and some find it really annoying. Also thoroughly check out some of the reviews because the nook is a newly released 1st gen product and the reviews on it have been mixed.

Also, make a list of the books you tend to buy and price check the prices of the various stores. Their are several different types of eBook readers (more than even just kindle and nook) but at the end of the day they all pretty much do the same thing and look very similar. What you are going to care about is the books you're buying to read and how much they cost you.

Maybe this is a stupid question buy I'm going to ask anyway..What if I have a amazon gift card how do I use it to buy books when my credit card is already registered for amazon? does that make sense??

Go to your account page on Amazon.com and apply the gift certificate to your account.

As long as you have a gift certificate balance you kindle book purchases will be deducted from the gc before your credit card.

Not sure why anyone would expect their place of employment to provide them with a laptop/netbook when they are so cheaply available. For the price of a Kindle, you get a fairly decent netbook, load Kindle for PC and have a multi-function device to use when traveling. With the number of places with free wifi, I see no reason for anyone to have an aircard. I take my ASUS netbook with me everywhere we travel and have it available to read Kindle books or watch movies I have ripped off DVDs, especially when I'm flying.
