Kindle- budget friendly book options

I would really like to get a Kindle, but I'm afraid I will end up spending tons of money on books. Right now I borrow books from our public library. I read between 2-5 books a week.

Our public library does have ebooks to lend, but at any given time they are all out, with a waiting list. Some have 9 people on the waiting list. This would mean it would be 18 weeks before I got the book. Sort of defeats the purpose of having an ereader.

What are some free or very budget friendly options for reading books on a Kindle?

Go ahead and get on the waiting list, it might surprise you, the last time I was 9 deep on the waiting list and got the email my book was available in 2 days. Also, if you are on facebook look up "pixel of ink" and like their page, everyday they post free of cheap books. I have read things I would not normally read and really enjoyed them.

I've had my Kindle for about a year and have never paid for a book! I always have about 50 books sitting there waiting for me to read. If you're not too picky about what you read you can easily find free books all the time.

Totally agree, get the kindle. If you love to read you will love the kindle and you never have to pay for a book if you don't want to. There are a few different places to get free books, right on the amazon website they list them daily. You can get an email sent to you everyday with a list of freebies also. Check out the kindle discussion on amazon and there are posts on where to go and what to do.

I have never started at #9 on a waiting list. I started at 120 for Unbroken (at 44 now) and 140ish for The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (at 74 now). The library has 44 and 35 copies respectively so the wait shouldn't be that long. If you are interested in a book put it on the waiting list and read a freebie from Amazon in the mean time. I my kindles. I read a whole lot more now. I have over 200 books in my kindle of which 90%+ were free.

I agree that the waiting list always go faster then I think they will. It's the same as the waiting lists for hard copy books. If you sign up for amazon prime you can get 1 free book a month. Also, there are many (thousand?) of free books on Amazon that I don't think you have to be a Prime member to get. A lot of the free books are classics or the 1st book in a series.

I love my kindle, it has changed the way I read, but there are so many books available for free, if you just look.

I just bought my Kindle last night - Office Max is having their bag sale where everything you can fit in the bag they put in the Sunday paper is 20% off. That made the cheapest Kindle $63. I've already got about 15 books - free ones I found on Pixels of Ink and one I checked out of the library.

And remember that having the Kindle doesn't mean you can't still read a "real" book! If there's one you really want that isn't available or the wait list is too long, you could still go to the library and check out a copy. But I am looking forward to not having to go - especially when the weather is icky. And it will be really nice on vacations, when I sometimes read 7-10 books in one week.

I have had my Kindle for 10 months now and I haven't paid for a single book. I love to read and will read just about any genre. There are always free books available.

I hardly ever buy books for my Kindle- there are so many free ones, and they change daily! I've had my kindle for over a year, and I've only bought 5 books on it.

Check out the Kindle Daily Deal on Amazon-always $.99 or $1.99 and frequently goood stuff. Amazon also has 100 under $3.99 every month-I can always find one or two I want. Finally, many books can be lent, so find a friend with a kindle and share.

is your libary interlinked with the other area libarys? I can check out e books from any libary in our system (40 libaries). Amazon.com offers free books alot, hip2save.com has free books listed alot too.
