I dieted during the summer......July through early Sept to be exact. I watched what I ate however I didn't exercise much. I didn't lose a single pound......:headache: It was actually quite discouraging and I have since added on about 3 lbs......i'm 4' 11" [short I know] I have gained this weight AFTER trying on my wedding gown and am now worried that I won't fit into my dress.

I have a couple of months before my first fitting and would like to lose at least enough to get back to where I was when I first tried on the gown. How long did it take all of you before you began dropping the pounds? I know some people take longer to start dropping but once they do it goes more smoothly......maybe you can offer some advice, suggestions etc?

My weight has fluctuated my whole life, and it's been the biggest pain in the :headache:. Right now, I'm 5'11 and weigh a little more than I'd like. I started my diet in the middle of November, and all I've been doing is watching what I eat (but not completely restricting myself... I like good food and my DF knows how to cook it :rotfl:) and working out 4-5 times a week. I usually go the gym everyday whether I feel like it or not. If there is no way to fit the gym into my day, I do pilates and tae bo at home. I want to drop 50lb before my wedding... I have a year to do it so hopefully it all works out! :thumbsup2

Good luck! You have great motivation so I'm sure you'll succeed! :bride:

Just a suggestion, how about starting to add small exercises into your routine in addition to your better diet?

Like 20 min walk everyday for a week ?
It's not too hard to do but it'll get you moving...
Then move up to 20min walk per day plus weight training or aerobic activity (running, spinning, etc.) 3 times a week.

And before you start your activity measure yourself (inches wise) and then about a couple weeks into it measure yourself again.
You'd be surprised how much inches you might lose without losing a lot of weight.
I'm sure you know that muscle weighs more than fat... so if you gain muscle your weight might stay the same but your body will look much leaner and more toned than before.

So try to go with inches instead of pounds... and don't measure so often... ;)
I used to get so discouraged when I measure too often and not see the # budge.

Good luck!!!!

I feel the pain!
I am adamently against scales, because the number is not as important as how you feel and look in your clothes. I gauge all my lost lbs and gained lbs on how my clothes fit. That being said, I wish to loose enough that my current pants will not stay up without suspenders! :rotfl:

Now that I'm less than a year out, I know I have to get moving on the "real" weight loss. So far, I feel I have been pretending, aka lying to myself.

One great tip that I pulled from here is to walk... alot. This will be beneficial for both the weight loss and surviving walking around the DW parks all day long. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Drink lots of water... this will help with the excersizing, from, you know, walking back and forth to the bathroom. :lmao:

Also, never skip a meal! If it is between skipping breakfast and eating a donut, eat the donut, skipping the meal is more harmful to your body than the donut.

i worked out for 8 months & watched what i ate & lost 5lbs...but DH cut out pop & beer for 1 month & didnt exercise & lost 8lbs!!!!!!!
men stink...lol

but I did feel REALLY good & i did feel a change.......so........my advice!!!

DONT give up.....stick with it
Dont think of it as a diet...think of it as a lifestyle change for a better life
DONT push it....its not worth an injury

DO....find something you love
DO.....read, learn, research on health & fitness
DO....get a workout buddy
DO...this for yourself!!!!!

hang in there!!!:goodvibes

I feel your pain...I have been up and down with my weight also. I am running the disney marathon next week and we thought we would lose weight when training...yes I felt really great and can run long distance but If you don't do both (diet and exercise) it does nothing. So I have started clensing my body and working out more. I will not go shopping for my dress until I lose weight.

Good luck to you and 3lbs is nothing, You can do it and remember even if you walk for 30mins a couple of days a week you will feel better and you will lose that. :)

good luck on the marathon!

isn't it amazing that once you get older, the weight just sticks? when i was younger and auditioning for various ballet things, i would ALWAYS eat a cinnabon, one of the really big huge ones, to give me a sugar rush. i had a horrible horrible diet, but was 5'9 and barely 100 lbs. i NEVER gained weight back then, i swear, i turned 24 and it was like something just clicked in my body and it ALL began to stick. my df can eat garbage for three weeks, not work out at all, gain a ton of weight, continue eating garbage, work out for the next week and it's all gone. men stink...

