a little off subject but I trust my FW peeps more than anyone else

we're looking at renting a vacation club from someone for a week in the fall. Has anyone else done this?
How did it work out?

Thanks much

1) Like anything else, it is a matter of trust.
2) IN MOST CASES, it is a smooth/satisfying transaction.

3) Some folks recommend a contract.
4) But, they are pretty much unenforceable.
5) Just rent from someone with HUNDREDS of posts.
6) Anything less could spell trouble.

We are currently DVC members as well as avid FW fans... That being said, we have never rented out our points nor have we ever rented points from anyone. I have heard that lots of folks have done it successfully and have enjoyed the accomodations that DVC has to offer.

As other posters have said, there is a large element of trust on both parties. You have to be sure that the person renting you their points actually have them available to rent, and the renter has to be sure that the person renting the points doesn't go to the resort and trash the place... Ultimately the person who owns the points is responsible for what the renter does while they are in the rental unit.

If you haven't already, take a look at this. I have never done any business with them, nor do I have any sort of interest in his business, but I have read from other folks on the DIS boards that their experience has been positive. He is also a sponsor for these boards.

Worth taking a look at anyway...

Duane

We have rented points we couldn't use since 2004, never had a problem on either side.

We have rented multiple times with no problems. We have also made some great friends doing it. Like it has been said it takes both parties working together I wish you well.

I own DVC now, but started my addiction by renting. (I'd love to camp Ft W again, but just can't drive that far)

I rented twice: Once the owning family was having difficulties paying their dues and the owner rented her points to me in exchange for paying them off for her. It was an odd transaction where I had to talk with member services (cc info for the dues) and I was afraid the owner might not follow though on my reservation. The woman was nice and honest from the start, she gave me her work location and phone to verify who she was. It all turned out to be a fantastic treat as I was used to staying in the Moderates (POR) and the DVC rooms all have the blessing of a balcony and kitchenette/kitchen. We stayed at OKW/BWV and Loved it! No problems checking in.

Second time around I rented from another person on the DIS, stayed at AKV/VWL. Again, no issues, LOVED it! Turned out to be the 1st week AKV Jambo villas was open - didn't know how lucky we were to grab a unit.

I've never had a chance to rent our points... I seem to always have just enough to survive on. There are a lot of good owners out there who just need to rent out their points before they expire. But like with anything in life, there will be one bad one in a bunch of thousands giving the rest a bad reputation.

As I tell my kids: trust your instinct. You'll know if someone's giving off a bad vibe. Good luck! Where do you want to stay?

We are also DVC members and love it, we are campers also so it gets to be a hard choice on trips condo or take the 5th wheel. Anyway where are you looking to stay & how many points are you looking to rent? we have left over points from last year and all 300 points from this year and not sure if we will get to use them.
