Pros and Cons.

DD9 wants an Ipod touch.. Re-thinking maybe get a family gift instead (Kindle Fire or ipad).

These are just my opinion..

But I'd go with the Touch for your dd, if that's what she wants.

The IPad is wonderful, but expensive... the Kindle Fire is great price, but not sure how limited it's going to be.. and has no camera, no memory expandability for being a tablet.

I was debating the Fire or the Touch for older dd, and decided I'm getting her the new Touch that just was announced Tuesday... so have to wait another week to buy it.

Reasons: Portability, camera/video camera (which I'm sure she's going to love), price, cheap apps, and I already have a Touch, so lot of the apps I've bought (that she plays) will transfer over for her.

I've been researching these items lately, and I don't think your three-way comparison is quite fair: The real comparison is between the iTouch and the Kindle Fire. The ipad is really in a separate category. It can do much more, but it's also double the price.

Thus, I suggest that you should first decide between your two categories. Do you want to go full-throttle with the ipad (and the big price), or is it between the two machines with more moderate capacities/prices?

That'll narrow things down.

Same debate over here, but after a bit more research and discussion, we decided on iPods for the kids, so they can each have their own. Not worried about the 8 year old, but a bit worried about the 4 year old, but he does well with hubby's iPod, so hopefully it will be a great choice!

iPads are $500.00+, and Kindle Fire is not available in Canada. And, we can get our iPods at a discount corporate rate of $187.00 through hubby's office (I am a teacher, but no real Apple teacher discount, except on iMacs). And this is for the brand new ones straight from Apple.

So, we can get 2 iPods for less than the cost of an iPad. Hubby has an iPod and the kids love it! They love the cooking, crafting and zoo/animal apps!

Good luck to OP - we were seriously considering the iPad as a family gift, but we already haev multiple laptops, netbook and desktop computer, so no need at this time.

Happy shopping, Tiger :)

I highly recommend AGAINST getting the iPad as a family gift. If you have kids, they'll be fighting you for it. :lmao: I recommend the Touch in your situation.

I have an Ipad 2 and my wife and both of my DD's each have their own Touch. Works out very well seeing as I never let the Ipad leave my side. :rotfl:

In all seriousness, as a previous poster stated you can't really compare the Kindle, Touch and Ipad. They appear similar but really are quite different.

Same situation here - DS is asking for an iPod Touch, but is open to the idea of a Kindle Fire. I'm just so not a fan of iTunes and I gave DS my old iPod Shuffle and he hardly uses it. He does love using my Android (Evo) for Angry Birds and a few other apps that I downloaded just for him (I personally don't like the game...I know, blasphemy, right?) Anyway, another thought was me giving him my Evo once I upgrade (and just use it like a Touch, not the phoen piece), but I'm eligible now and I really love my Evo and haven't seen anything that knocks my socks off enough to upgrade.

Good point on the camera, though. I thought the Fire would be great for him since it would be bigger for games and he could read books on it. I know there is a Kindle app, but I have it on my Evo and it is just a bit small for real use. But he couldn't carry it around for pictures...but how often does he want to do that??? He uses the camera on his DS with his friends, but doesn't use his standalone camera or videocamera that somebody just passed along to him. Hmmm...

Decisions, decisions!
