We have not been to DW since 2009. After reading about the long fastpass lines and the memory makers mess ups..I don't know if I want to go back! I have good memories! If it isn't the magical place that it was ....

I just don't know. Does anyone else feel this way? I did not like the idea of the magic bands to begin with. I liked my plastic card! Plus, I am not one to plan my fastpasses. Vacations are suppose to be calm and relaxing. They can't be that if you have to plan what rides you want to ride on which days! My son is planning his honeymoon and this will be his brides first time. I don't want her to be disappointed after we have been building it up

I have even heard rumors of rude CMs!!
PLEASE ...someone restore my faith in Disneyworld
Well... all I can do is tell you about my last trip in December, and my plans for my next one in April!
I've always planned our parks for the day, so being able to pre-select three FPs for each day was no big deal. I used easyWDW.com's crowd calendars to decide which parks I wanted to visit each day.
Each morning, we visited the lowest crowd park for rope drop. Then we had lunch and returned to our resort for a nap. In the afternoon, we hopped over to a busier park for whatever evening entertainment was available and to use our FP+ selections.
FP+ helped make this our BEST trip yet. I loved being able to walk right onto a coaster in the evening with no wait. I'd never ridden many of them in the dark before! So cool... I also loved being able to show up at Hollywood Studios in the evening and ride Toy Story Mania with no wait, followed directly by a ride on the Tower of Terror. Then we'd take in a show, and by the time it was late, the crowds at Star Tours and the Great Movie Ride would have vanished.
After as many trips as I've been on, I've got a pretty good grasp of when to hit up most rides for the shortest standby lines. Test Track, opt for single rider first thing in the morning. Expedition Everest, stay late and ride in the last hour the park is open. Etc...
We rode everything we wanted to ride, and more. And we loved our MagicBands! So convenient, and comfortable. We opted not to put charging privileges on ours, because we didn't want it to be TOO easy to buy stuff. We only planned 3 table service dinners, and were pleasantly surprised how many places were taking walk-ups. We did not meet a single rude CM, and most went above and beyond to be friendly to us.
Since it looks like I'll be using the same MagicBand again on this trip, I decided to decorate mine with nailpolish. I can't wait to see what the castmembers think!
For our upcoming trip, we plan to follow much the same routine. However, we did learn a few useful tricks from the last trip:
Before we head out to use any of our FP+ reservations, we pull up the screen listing them all on our laptop and take a cellphone picture. That way, if we get the "blue circle of death" at an attraction entrance, we can easily show the CM that we have a ride booked. Every time that happened last trip, they waved us right through as soon as they saw the picture. No problem!
It's even easier if you have the Disney app, but we didn't.
Animal Kingdom after 4pm is AMAZING! It's completely dead. Disney's trying hard to fix that, of course, but in the meantime it's a terrific place to visit. We could have ridden Everest around and around without a wait! We had Dinoland entirely to ourselves. There was only one other person in the car, when we rode Dinosaur. Plus, the park is gorgeous in the dark.
We've chosen to book Soarin' for all our Epcot afternoons. My husband loves Soarin', and we know that the single rider lines are usually quite short over at Test Track in the morning. So, that's how we decided to divide things up. We don't need to ride together (though, as often as not, we did anyway).
I think your son and his bride will have a wonderful time. If you can afford it, you should get them parkhoppers and a room at the Yacht or Beach club. They'll be able to stroll over to Epcot for dinner every night! And they'll be an easy walk or boat ride away from Hollywood Studios, too.
