In light of this weeks discussion, I thought this post regarding Kilimanjaro Safari on the Disney Parks blog was interesting...

I think this is a good move. I never liked the idea of fake animals being shown as I believe it takes away from the real animals. Also, the whole poaching story, while accurate, distracted from the real purpose of the attractions.

Now if only they could smooth out the roads...

When we were there in October, we went on the safari twice. Both times when the driver asks what animals you want to see my 5yo yelled out ZEBRAS! louder than anyone. These are some changes I can get behind.

I wonder if they are removing the story line. Although I admit it is not that great, I do like the narration. "Simba One, I see you down there!". Hehe.

Oh thank goodness! I was never a fan of the poaching story part. I had no idea, though, that the original story line was changed after guest feedback. I wonder how I would feel about seeing a dead elephant (albeit fake) at the end. Anyway, I'm all for a change in this story line for more animal viewing. :thumbsup2

The best safari experiences I have had were the ones when so many animals were out that the guide couldn't even take time to participate in the story. He kind of blew it off in order to have more time to share the animals with us.

The DJ at the radio station only spins one record though. ;)

Thanks for posting the news. I have not heard this as of yet. This link is actually not to Disney's official blog. It's still something that is not confirmed as a result. I did check the official blog and didn't see any of this posted, but could have missed it. Either way, I love AK and welcome anything they do there. :)

The post links to a blog that links to the official Disney blog, but here's a direct link. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...add-savannah-space-at-disneys-animal-kingdom/

Yup, this was on the the official blog Friday, so I think that elevates it up from rumor. Then again, how many times have the announced something and not done it? :)

I always though the storyline started to fail when they removed Big Red and the jeep chase. Although I always though the jeep chase was just something that broke down and never got fixed :)

I'd much rather they add more animals...and stop the jeeps long enough to take a picture once in a while!

Although I like the changes that are coming - love Zebras, I have to say that I rode the Safari this morning with my ds, and 5 grandchildren (ages 4-9) and they absolutely loved it. They loved everything about it, the animals, the story, the 'broken' bridge...very fun to watch them.
