Kim's new and improved life journal!

3 weeks!!!:cool1:

I am so impressed that you haven't slipped to the kids. I could never keep it a secret. It becomes an obsession with me when I am planning a trip.

I am glad to hear that your hip is feeling better. Just please be careful. Listen to your body.

Okay, I'm done being a mom.

Take care,
Beth

Kim, glad to hear you are starting to feel better!! Go for that walk --- but resist the urge to run!! LOL Cuz you know you will feel it!! Take it slow and don't rush to run if it bothers you..

So, i am sorry if i missed this somewhere.. but how are you gonna spill it to your kids that you are going to WDW?

Hey guys. Thanks so much to ALL of you for checking in on me. I've been pretty "down" lately. On one hand, my hip constantly aches (not shooting pain anymore) and it's frustrating. On the other hand, my mind tells me I should just run. I should just get out there and run through it. Chances are it's not anything "broken" that I could do further damage. So the guilt is bother me big time that I'm not running or getting any miles in. And on top of that stuff, we're in a little heat wave. Highs in the low 80's.

But to answer Amy's questions....

Is your pain on the outside just below the hip bones or right on the bone? Toward the top of your outer thighs? Is it tender to the touch? Hurts when you stretch or roll over in bed? Does it feel stiff when getting up from sitting?

YES to all of the above. The pain is on the side, low on the hip bone, and sometimes on the front of my hip and radiates inwards :headache: But also it's a dull ache that sometimes makes my leg feel "asleep" and always makes my leg feel heavy. Like, I have to mentally tell myself to not drag that foot, I have to "remember" to pick it up. Honestly, that's the part that scares me. I can tolerate aches and pains. But something like that - what does that mean?

I got the preliminary results from my xray that say everything looked fine. My dr. stressed that it's not the final results, so I guess that could change. :confused3 But I doubt it. I don't think there's anything skeletal wrong. I see the ortho next Friday (26th), so I look forward to talking to him.

I'm still working out the details for the "reveal" to the kids, but it'll be in the school parking lot (both kids go to the same school). I hope to be able to get the kids to the car, DH will pull out the video camera and I'll grab the digital camera and somehow grab the tshirts that say something like "surprise, mommy & daddy are taking us to WDW today!" That should get the point across, right? I do feel a little bad for DS. He's a peanut and is under the impression that when we go back to WDW in 2008, he'll be almost 7 and should hit the 44" mark & will be able to ride EE and Space Mountain. This trip will be another one where he has to sit on the sidelines for those rides...but I think he'll be ok with it. :goodvibes

Ree Ree - SO glad to have ya back! :yay:

Barb - sorry to hear of your past hip problems too. I'm glad your doctors (never heard of a pedorthist) were able to help you out. If you ever have the chance to see Maroon 5 live - do it!! :cool1:

To all my other friends - THANK YOU! You're getting me through this.

Kim - that is an evil voice telling you to run on your gimpy leg. Don't do it!! Even if the bones are fine, you don't need to create further inflamation, irritation, or stress on those so called "soft tissues." I actually don't like to call them that - I think of them as power fibers.

I am NO expert, but it sounds to me like there could also be some trigger points involved, but the numbness makes me wonder about nerves as well. I have a whole book on the trigger points, but basically, they are little knots in a muscle that can send pains to outlying areas. The tricky part is that they can send pains to seemingly unrelated parts. you can have a point in your shoulder that radiates to your elbow, or your back that goes down your leg.

Do NOT feel guilty about not running. Not running now is the best thing you can do to protect your chances of running for years to come. That's what I think, anyway. Try not to let it get you down too much. You are an amazing lady and you have accomplished so much. Your friendship and support means SO much to so many on these boards. Hang in there!

Kim...

