Kindergarten Graduation?

We were invited to one last year. We gave the child $5 - even found a kindergarten graduation card at Target if you can believe it. We went back to their house afterwards for ice cream. He was so proud!

FWIW, I am 39 and had a K graduation ceremony, too.

I am responsible for that card. haha I used to work for the company that makes the greeting cards at Target and graduation was one of my responsibilities.

I understand and I do get it. I work, my dh works and my kids both attend priviate HS and grammer school.
I am one of only a few handful of moms that work in my ds's class let alone the school. Some things I just know I have to miss. Sucks, yes but it is what it is. I do know when graduations are and have them in my calendar, they cannot be missed, regardless of the grade. But, Holiday Fair, plant sales, during the day, I just don't go and my child has known this. When they were younger, a grandparent would go if we couldn't but I know what I can/should and shouldn't miss.

I do pick and choose what I attend and try to work it so that at least one parent or grandparent is at each thing. And I either know or talk to moms with older kids or the teachers to get a feel for what's MOST important. But it does seem like there are a LOT of programs.

Mrs. Tex, Tex Jr., and I didn't have kindergarten, fifth grade, or jr. high graduation ceremonies. They all sound kind of silly to me.

But as long as they don't involve proms, limousines, rented tuxes/expensive wear-it-once dresses and drinking, then I can't find too much fault in them. Whatever cocks your pistol.

So far, not rented tuxes for my 6YO, but he's been known to go on a drink-box bender!

Ohhh, I love it! Hopefully you will, too! All three of mine had K graduations, in the evening, though, so parents, family and friends could attend. Summer dresses for girls, khakis and polos for boys, just Sunday dress attire really, and they would sing songs, watch a slide show of the year's events and receive their little diploma. Oh, it's so cute! It's their first year of "real" school and a milestone event that they did it!! They are officially big boys/girls and don't need mommy to hold their hand.

Enjoy the moment, for sure. They are excited about the event. We gave a graduation card with $5.00 and a graduation stuffed animal.

There are SO many in K. But it starts to get better and the school year is almost over (I live in NY so we have until next month).
I do not miss the K years. My ds is graduating 8th grade and my dd is graduating HS and I LOVE the age of my son 13 will be 14 this month.
He is a sweet little boy, just like my dd USE to be LOL

DD#2, now in her late 30's, had a kindergarten graduation ceremony - it was a private Christian school if that makes a difference.

We learned in March of the school year that we were being assigned to Spain over the summer, so DD's teacher incorporated a segment on Spain into her lesson plan for the semester. At graduation the little ones proudly announced that they could count from one to ten in Spanish, which they proceeded to do - loudly. Then they announced that they could even do it backwards! In unison, they turned their backs to the audience and chanted "uno, dos, tres..."

They were so cute and the audience absolutely loved it. We then went home to ice cream and cake. Even after all these years, DD remembers that graduation over the ones for high school and college.

We had kindergarten graduations, as well as 8th grade. It was a big step for some people. All we did was get dressed up and walk to the stage. No caps and gowns, but the students that excelled got announced and received awards and such. It was great.

Now DD is talking about the ceremony, which I will have to take off of work for, and I just got an email from the teacher asking us all to write a letter to our children that she will put into a keepsake book. What do I say? "Congratulations, you're nowhere near the end of your educational journey and guess what? Now the REAL work begins!"?

Ok, I don't really understand that logic at all. At a high school graduation would you even suggest to say "Congratulations, this really was the easy part! Now you get to go pay for your own education and hope that it all works out!" At a college graduation would you think to put "Congrats grad! Now get your butt in the real world, where you find out your $xx,xxx diploma may not help you at all in our current economy. Have fun!"

It's a milestone, treat it as such. Your DD is surely proud of her accomplishment, just tell her you are too. I'm sure she'll appreciate it

I had a K graduation in 1982, this is nothing new! My 6 yr old graduated from K last year. First they started off with a slide show, so cute! It was great seeing all kind of pics from what they did all year. Then they sang 4 songs. Each got their name called out and a diploma.. they made their graduation hats and tassels... I did the same thing when I grad (same school) it was really cute. We went out to pizza hut afterwards.
