Kindle Fire vs iPad, has anyone owned both?

I have both. iPad, hands down.

Why is it Ipad hands down?
My DS showed his Ipad today. He thought he could convince me that I really need an Ipad.
I wasn't really impressed especially since I had to pay for a data plan. Can the Ipad be tethered to your phone if you doen't use an IPhone or do you pay for two data plans?
Really on the fence on what to buy! BTW, I have 2 Ipads that I bought on BF but I may just return them. leaning toward the Kindle Fire HD with a data plan that is $149 a year for 250 mb monthly. I can usually find Wi-Fi so the 250 mb would basically be for on the road. My phone is unlimited so I can tether in locations with no Wifi.
The thing I am waiting for is a planning system. Franklin Covey says "coming soon" for both Ipad and Android. :confused3 because I am!!!

I own a Kindle Fire and an Ipad 3. We are an Apple family. My Dh has an Imac and my ds and I have MacBook pros. Our phones are androids through Ting mobile. We also have iPods. We do not pay for a monthly data plan. We just pay for what we need. My ipad has 4g with AT&T and I can buy it by the month when we travel.
I love my ipad for the Internet and I love my kindle for email , games and for reading books. I usually watch tv shows and movies when I am not at home on wifi through amazon prime and Hulu.on my Ipad. I have had my kindle fire since it came out - I preordered it. I bought my ipad 3 this summer. I carry the kindle in my purse but leave the ipad in the car.
Either way you can't go wrong. I love them both for different reasons.
From my experience... Get your teenager what he asks for.... They know what they want. I wanted to buy my son who is in college the MacBook Pro retina.... But he preferred the MacBook without the retina display as he could customize it.

We already have two iPads, and don't have a data plan for either. So, you aren't stuck paying for data plans unless you want to! I have an iPhone which can be tethered, so we can access wifi on the iPad whenever I need to.

Thanks again, everyone! I had decided to go ahead and splurge on the new Kindle Fire HD....until he changed his mind and decided on the iPad tonight.

I guess I'm going to wait it out a little while in case he changes his mind again. I don't think I'm at risk of them running out of things.

I did try to sway him towards the iPad mini, but he likes the regular iPad. I'll see if that changes.

All that stress over something new, and it looks like we're sticking with Apple again:).

Ok I have a question. I have an iPad and Amazon Prime. I downloaded the Kindle app onto my iPad.

Now, I was under the impression that you could rent one book a month for free with your Prime membership, or get free books, or something :confused3 who knows what - I don't really remember. I am very excited now - :cool1:- looking at a blank & empty Kindle app LOL.

Help - how do I get "free" or rent free books? :badpc:

So confused & :surfweb: challenged.

Thanks!

(The app does look pretty exciting :thumbsup2 just wish there was something on there to read)

I have not done it yet, but I think you have to do it through the Kindle Store on the amazon.com website.

First you need to go in and register your device. Here is a link to get you started. Be sure to register as an iPad...not a kindle.

I honestly think that you can only get the free book if you have an actual Kindle..not just the app.

When you go to the Kindle book store, just search for "free" and a bunch will show up. I couldn't find the link to free books, so I had to do a search. Once you choose a book, just choose your device on the right hand side, and it will be delivered within minutes!

Like some of the other posters have said, the free book from the lending library can only be checked out from an actual Kindle (eink or Fire). They are not available from any of the tablet/phone apps or from the computer.

THANK YOU! Worked perfectly. Even if I can't get the free books to borrow with my Prime membership, there are a ton of free books available and I was able to access & read them following the instructions on your link.

Thank you so much :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I'm so glad I could offer help for a change. The first few times I tried adding a book, I would forget how I had made it work before. I think I've got it down to a science now!
