So our kids have APs but ours just expired. We're not going to renew.

Anyone know about using the child's AP for discounts on merchandise and food. The kids will be with us, but of course they dont have id to show.

I'm not sure. My child is 12 and has a State ID.

My oldest works at WDW. If we go shopping with him, he has to pay. But he's over 18.

Hmmm....when referring to shopping with your oldest. Are you referring to a CM discount?

If he takes us to the cast store. Which we haven't been with him for a year or so. That may have changed.

Last time we were in a park with him was during SWW, so that was a long time ago too.

That's why I said I'm not sure how the discount would work for dining or merchandise off the kid's pass.

IIRC, there is no different in price between the kid AP's and the adult AP's.
I have mostly certainly used one of my children's AP's for discounts on merchandise when I haven't had mine on me.

I can def see where the CM would be treated differently and the actual CM would need to be the "purchaser." Thanks!

Thanks for reporting! Hopefully this will be the case, with the 20% off it will really be helpful.

I have read repeatedly here that the kid needs ID just like an adult when using the AP for a discount. And that no amount of logic will sway the cm once they ask for ID.

Oh wow, that doesn't even make sense. My logic is I'm the parent, I paid for the pass...but I wasn't sure you how disney would see it. I didn't know if there was a clear cut answer, doesn't seem to be. We'll see I suppose.

At Cast Connection, guests are allowed to make their own purchases as long as the CM is present. The only difference is that you won't be able to get the extra % off that is available
(and of course for regular merchandise purchases, the CM must be the one paying if their discount is used)

Why doesn't it make sense? Disney doesn't care who paid for the pass. The request for id is to be sure that the pass belongs to the person who is using it. Without id, people could give passes to friends kids to get the discount.

The logic is simply that kids don't need ID in their every day life. If Disney is going to charge the same for APs for kids and grown ups, but make it impossible for many minors to use the perks, it makes no sense.

I think Disney states that for passholder (or DVC) discounts an ID is required. I don't think it would be fair to say anyone under 18 (or whatever age) doesn't have to show ID. As a previous poster mentioned, her child has a state ID. If the rules are clear about the requirements, I don't think anyone should expect an exception.

Especially because no proof is needed to show you are under 18. A young looking 25 year old could claim they're 17.

Good to know, thanks.

Yes the perk says the passholder needs ID. It doesn't care how old the passholder is, just have an ID. My granddaughters are 11 and 9 and both have official state IDs from dmv here in WV. Plus they also both have passports. So OP, if the kids have picture IDs you should be ok!

Btw, my husband was a CM for 8 years and when getting his discount, he always had to pay. Once I handed him cash and the cm got their nose bent out of shape.

That's a pretty strict company policy, and to have someone other than the CM use the CM discount can be considered a misuse of company assets and qualify for termination.

That's just it - it's a perk, not a right. Simple enough to solve the issue - get a child ID. Both my kids have had photo ID since we got them passports. Everyone should have a passport, IMO.

Why? Nobody in our family has a passport. We live right in the middle of the country and don't travel abroad.

I can think of better ways for us to spend what it would cost us for 5 passports.

And if you had to leave suddenly? What would you do?
