I am considering one for each of my 2 daughters ages 10 and 7). They each have refurb ipods and have taken very good care of them. For those who have used Kindles in the past, what is your opinion on what they are saying this will be. Have you been happy with your Kindle. I would be buying this as not only an e reader but also for apps, music, etc. I have an iPad and love it and they are always wanting to use it. We travel a lot so I thought this would be good for passing time. Oh, and one of my girls is a heavy reader and video games girl while the other isn't as into reading or games but does love music and apps that aren't really intense games. Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I got the regular Kindle for Christmas last year and DD has been asking for one of her own ever since. Since she was also wanting a gadget for music, movies, and games the Kindle Fire should be just the thing for her. She was asking for an ipad but I don't think I could bring myself to spend that much money for a gadget that's gonna be hauled all over creation by a 9yo. I'm hoping the Kindle Fire works well for her. From all reports it should do just what she needs. I wish it had 3G but wifi should suffice.

My DD has no interest in one, I however think they look neat. She uses her Touch to read and doesn't mind the small screen. She has a laptop too, but it isn't as portable. She thinks they are too large to be portable like the touch. I have a Nook Color and have yet to use it.

I just put a nook on layaway ive heard that kindle may have " bug" issues with the fire! Nook is what they are trying to copy so im done shopping!

I pre-ordered 2 Kindle Fires for my two DDs, ages 11 and 8. I think that they are going to love them! I love my Kindle and my iPad and this looks like the perfect thing for their ages.

I have a question about the games that you can buy for it. Do you buy these from Amazon only?

You can only use Amazon App store to purchase games for right now. Until someone hacks and can put Google market on it.

Thanks! They probably require you to "buy" their movies too. Just wondering if you could use digital copies of DVDs that you already own............:confused3

I think you can buy uploading them to their cloud storage.

Where did you hear this?

I've been following every bit of news I can find about it, and I've seen nothing about bugs. I've seen some Ipad and B&N fanboys saying that the Fire will be bad, but no real information.

It is very similar to a totally hacked Nook Color with a faster processor. The Nook is too slow for me and 95% of people aren't going to hack their Nook.

Amazon has a 30 day return policy for all of their Kindles. So I'm getting one and if I don't like it enough, I'm returning it.:thumbsup2

No you can upload anything you own to the cloud server. You don't have to buy their stuff.

And don't forget that you can get free books on your Kindles through your local library(if they participate!)

I've preordered two for my daughters, ages 18 and 23, for Christmas. I think they will be great for magazine reading and movie streaming. They have regular eink Kindles for reading so I think the Fire will be a great addition to their electronic libraries.

I heard about it at best Buy I was there looking and geek squad said Nook was good choice because kindle was trying to copy the nook and nook had it already down.. and was more user friendly... Barnes and Nobles will also help you in person Free to download. use anything on nook they have people that thats all they do is work with nooks.. havent found a " store" that has a live person that if I walk into it with a kindle will sit and show me how to use it and or help me load stuff.! also was told that may be very good chance that if u have not already ordered your fire may not get for holidays..
I really like option of walkig into a store and having hands on help in person for all my questions and concerns not over a phone or rushed beacuse there will be no other commission to be made by helping me.

I am looking to purchase the Kindle Fire for my daughter and you actually made some good points but I thought B&N was closing the brick and morrtar stores due to their financial issues-or is that Borders? I can't remember....

Funny that the Kindle is suddenly so bad, reviews don't follow that pattern!

:thumbsup2

Actually, it's not suddenly. Competitors have trashed the Kindle all along. It's annoying because both the Nook and Kindle are great products and having options and competition are a good thing for the consumer.

I have Fire on pre order!

And as the owner of two Kindles, I have never felt that I was missing out by not being able to go in a store and ask for help. Using them is that easy. And one of the reasons I got an Ereader is so that I don't have to go to a store.

My husband and I each have a kindle and love it. I don't like the Nook as much I'm honestly not sure why but I have played with both and didn't like it.

There is alot of misinformation out there about the Fire and why the Nook is better. I think for most people they would both be pretty good though but if you really want what is better for you I would do some research and not just believe the person in Best Buy. Best Buy is not known for having the most knowledgable or honest employees, it is luck of the draw if the person you got knew anything or not. My husband works at Target and you wouldn't believe the misinformation he hears co-workers telling guests all the time. Including one that was taking about all the hidden fees of the Fire yesterday (which by the way don't exist unless you mean the movie streaming feature, which isn't really hidden)

We plan to get a Fire for us and give my mom one of the old Kindles. We just have to decide which one (the newer one with just wi-fi or the older one that can download anywhere)

This does depend on the person. If I wasn't living 5 min from my mom this would be important to her (now she just calls us up and my husband or I will go help her). But she is one of those people that takes a month to figure out and get used to a new cell phone (and we aren't taking a smart phone).

Its similar for computers some people will only buy from places where they can ask a lot of questions and get help. Me I can get a computer from anywhere that has what I want a good price because I know what what I want and can just pick one. I have never had to call anyone or go to a store to ask for help on a computer, so I highly doubt I would want to with a Kindle.

As you said above both are great products, and what is best for one person may not be best for everyone. This is another reason not to just ask the people in stores, most of the people in stores if they know anything are more of a techie types, if that isn't you what you get from them may not be best, and if this is you, you probably did research online anyway because you like looking at this kind of stuff.

I have a Kindle and so do my S, my FIL, and my BIL.

My SIL (my BIL's wife) bought a nook for her and her daughter. She bought the nook because she wants to support a brick and mortar book store and wants Barnes and Noble to stay in business. Personally since I feel B&N has led to the extinction of independently owned bookstores, I don't really care.

When I bought my Kindle 3 last year, it had just come out and I felt it was superior to the Nook that was available at that time. Since then the Nook has upgraded and I think it is similar to my Kindle.

I did order the Kindle Fire. I think that it will be used for completely different things than my Kindle 3 so I'm hoping to use both.

I think the Kindle Fire looks nice. I'm going to hold off though and see if a 3G version comes out later on.

I have a Kindle Keyboard and have orderd my daughter a touch 3G for Christmas.
