I was thinking about getting a Kindle Fire for my son so he could play games, surf internet, read, etc. and get him off my computer. :goodvibes

Is it possible to download games from the Internet like Wizard 101, or do you have to stick with their game apps? And am I misreading on Amazon that there are only 35 games available?

I'm not sure about downloading games and apps from the internet, but my husband said there is a cable we can get to put music and books from other places on to my Kindle. I just got it a few days ago, so we haven't do it yet.

As for games, there are tons of apps, more than 35 games! I looked for a friend yesterday and there are 265 apps just in the kids category.

I am interested in the repsonse to this as well as we are on the fence between a laptop and kindle fire.

My sister bought a Kindle fire for her daughter for her birthday, I got on to Wizard 101 website, but didn't download anything on to the Kindle. Just curious as well.

Anybody else? Any pros and cons on the Kindle Fire would be appreciated as well.

I bought the Kindle Fire for my Daughter (8) for Christmas. I must confess I have been messing with it every night since i got it last week. I have put several movies on it and downloaded several games. She is going to wonder how she got to level 25 on Angry Birds without ever playing it. Im going to blame it on santa's elves :) I am VERY pleased with the Kindle Fire. When watching movies (Cars 2) the picture is fantastic. the touch screen is very easy, especially for small fingers. I am soooo glad I picked this for her. She will enjoy this way more than a laptop. Now Im considering buying myself one. There are sooooo many apps to download. Lots of games. When she is around wifi she can play any online game. I highly recommend the Kindle Fire. Today on Amazon if you pay for the Fire with a mastercard its $189 :) Great deal !

I got mine today at Office Max. They're $199, but they give you a $15 Office Max gift card with purchase. That deal is through Saturday. In store only.

My husband has downloaded several games from other places online. You need a cable to do it. I think they have to already be in an android format. Some have worked well and others haven't. There are tons of games in the app store though and there is a free app everyday. So far all but have been games.
It's really going to depend on how it is going to be used if I would recommend it over a laptop. For me, I'll never get completely away formt he laptop because a lot internet content is kind of limited on the Kindle. For example, Facebook is more like my iphone version than the full thing. Same with ebay. If they are going to be watchign movies and reading books, it is fantastic. For my kids's internet usage, it would probably still be fine. As an adult I would still keep a laptop for my main web browsing at home.

Could my kids go to youtube and watch videos? Would that video work well?

I'm not understanding about needing a cable to download things online. Could you explain that a little further? Thanks!!
