Anybody have a child who does FLOVENT or QVAR daily? I was wondering how it effects them...my son does two puffs in am & pm...He's been getting headaches since we have started the treatment. The doctor doesn't seem concerned- but, I am! The headaches wake him up at night or get bad enough to be sent home from school in tears. However, it only happens about once a month.

My DS 7 uses Flovent (2 puffs 2x daily). I
haven't noticed any side effects. He's been on
it for 6 months. If you're really concerned and
your doc isn't, it wouldn't hurt to get a 2nd
opinion.

Mine uses Qvar via nose. Works really well. They have headaches caused by allergies, not the Qvar.

My daughter uses Qvar with no side effects. I agree with getting a second opinion if you are concerned.

I use Flonase, which is the same active ingredient as Flovent just in a nasal spray, and I swear it gives me headaches! It was prescribed to help prevent recurring sinus headaches, but I've found I only use it when I'm having a bad problem with the headaches because otherwise it seems to give me headaches. Does that make sense? In short, if you think the medication is causing headaches in your child, stand your ground and request something different. In a kid, I wouldn't mess around with dosing/timing as I did for myself; simply ask for a different med. Headache is not necessarily recognized as a "common" side-effect in the fluticasone literature, but any medication can cause a different reaction in any particular individual. Good luck!

Thanks everybody! We are going to quit the QVAR starting in May to see how he does, if he keeps getting headaches we are definitely going to be seeing somebody about it! I think now its just too soon to tell...I will know for sure if it's from the QVAR then!

Try asmanex, it's a much better steroid and works great for kids. Qvar is the least potent of all of those medicines.

My daughter uses QVAR during the winter months and she does not have any issues with it (knock on wood!)

Does she quit taking it in the spring / summer? How does that go? That seems to be what they are doing w/ my son.
