For those who have the Kindle Fire and Touch, which would you recommended for someone who needs to make the print bigger.

Not sure if she will use the apps or newspaper, but who knows once she gets into it. She still lives in the world of a "cell phone is just a phone," and will get on facebook once in a blue moon.

Keep going back and forth and it's driving me crazy. We live in different states, so I cannot go to the store with her and see which one works better.

Any input would be appreciated!

I think it depends on if she would use it for other things and how good she is with learning how to use technology. We got my gma a kindle touch because the fire is according to her "too much and too difficult". she is not tech savy and needed the larger print too. She loves hers, and would not stream movies, surf the web etc so it was not worth the money. Also, she struggled in learning how to use her basic kindle. My 10 year old has spent probably 10 hours so far helping her with her touch. She still does not quite have the hang of it, but we have 15 more days to train her before she heads home. If it was much harder, she would not have used it.

I got my grandmother the Nook Simple Touch. I knew she'd only use it for reading and wanted the e-ink not a back-lit screen. She uses a magnifying glass in order to read print books and she is loving the large font choices!

I'd say use and e-ink vs. back-lit is what you should base your selection on.

Thanks, went back and forth and ended up purchasing the Kindle keyboard with free 3g and wifi (on sale at target today for $99).

She won't use any of the extra's and the backlight will annoy her after a short while.

I set up the Kindle, made an amazon account for her, loaded some books and will send off tomorrow. Made a sheet with instructions on it, so hopefully that gets her started!!

I've had that one for a while and I love it! Great price!

Is the Kindle Keyboard still on sale today? That's the one I've been planning to get!!!

I believe it is on sale today as well. Someone on another board posted the sign at their target. It showed a 3 day temporary price cut.

My store and others had no sign posted.

Good luck!!!

Woot, thanks! I checked my Target store online and it said "limited availability." I called and they said they would hold one for an hour. When I got there I saw there were actually a number still in the case (8 or 9 maybe?) I'm THRILLED to have walked out of there with paying $99+ tax for it! I went home and ordered the lighted cover from Amazon (paid for half of it with a rewards card I earned) and altogether spent $130 for the Kindle AND the cover! :cool1:

Oh, interestingly, there were two signs up for this item, one saying it was $119 and the other $99. Confusing!

to me, this is the biggest difference..the E-Ink instead of computer type screen can make a big difference for those with old tired eyes (I am speaking of myself :) ), so unless you think Mom is going to all of sudden want to check facebook on the fly and stream episodes of Walking Dead, I'd probably go with the Touch. I went through this same dilemma for myself. Thought all the bells and whistles looked fun, but then focused on what I really want which is an e-reader, not a tablet. I have a netbook for travelling and am not a big 'streamer', and really thought the E-Ink would be what I'd like as far as eye strain, so went with the Touch and am happy with the choice.

I have a 2nd generation Kindle (keyboard type) that is 3G and Just love it but when I found out I needed WIFI to check out books from the library I knew I wanted a WIFI/3G model so I got the Kindle touch and I am sooo sold on it! Make sure you get one with WIFI so Mom can get free library books, it is as easy as buying them on Amazon. It's super easy to change the letter size and the e-ink is great on your eyes. I read a couple books a week so I really want the easy on the eyes.
The Fire is next on my list, but I would probably not use it much for reading because of the back lighting. My DH has a tablet and reads it in bed and that light is distracting! It has alot of extra bells and whistles that if you really only want it for reading you would not use.
