ETA: If a parent feels a child is socially immature, our school recommends holding back a year with placement in a PK (+4) program for additional socialization. My DS was extremely shy and, with a conference w/his 4 yo program teachers, I decided on placement in a 4+ program so he could get the additional socialization w/o the heavy academics. DS has a mid-October bday. I am so thankful that I did b/c he totally opened up. When he went to Kdg. he was almost 6 yo. I could def. see a difference bet. him and some of the other boys in the class. Even now that DS is in 5th grade, he is more mature than most of the boys in his class and tends to make better decisions.
