I know the Kindle Fire isn't out yet but hoping people with kids that already have something like a kindle or iPad might be able to tell me which type cover/case would be best for a 9 year old.

Something like a sleeve

Or, something like a cover

Any others to consider? I like the idea of the 2nd one because it would always have some sort of padding/protection around it.

I recommend the padded type cover that you leave on all the time (I didn't look @ your links) with a front that shuts when you're not using it. Much more protective. I dropped my son's Kindle on the floor and killed the screen when it didn't have a cover on it. I know DD has dropped her Kindle in the case and it was fine.

I use the same type of cover for my iPad.

I think the sleeves are kind of silly for things like Kindles, iPhones, etc. because when you're actually holding the devices and using them is a good time to have them more protected.

Besides, with the Fire, you want something that will allow it to stand up to watch videos and things.

I'd recommend the second case you linked. We have a similar leather Roo case for DH's Acer Iconia tablet, and it is very well made. He hasn't dropped it, but I do believe that the case would offer a substantial amount of protection if he did.

The problem with sleeves is that the device has to be taken in and out each time it is used, so an accidental drop of the unprotected tablet is likely to happen.

I hadn't really thought too much about what I was getting for DD7's Fire. Now you people have made me think! :lmao:

I would think what would be best for a child would be an Otterbox type case for when it's being used and a sleeve for additional protection when it's not in use. But I'm guessing sleeves won't have enough extra room to fit over a case. :sad1:

Any thoughts?

Love the Roo cases btw!!!

Subscribing to this thread! I have a pre-order on a Fire for DS7 (almost 8) and I'm pretty sure we'll want a case of some sort!

Thanks for the input! I am really leaning toward the roo case. I was thinking pink since she loves pink but looking at it .... does the color around the edges get annoying, especially if you are reading for a long time?

Maybe black would be best? Anyone regret having a colorful reader case?

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking! :goodvibes I want the red case, but am really worried about it distracting me. I think I am going to get the black one!

I ordered the black cover (changed it from pink). Did anyone also order the anti-glare screen protectors for the Kindle Fire?

I was waiting on a cover for my touchpad when my DD tossed me the remote....cracked the side of my precious touchpad!!! OY. It is small but STILL. I had just had it a week! Of course got the cover in the mail 2 days later. Thankfully it was the side and not the screen.

Don't wait buy it now!!!!

DH has the red leather Roo case for his Acer Iconia. It's a really pretty red and not overly bright...not distracting at all.

I am a huge otterbox fan. I just got the otterbox reflex for my iPad and I have otterboxes on my iPhone and touch.

I would look at those.
