Okay, so I bought a new camera, read the book (twice  ) and have been experimenting with it like crazy in preparation for our trip ::yes:: Have been getting some decent shots, a few REALLY great ones, and some REALLY bad ones. Took it to a football game tonight and played around with it. Why do my action shots come out so bad? Tried different settings, IS on and off, just not getting the results I am hoping for. Someone PLEASE help!!!

I have the S1 IS which is the predecessor of yours, but the functions should still be the same.

If you're trying to do action shots, you should be using speeds of 400 or more. You can do this 2 ways. One, turn the dial to Tv, then press the right arrow button till you get a 400, 800, 1000, or more setting. Now, if you're doing high speeds, it's going to let less light in the camera, so be sure to have adequate lighting.

Another way is to just set it on the action speed dial. This lets the camera do the controlling of speed, aperatures, etc...

Also, use the burst mode. You'll get repetitive shots quickly. Afterwards, you can pick and choose the pic that comes out the best.

I'm just an amateur, but you can pick up good advice from the Canon photography forum: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/

and also here: http://www.megapixel.net/html/articles.php
