Hi, I'm a little sad we aren't going to Disney for our vacation in May. In my adult life I've never taken a week long vacation that didn't include at least one day of the pixie dust. We decided to save some money and go to Panama City Beach this year. I know I shouldn't be feeling sorry for myself and we are lucky to get to take a vacation at all. We are staying in a condo so we can prepare some meals at "home" and enjoy the ocean views from a private balcony. I realize nobody is gonna feel sorry for me but can you feel my pain at missing out on Disney to save a buck?

I feel your pain! That being said, have a wonderful time at the beach. You can plan for your next disney vacation.

I understand how you feel. We usually go in April , but due to money issues we are not. I have been cutting back and tucking away so that mayeb we can go in Sept. but we still don't know for sure yet. As you said, at least you get a vacation. There is always next year:wizard:

I feel your pain! We were suppose to go in October, but we arent because I cant for the life of me get my almost 4 yr old son potty trained, and buying 2 packs of diapers..well 1 pull ups and 1 package of diapers for my daughter is really starting to drain me financially. Plus I would rather have him potty trained for our trip. So I decided to put the trip off until next year. Instead we are taking a short inexpensive trip over spring break to Gatlinburg. After this trip I am working my butt off to get him potty trained and to start saving and planning for our next D.W trip!

how much you enjoy a non-Dis vacation.

Go and have fun. Research it like you would a DIS trip to find all the cool spots and free things to do, etc.

We did a 2 week 1 week disney then off to a beach Anna Maria Island last summer.....it was a blast! I would go back to Anna Maria Island in a heart beat and not think twice about missing out on WDW. So relaxing!!

I completely understand........we normally go to WDW for Thanksgiving week but due to money issues have not been able to go the past two years.....it is such a depressing feeling............Try to enjoy your beach trip:grouphug:

:grouphug: I love the beach, but I understand. I would rather be at Disney.

I get it! And, it's not like you can talk about it in your daily life, because, like you said, others won't get it because, after all, you ARE still taking a vacation!!

We're in the same boat. We decided to save for our Grand European Adventure for Aug/Sept 2011. But, in order to be able to afford such a nice trip, we're skipping our annual Disney vacation or cruise. Plus, we won't go next year. It feels so weird not to be planning for Disney. I know it'll be worth it in the end, but I'm just a little sad!!

TNT Walter - I'm renting a house on Anna Maria Island this summer with my old college roommates. I'm SO glad to hear it's so nice!!!!

I feel for you! We, too, are missing our Disney trip this year. It will be the first time in 5 years that we haven't gone. We are, however, taking a trip with Adventures by Disney, so I hope that we still experience the Disney magic. However, there is nothing like being 'home.' :cloud9:

Maybe you could do a day trip? Or maybe not because admission is so dang expensive. I hope you enjoy your beach vacation and wish you fantastic weather!

:)

I am thinking the beach will be nice in May. I started researching places to visit and a possible side trip New Orleans so I am feeling better about our May trip; in the mean time we are thinking deluxe stay for November 2011.

PCB is very nice in May. It's not too hot and usually really great weather. Be sure to look into some local attractions: Gulf World Marine Park, Shipwreck Island, Zoo World, our favorite mini-golf attraction is Coconut Creek and they have a huge person-sized Maze. Lots of fun! Pier Park has great shopping and dining and atmosphere and a few kiddie rides like a ferris wheel, merry-go-round, etc.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

Panama City Beach is so pretty. Wait til you see the sunsets! Absolutely beautiful! It's something that Disney doesn't have nor do they have the sound from the waves of the beautiful emerald green water ;)
Those alone are worth the trip.
I do feel your pain at not going to Disney though. We have other things we will be doing this summer, but I'm ok with it. I'm just sad because I don't know when we'll be able to go back.

We had planned to go this year for Christmas but my DH will be gone for four months starting next week and we will spend our vacation time with him in Baltimore. My DD also just made cheerleader and is going to Panama City for cheer camp so I will take the other kids down too. That's another expense we didn't see coming.

Even with that, it's still a little sad, but Disney will always be there and nothing new has been added since we went anyway. I think every other year makes us appreciate it even more. princess:
