Kim's new and improved life journal!

Kim, what a fantastic run! You are a super star!

Ah, grocery shopping. I eat SO much better if there's good stuff in the house, and yet, I find grocery shopping and menu planning such a PITA! Which reminds me, I've go to get on that for next week :)

Have a great weekend!

Hey all!! Thanks Bekki and Amber for stopping by! Yeah, the running has been going well. I can't wait to get out there tomorrow and see how it goes.

Today was awesome. We participated in the American Heart Association's Heart Walk (our 5th year) and every year the kids get more & more out of it. I had a heart-to-heart (catch that pun? ;) ) with DD8 today to explain a little more in depth about heart issues and why we do the walk. It was SO sweet when she greeted my mom with "Mom Mom, Mommy told me that Pop (my dad) was born with a not healthy heart". UGH, that girl knows how to get me going. :sad1: Yup, that's why we walk, for my dad and for all of those other families that have had to deal with heart issues. And it's also yet another reason why I run. Maybe it helps me mentally think that my dad's heart disease won't happen to me if I take better care of myself (even though that's not possible, since he has a hereditary heart disease). But anyway, being healthier can only help, not hurt, right? :confused3

Anywho.....we walked a little over 3 miles and then had a great time with the kids on the boardwalk rides. The rain came down about 1/2 hour too soon, but then we took the kids to see Shrek the Third. Really good movie, although I think DH And I caught more of the jokes than the kids did. :rotfl:

What a GREAT thing Kim :goodvibes .... the heart walk is a wonderful event. So nice that you participate as a family!!! My next run is the "Healthy Heart" 5k :).

Sounds like you had a great weekend!!! Good luck with your run today! I'll be heading out there soon to get my 5 miles in :). FINALLY some sun up here...it rained all day yesterday lol!

Have a great day!

Hi Kim

Awesome job there with the family and the Heart walk. I actually remember reading about that last year in this same journal :goodvibes It's nice to see that you get to show the kids the importance of doing good things for good causes and so cool to see your family participating, even if it was just for the rides LOL (hey, rides are cool...gotta say I'd be looking forward to that also!)

Have a great day!

Hey guys!! Here I am....head hanging low. :sad2: sniff sniff. I didn't run today. I woke up with a back ache and some very stiff legs. Even though we probably only walked 3 miles during the heart walk, we probably walked another 4-5 miles total during the day on the boardwalk. And on the last 1/2 of the heart walk I completely speed walked to "get it done". So, my plan this morning (after feeling the aches) was to run some errands and do some yardwork with DH and then go for a run. Well a "little" yardwork" ended up taking from 1pm - 7pm. We limed, seeded, fertilized and peet mossed the backyard, and in the middle of all of that I ran to Home Depot and purchased almost 40 edging rocks for some flower beds we're making in the back yard. So I got a GREAT arm/back workout loading the rocks into my cart, then into my car, then into the back yard. :woohoo:

I plan on running before work Mon, Wed & Fri before work and then a long walk on Sunday. :thumbsup2 I also want at least 4 bean days and throw in some arm workouts in there too. :goodvibes

Here's to a great week, guys!! :yay:

Kim, don't hang that head low! What you did was smart...don't run when you feel like that :) and remember that a good rest day will really benefit your overall fitness (even though you blew that with the rock moving!) Good job with that yardwork by the way...that certainly counts as XT, that is hard work!!

Don't over push yourself tomorrow...just be careful.

Have a great day!

P.S. How are those quizzes coming along?? :)

Hi Kim,

I agree with Scott. It's important to listen to your body and give yourself a break when you need it.

That's great that you and your family did the heart walk. :grouphug:

I hope you have a great week ahead!:goodvibes

Thanks, Scott. Yeah. My body definitely needed yesterday off from running. :headache: I did go this morning and completed 2 miles in 22.45 minutes. I honestly wasn't trying to go fast, but it ended up being that way (Kim-fast, that is  ). Felt good. I might try to increase the distance by 1/2 mile or so on Wed & see how long it takes.

And the quizzes...I only did the MK one so far and failed miserably. I have so much to learn, apparantly. (guess I better DIS a little more, huh?)

Hey Tracy....thanks for stopping by!!!

Hi Kim!

Good job with getting in a couple miles yesterday, glad to see the rest helped you a bit. Nice to see you wanting to increase the distance, just remember to increase no more than 10% each week.

Hope you have a good day

Hey, Kim-fast IS fast :) That's a great 2 miles, good for you for fitting it in :)

Have a fantastic day!

You're doing AWESOME, Kim!!! Resting is important, too, to take good care of your body. It's working really hard out there!

Hope you have a wonderful week!

Scott, is that 10% total for the week? Or per run? I don't think increasing from 2 miles to 2.5 miles is too much for my 2 or 3 weekday runs, do you? :confused3

:cool1: WOAH Kim! You had a fantastic run there the other day girl!!! SOOOOO proud of you for getting up and getting out there :goodvibes . You are a better woman than I  ....had to run today at 8 am and that was early enough for me!!!! You are really doing so well!

As far as the 10% rule goes...you shouldn't increase your overall mileage by more than 10%. If you are currently running (based on what I remember) about 8 miles per week...you could safely go up an additional 1 mile with no issues. The problem with increasing your mileage too quickly is that it can cause overuse injuries such as tendonitis, bursitis, shin splints. I don't know anybody who's done that to themselves :rolleyes1 . Trust me on this one...up that mileage slowly and stay at a specific weekly mileage for at least 2 weeks in a row. Good luck with your increases...shouldn't be a problem at all for ya' McBeaner.

Hope the rest of your week is going well! Take are and THANK YOU:hug: . The things you wrote in my journal were very sweet and I appreciate it so much.

..there is your answer :) ...

Hey all!

I woke up this morning and went for a run. I increased the mileage to 2.5 miles and finished in 28.45. Kim-fast strikes again!!:woohoo: I kind of wish my blocks were a little smaller around here so I could vary my course on the weekday mornings, but for now I have to stick to going down one side of the road & back for my 2 or 2.5 mile runs. I beaned it after my run and felt good. Until about 10am. For some reason my mood just crashed. Nothing specific happened, so I have no idea what went on...but I'm still in a funk. Hopefully I wake up tomorrow with a MUCH better attitude!

To add to my funk, DD did the most awful thing today. She's 8, and I know she's testing the limits with stretching the truth/lying. When we catch her in lies, she's grounded. Grounded means no computer, no tv no cd player or mp3. No allowance. (yes, when writing that, I see how incredibly spoiled she is :sad2: ). Anyway, I've mentioned before that I look forward to Wednesdays because I get off work early & get the kids off the bus. It's the only day per week that I get to do this and it means a lot to me. Well, I get home, get changed, grab a water & head out to sit on the porch. 3:30 rolls around and the bus pulls up. The next door neighbor gets off the bus. The kid across the street gets off the bus. The bus shuts its' doors and off it goes!!! :scared1: I yelled to the neighbor "Wasn't Em on the bus?" She said "no". So now I'm in a panic. I get the phone & call the school. They put me on hold to see if she went to the after school program by mistake. While I'm holding, call waiting goes off. It's Em. Calling from her friend's house a few blocks away. She said her bus broke down & she had to ride home with her friend. (smell something fishy? :confused3 ) I said, I'll be there in a minute. I click back over & tell the school I know where she is. THANK GOD my MIL drives by at that moment and I have her go down to the corner to intercept DS's bus, which should be arriving at 3:50. Anyway, I get DD...she lies again & says the bus broke down, I tell her I saw the neighbors get off HER bus. She was sunk. I brought her home, call the school & tell them that she shouldn't have been allowed to get on a completely different bus without written consent from me. But honestly, it's my kid's fault. The bus driver will be in trouble. DD's friend is in trouble (b/c she knew about the "plan"). What in the world can I do to get through to her? I went up in her room with a trash bag & emptied it. She was devastated. But she's been that way before.

I know this is gonna sound horrible, but I almost want to "scare" her the way I was scared so she knows how it feels. Please, for those of you with kids...please give me some ideas of punishments. She needs some fresh/new punishments to realize that we're not gonna put up with it and just keep doing the same things to punish her.

WHEW. If I wasn't in a funk before....I sure would be now. :headache:

On a happier note, I finally remembered to upload the pics of Skyelar I had at work:

Hi Kim ((HUGS))

I'm so sorry about the issues with your DD. But here's the thing...you are correct in thinking that she's lying to test the waters and really is trying to see just how much she can get away with. I have had some issues with my older DD lying too....fortunately as she's matured (now nearly 10), I find that she is more truthful and much more willing to be open with me. It's such a process...keep working at and keep talking to her directly and calmly about your concerns and how you always want her to feel free to discuss anything with you.

I am in the camp of losing priviledges, especially if you can relate them somehow to the incident. So for me that would be eliminating ANYTHING that has to do with friends, whether it be computer time, phone time, play dates, parties. I've gone as far as have my DD call her friend, who's party it was THAT DAY, and explain to both her and the child's mom that she would NOT be attending the party because of her behavior. (mean mommy I am). So not only did she miss the party but she had to apologize for not going AND admit her mistake. Trust me...she still talks about that one. Another time she threw a screaming fit at her uncle during her own birthday party, and I made her donate the gift he gave her! (i know i know...I'm so mean LOL). Anyway, my point is that it hits home harder when it relates to the problem at hand.

I hope this advice helps, although I have to say it seems that you are handling things really well. Keep at it and don't question yourself....a lot of kids go through a lying phase. She's just growing up. As long as she doesn't get away with it, it will not continue.

Good luck. AND.....GREAT JOB WITH YOUR RUN!!!!! SOOOO FAST GIRL! :thumbsup2