As a fellow 4' 11" bride I can totally sympathize. I've been working out and watching my food for 2 months and my weight has basically stayed within the same five pounds.

But I've started enjoying my workouts. And even if it's only 2 miles I'm walking 3 times a week it's more then I used to do. When I take a few days off (like over the holidays) I'm actually starting to miss it. I keep telling DF it's our training for the parks :rotfl:sounds like that's a familiar sentiment.

Also I've noticed that weeks when I eat 3 (or sometimes fewer) meals a day weight seems to go on instead of off. But if I eat like 4 or 5 small meals the weight comes off.

I know it's hard to keep up with but I just keep telling myself I want my wedding day to be my healthiest day ever as a gift to DF and me. But I know like many people I feel like I could sure use some pixiedust: to help.

Oh I feel for you!

I lost 42lbs following a low-carb diet. I know it's not for everyone but it really works for me. I've put on about 12lbs of the weight from when we went to Florida in September last year, followed by Halloween, followed by Christmas - you get the picture here?!

I've started low-carbing again this week and have lost 3lbs. I've also made the decision to do some walking. I work mainly from home so my lunch hour is now going to be spent walking round the local park.

We have set our wedding date as 8th December 2009 (woo-hoo!) so I need to shift those punds!

Good luck to you, I think exercise would be the best way :goodvibes

:rotfl: This reminds me of that commercial with the cartoon figures and it's the woman talking about all the things she does and can't lose weight and then she talks about her husband not drinking pop (soda for you other folks, lol) and he's loses a ton of weight. It's for some weight loss drug for women. It's just a really funny commercial.

Okay, so I've posted up some on my PJ about my weight loss struggle. I've always been tall and thing with the appetite of a lumberjack :scared1: Imagine my surprise when I came home from my cp at Disney and promptly gained 20 lbs  The worst was when we went to Disney in May and got engaged. I look back at the pictures and I'm just shocked at how I look. I don't have a warped sense of my body image, but the visual was just the final confirmation that I was unhealthy. Tired, sick and achy ALL THE TIME. So, I read the You: On A Diet book. And it is totally a lifestyle change. I started walking. I threw out a ton of bad foods. I thought DF would freak, but he has been just as eager to lose weight. I eat 4-6 times a day. I still enjoy a couple of dark chocolate squares every other day; I don't starve ever. I've lost 15 lbs. I've been so much healthier. I sleep better. I haven't hardly gotten sick this winter!

I really recommend the book. It's a super easy read and very entertaining. And even if you don't like the recepies it gives you, there are some great guidelines for how to make smart food choices. I was even able to find about 7 things that are "okay" to eat at Taco Bell. Not that I go there all the time, but if you have a craving it's better to be smart about it.

The big rules for shopping and eating out: NO TRANS FAT. No matter what. No more than 4g saturated fat per serving. Poly and mono unsaturated fats can be higher b/c they are "good for you" fats, but you still don't want to go over board. Just because there better doesn't mean you should go crazy with it. (This is DF's problem, he latches on to things. MODERATION is key.) Also, no more than 4g of sugar per serving. The exception is fruit b/c of the all the benefits it has. Make sure you keep the skin on the apples and pears and what not! There's good for you nutrients in there! And nothing with high fructose corn syrup. That stuff is trying to kill you! In the morning try to get some fiber and protien. The more fiber you eat in the AM, the less hungry you'll be 8 hours later (oh say around 3pm when you want to eat sweet or salty, read: chips or candy bar.) Another big tip: Automate. Eat the same thing every day for breakfast and lunch. It takes the guess work out. Once you've constructed a healthful meal, it makes it so much easier and it's proven that when you automate, you lose more weight.

Okay, I'm crazy, I know that!! :upsidedow But if you don't want to buy the book you can check out the website. <----click here, lol.
