I'm looking at getting a Kindle. I'm torn between Touch 3G, Keyboard 3G and Fire. I added others to the poll for additional information.

Two part question really.

#1) What do you have and what do you love about it? What do you hate about it? What would you purchase if you could do it all over again?

#2) Does the Fire only stream video (no storage, can't download, etc.)? I ask because I would love to lie on the beach or go on a cruise and watch a video or two.

I havé the keyboard 3G and i love it. I also havé an iPad and both thé kobo and thé kindle apps. The touchscreen is a pain. Thé keyboard is just easier to use and thé eink technology is the n'est for an ereader.

Love my Kindle. I have tons of books stored, ready to read at the beach. I think a film would use lots of memory if stored. My son has a Fire and thinks memory would be an issue.

Have the Nook Tablet which is like the Kindle Fire and I love it!! SO did my kids so had to buy another one so I wouldn't have to "share" it with them. :)

I have the keyboard 3G and love it. My sister-in-law has the touch 3G (and also loves hers). My next purchase will be the Fire, but as an addition to the family as opposed to a replacement.

Before choosing what I wanted, I went to the stores. You can play with a Nook in B&N as well as some WalMarts, and you can play with a Kindle in Target (or they all used to have displays set up). Originally, I liked the weight of the Nook (I think the version I was looking at was a little heavier than the Kindle), but I had a difficult time navigating it. One Nook I looked at had a little touchscreen at the bottom for the keyboard and navigational space but not for the reading space. That was what made me go with the Kindle.

If you are planning on mostly reading, you'll probably prefer one with the eInk technology versus the color screen. It's easier on the eyes, plus it's more like looking at a book. If you want to read magazines, have picture books and such for kids, and/or want to really do more than just read books, go for the Fire.

I have the Kindle keyboard and I love it. My dd has the Kindle touch, she loves it but I hate it. I am not a fan of the touch screen.

Didn't even realize they were in stores to try - Thanks!

I like the 3G with Keyboard, the text to speech feature is great in the car. I have saved a ton of money over buying AudioBooks.

I got an ipad. Through that I can use both kindle and nook. I only use kindle. I prefer to use it on my ipad and when they came out with the latest addition there was no need to "upgrade" because I basically had that. The one thing I did like about the nook, when I had it, was being able to use it in their store. Sounds silly, but that was my escape some days when DH get off work. Go to Barnes and Noble, grab a coffee and read.

Between my wife and I we have a Nook eInk, Kindle 3g w/keyboard, Nook tablet, Kindle Fire, 1st gen Ipad, 3rd gen Ipad.

For reading we prefer the Kindle and Nook with eInk.

The Fire and Ipads are difficult to read in bright sunlight. She brought her ipad to Castaway Cay and it didnt work so well. I brought the Kindle 3g and loved it.

Plus the battery life on tablets will not last the day. I can get a few hours on my Fire, but our last vacation I charged my Kindle 3g w/keyboard before I left for the airport and it lasted me on an 11 day trip before it need charging again.

I haven't stored any movies on the Fire. I like streaming Netflicks on it however. Tablets are nice though. We call them "Couch Computers," since that is where we use the Ipads and Fire most.

We have the Kindle Keyboard and love it. Chose it because e-ink was easier to read than the color models and I didn't like the touchscreen. Touchscreens create smudges from fingerprints and need to be cleaned to read. We also picked the Kindle over the Nook because I don't have faith that brick and mortor bookstores will be around in a few years and didn't want to be associated with one for my reader.

I really don't think you can go wrong with any of them, but those were my reasons. Go to a Staples and try out the different models to make a decision.

I have a Kindle Touch and I absolutely love it. It's one of the best gifts I've ever gotten. I don't mind the touch screen and it's exactly what I need, just something simple and basic to use for reading.

I decided on the Touch because I like the touch screen. One tap of my finger and the page turns! I have the Kindle app on my iPad, but I can't read for very long because it's just too bright for my eyes. There is really nothing I dislike about it. It's perfect for my needs.

I have a Nook Touch, and absolutely LOVE it!!! Our daughter has the Kindle Fire and absolutely LOVES it!! Neither of us like the others device! :rotfl: I really don't think you can go wrong, and you will fall in love with whatever you choose! We just got back from a 10 day cruise/Orlando vacation and our Nook/Kindles were constant companions. I prefer the e-ink on the Nook, dd prefers the Kindle because she likes to read in bed at night with no lights on.

I have the Kindle Fire. The glare can get frustrating, but they have anti-glare plastic that you can put on the face of the Kindle.

I just put the anti-glare on mine last week and it is nice! Really cuts back on the glare, especially at night when reading in the dark.

I was going to get the 3G with keyboard, but DH told me that if I didn't get the Fire that I would probably regret it. I have to admit that he is right.

DH and DS play Angry Birds, and I read, read, read!!

I have a Nook that is over a year old and love it. I wasn't sure I would, but was pleasantly surprised. I like the non-glare of it. Since I don't have much experience with the other e-readers, I can't comment on the pros or cons.

I'll second what a previous poster mentioned. Go to Target and play with them. The Target near me has Nooks, Kindles, & Ipads on display that you can try out.

I have had a Kindle Fire since mid January :) Love it!! Its very easy to use, so easy my 2 year old can use it. Which is very annoying when you have stepped into the restroom and then exit to find that you child has opened Angry Birds and is playing happily (even if the birds are flying the wrong way and the 4 year old is trying to help him and it ensues in a struggle, lol!).

I don't normally read in bright sunlight so I am unable to address that, as far as reading in the dark I put it in "night mode" which has a black background and white lettering. There is also the option of putting it in a mode that has a soft vanilla background with dark brown lettering. I am betting that it might be easier for some to see at that contrast, but I don't liek the vanilla color so I don't use it. Threr are so many free books available and sites dedicated to telling you what is new and free.

I bought my cover at 5 Below. Its not fancy, just a folio style cover with elastic stays at the side, but it works well. A cover for what ever model you get would serve you wll to give that extra layer of protection, esp. if you go with the larger screen tablet style readers.

I have the Kindle Keyboard 3G. I love it. It was an upgrade from the Kindle Keyboard with Wi-fi.

My mom got it for me for Christmas. She kept asking me, "Don't you want a Kindle Fire?" I thought and thought and decided on NO. For me, I feel like I already spend too much time on the internet between my smartphone and my laptop. I knew that if I got the Fire, the internet would suck me in and I'd spend my time checking Facebook and email. I wanted something for *reading only.*

I didn't upgrade to the Touch for several reasons - one of which was that the battery life is supposedly shorter.

So I don't have all the bells and whistles and I am happy with it that way. I am very glad I upgraded from Wi-fi to 3G though. I had found that there were many times that I couldn't access something I wanted because I wasn't in a Wi-fi hotspot. Never have run into that problem with 3G.

I have a Kindle Keyboard 3G. It replaced my K2 that I gave to my mother. My DD has a Fire. The Fire is fun but for reading, I prefer my Kindle Keyboard. :thumbsup2

I have the Kindle Touch for reading and got the Fire for other stuff..I really like the E ink and don't like to read on the Fire..so...I have both and love them both, just use them for different things.
