I got a kindle for christmas last night and while looking at the free books from amazon, quite a few of them were adult books. Is there a way I can block these kind of books, magazines, etc. from showing up.

Nope. There is no way to censor or use parental controls at this time.

One of the biggest issues I have with my Kindle.

agree, what ever is in the cloud is viewable to all on your account with the fire. Hate that!!

Is it common to share an Amazon account with other people? I never have. I have an account, my husband has an account, our teenager has an account. How do you handle wishlists and shopping for each other?

I share a Kindle account with 2 friends. We have overlapping interests and individual interests. I hate seeing their choices in my cloud

I had considered getting one for my Mom or my niece but I really don't think either of them need to see some of the 'edgy' choices occassionally selected :rolleyes1

I never used the wishlist feature and they have their own accounts for shoppingl Just use my account for books (I read the most in the group)

Well, you could get one for your mom or your neice and let them have their own account. I guess that's what confuses me about this - if having a shared account is troublesome, what's the benefit? being able to share books?

It's just not something I ever do, so I was curious as to why people do it.

My family of 4 shares one account - me, DH, DS-13, DD-10. We just keep the kids' Kindles disconnected (unregistered) and disconnected from our wireless and then they cannot access anything in our archive - or really nothing that has been specifically downloaded to their Kindles. That way, no one is tempted to download and read anything that we might not want them to. My daughter is actually more trustworthy than my son - when given free rein, he tends to not make the best choices.

But we share books. In fact, 3 out of 4 of us are reading the 2nd book of the Hunger Games (and I would be too if I wasn't reading a library book that has to be returned soon). My DH and I read a number of the same books, and I would never want to buy them twice. Or mess with the whole loaning books to each other thing - too much hassle, IMO.

Both dd10 and I are reading The Hunger Games, too. I'm putting my kids' new kindles on my account - I'm pretty liberal when it comes to books anyway.

We are a Nook family, but the same idea applies. We have our two Nooks (and DH's Droid with the Nook app) all linked to my B&N account so that we can share our books. Sure, we could use Lend Me to share books, but not all books are lendable, and those that are can be lent once only, and only for two weeks. With three of us and how slowly DH tends to read, it would never work.

And I don't have any issue with DD seeing my books, I don't have any adult type books in my library. If she wants to read the suspense thrillers and Stephen King, I don't have a problem with that.

It seems to me that the OP is asking abuot a different issue than anyone has responded to. She mentioned looking at Amazon for free books and seeing adult titles, which is entirely different from sharing the purchased materials on your individual account with someone else who may also be registered to your account.

OP, there is no way to censor those titles but there are plenty of ways to search for free books that don't include them. I would start over at the Amazon discussion boards or at kindleboards, both excellent discussion forums for Kindle books. Post your question there or better yet use the search bar and find some threads about the subject. There are several web sites with free books listed - pixel of ink is one that I recall off the top of my head.

It sounds like you want to block Amazon from showing YOU books/magazines that have adult content - not that you want to block a shared account with others?

The only thing I have ever seen is a "fix my recommendations" but that won't stop "adult" material from showing up in the free books list.

Here is a thread on Amazon about the topic. Basically, it says there is no blocking

There is no way to block these books from showing up on amazon or your Kindle but you can always use dailycheapreads.com to look for free books.

The author(s) put up the cheap and free books offered by Amazon but they do not include the racier titles.