Hmmm....I wouldn't chance running until you see the ortho. I have had, and occasionally still do have, that "heavy" feeling in one or both legs. My left has always been worse, but the hip pain is on both sides. I'm pretty much sore after each and every run HOWEVER....I don't ache at night anymore. That is huge! I think it's b/c I stretch all the time....even when i'm just sitting around I still stretch. Plus I'm doing Pilates nearly 10 times/week at this point due to teaching and taking classes. I always found that the longer I sat the worse the pain. With all that said...I ended up just completely unable to run or at times walk last year, so just talk to the ortho and get a diagnosis. I just hope they can give you one. I've been diagnosed with all sorts of things but I'm not sure any of them are correct. It's an odd thing but I've heard of many other people complain of similar pain with running. Nearly always women. :confused3

I'm very curious to hear how your appointment goes. I feel for ya girl! I can say though that doing some type of exercise (non impact) might help you to feel better if the area is tight. I find moving is always better than sitting with the hip pain!

Good luck! I'm thinking about you. Just don't get too frustrated...less than a year ago i was struggling with the pain and now I'm knocking out the LRs with VERY minimal discomfort! There's hope! Oh...and the radiating pain definitely seems like nerve issue. If the muscles in that area are in spasm they could be involving a nerve there. I used to get shooting pain down my leg into the groin area all the way to the knee and sometimes to the foot :(. Don't mess with nerve pain IMO. You will get better! Don't stress...and don't feel guilty! Just get yourself better!

:flower3: Kim... So sorry you are feeling down! I completely understand! I concur w/ the others!!! Don't run until you know what's going on. I too think it may be nerve stuf...yuk! When Susan had her really bad shooting pains in her back, it was nerves. Please be careful!

The top priority, #1, main goal it to get you feeling better. It will get better! Chin up chick! You'll be back to running again soon!

I'd love to pics of the end products from amymickey. I bet they are so cute! Post some pics of your suprised kids! How fun!!!

Hope you're feeling better soon! We're here for you!

Hi Kim! Sorry I haven't checked in. This subbing thing is going to kill me one of these days. I'm glad you and Jen had fun at the concert (last week! Told you I was behind!). I was never really a fan until Jen dragged me to the DTD Virgin Records store to buy their CD. They aren't country but I guess they aren't that bad.

Less than three weeks now til your trip! Take care of that hip. You have lots of walking coming up. Keep us informed and take care of you!

 Hey girl!!!
If you do run, and hurt yourself more than you already are, then you risk not being able to enjoy yourself in a few weeks and the most wonderful place on earth!!! SO, with that said....is it worth the risk?? :sad2:

Take care of yourself....I don't have the money to fly to Jersy to kick your butt, but I will hitch-hike if I have to!!

Relax!!

HI Kim
hope your having a good weekend.
Hows the hip doing, at least it sounds like its getting better! Keep thinking about that WDW trip to cheer yourself up ;)

Hi Kim,

I hope you are feeling a bit sunnier today. If not,:sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

I have to agree with everyone else, you need to rest your hip. It is less than a week until your doctor's appointment. You have nothing to feel guilty about. In fact, you are taking care of you body by not running.

Beth

Thanks everyone. I know you're right. I won't run until after I see the ortho & hear what he has to say. :thumbsup2 My hip was feeling better while I was on the anti-inflammitories, but I stopped them about 2 days ago because they were making me extremely nauseas. After about a day off of them - the nausea has gone away. Today's hurting pretty bad because DH and I are painting DS's room, so lots of up & down and standing. I can't wait to show you all when his room is done. Hopefully by next weekend (needs a minor wall repair from a stubborn wall sticker...home repair guy is coming one night this week).

DD had her homecoming game today. Gotta tell ya, it scared me how excited she was to walk across the field with a football player. She's the biggest 8 year old flirt around. I'll upload some pics tomorrow to show you all. (or as Marie would say....ya'll :goodvibes )

Nite all!

 Kim,

I'm glad that you are resting your hip until after your ortho appointment. You don't want to risk further injury, especially since "the secret" will be revealed soon. ;)

Hope you have a great Sunday!

Hi Kim
cant wait to see pics of DD :)
Keep resting that hip - i'm sure you'll be running soon!
