I am excited that my Kindle has arrived, but I can't figure out how to make the screen a bit brighter. Is it possible with the Kindle?

The e-ink screen is made to simulate the paper experience.

The e-ink screen is opaque (which is why it cant be backlit) and does not have a brightness setting.

Just to add to Kevin's post, that is intentional. It's the backlight of a computer monitor for instance that leads to eye strain. That is why the Kindle is designed the way it is. It is no different eye-wise than reading an actual book.

You can adjust the font size and that might help.

You also might benefit from one of those clip on book lights.

Thanks. The "paper" color seems very gray. Is it supposed to be like that?
