I just let my 7 yr. old twins start their own characters last night. The problem is My DS keeps getting hit on! Any suggestions on how to avoid my little kids from becoming part of this Taken thing? There really should be some way of identifying if a person is a kid on VMK( although I understand why here isn't). It is scary to let little ones play the game when people keep trying to hook up with them! I won't let either of them accept friends when I'm not in the room. If anyone sees my kids (or me!) please say hi! I need friends from this board on my list! And I know that if any of you see them, you will be nice and helpful! My DS is Astromadmagic and my DD is dragonbug (pending approval)! Please help them out.

I will definitley say hi to them. And about that taken thing. I wouldn't allow them to. I mean why would you want to be taken. Thats just gross. Well hope this helps. And I am always on VMK. My name is MariaAnn.

My 8 year old plays and the same thing started happening so I put in his signature that he was just a kid and not allowed to do "taken" or "Family" and that has seemed to help alot.
He is also not allowed in guest rooms unless it is a host room. That is where I notice the taken stuff much more.

Yep. I usually dont go in to the Guest Rooms very often. Only to go to the Staff Rooms. So hope this helps!

My DS 6 plays, too. He rarely gets asked about taken. I suspect part of that is the appearance he chose for his character: boy with teal sneakers, purple shorts, maroon vmk shirt, goofy hat.

Both of my daughters have "don't do taken " in their signatures. That does help a bit. My older daughter also has Dis kid in her signature. It lets other Dis members know who she is and also that she is a kid to all. My girls have been playing since day one and they have had no real problems. They are 7 and 9.

I will tell my girls to look for your kids. If you PM me with when you think they wil be on I can have my kids meet yours...they love to help new kids out!

Thanks for suggestions! I know this is a kids game, but with all of that stuff going on, it kinda makes me nervous. I will have them add something to their signatures.

I spend an hour after dinner a couple evenings a week with my two. (a ive ears and a too ears)

And man between trade requests, bay be, taken, and "hey you gotta move, that guy is gonna report you", it all freaks me out a bit

I also play/guide with a couple of ten year olds, and it is way worse with them. Talk about inappropriate. I am not even sure they mean it half the time.

My take is this, turn the exposure into something good. Explain it to them, and why it's bad. My son is getting really good at reading now, in part due to trying to figure out what the people are trying to ask him in VMK.

Half the time I have to explain to him why he has to say no or hit cancel. And now six months later, he is doing it almost all on his own.

If the 10 year olds had this kind of parenting/exposure earlier it would have been easier to explain to them.

So if you were looking for a short answer from me or my 2 cents, it's Hands On Parenting. At least short term.

Yea, I know how this is like. I hate it when people keep bugging people if they are "taken" or not. I wish the "ask before trade" was as noticed as the don't do taken thing.... It's funny how much less people ask you if you're "taken" with that. It's just that I know several 7-8 years olds who do "taken", and I'm worried how that'll affect them as they grow up. And I have to agree with ktink94 and disneychick74 that guest rooms aren't the bets places for little children to be in. I often try to keep my little 10 year-old brother away from those rooms. I told him, and he listens for once, to not do taken and stay away from all guest rooms except for staff and sometimes trade rooms.

And this is written from a 6th grader's point of view.

I think every single one of you are right about the " Taken Thing.." I'm a kid posting this ( girl ) and I would also love meeting your kids! I like making new friends. . My name on VMK is FunkyMonkey-Bobby ( supposed to be FunkyMonkey-BobbyJack but is to long ). hope I see you all soon!

Thank you all for the suggestions! I did have my kids add don't do taken to their signatures. I just wanted to make it clear that I have no intention of letting them do taken! I agree its gross! And I am in the room (for the most part) when they are on. I just don't like ppl coming up to them and asking. Hopefully now that they have that in their signature it will stop! I really appreciate the help. I think that I have created two little VMK Monsters though! They get off the bus from school and start bugging me to play! They love it!

I know it sounds kinda strange but if u dont dress up like a "cute" guy then they will leave u alone most of the time. hope it helps some
