If you buy a Kindle at some place other than Amazon, does it have the ads? Just wondering!

Yes it has ads. I think you have to buy the non-ad version to get rid of them. I didn't think it was worth the extra money.

You can choose to purchase one with or without ads even if you buy it somewhere other than amazon. It just depends on what that merchant has available.

You can buy any Kindle version with or without ads. We have done both. We have the Kindle Fire with ads. It is non-intrusive. I wish we bought the Kindle 3G with ads instead of paying for it w/o ads. The ads are not a big deal at all. Have bought Kindles direct from Amazon as well as Best Buy. No difference. HTH!:goodvibes

I think you pay a little more for the non ad ones no matter where you buy it. I have a regular kindle with the ads and they are no big deal. Its more like a screen saver that goes away once you turn it on.

DH bought me a Fire HD 8.9 for Christmas, and I know he purchased it at Radio Shack. It has "ads" on it - but they are not annoying at all. The ad appears on the main screen when the Fire is turned on, but disappears as soon as I unlock the screen with a swipe of my finger. On the Amazon site in my account, I was given the option to "opt out" of the "special offers" on my new Kindle by paying $15 - at which point Amazon would disable the "offers". I'd rather spend $15 on APPs or reading material since the "offers" are not a nuisance at all.

Does anyone know if you buy a Kindle with Ads can you pay the difference and get the ads disabled? :confused3

bought mine through amazon, they stand behind it when I had a problem even after the warranty so I think its better to purchase through them..

When you buy a Kindle from any vendor, you register your Kindle at Amazon.com. Our Kindle purchased from Best Buy needed to be sent back to Amazon and there were no issues honoring mfg. warranty during the first year. It is is the same as if you bought a product Sony, LG, etc. A manufacturer's warranty is a manufacturer's warranty. Now if you were to buy an extended warranty past the time it may be through the store where you purchased. I don't buy extended warranties so can't chime in on that. Just wanted to clarify so that people have peace of mind should they want to buy from a brick and mortrar.:thumbsup2

Supposedly you can do it through the 'Manage my Kindle' link on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/myk. It's under 'My Devices', where it says 'subscribed'. I know we did it for my DD's Touch. I think we paid around $15 or so. For us, it was worth it.

We have Paperwhite and Fire with ads and 3G w/o Ads. The reason the Kindles with ads are cheaper is that you are getting the discounted price to see the ads. Otherwise you need to pay more for the one without the ads. We bought the one without the ads first and then the 2 with the ads after that one. The ads are hardly noticeable. Really.:goodvibes

I agree with everyone else, I don't even notice the Ads.

They stand behind it no matter where you purchase it. I bought mine at Staples and just went through Amazon when it wasn't working.
