Kids w/Acrylic Nails

As a mom of a graduating (excuse me stepping forth) student I can tell you it will be a cold day in ...... before I will take him for a tatoo. Maybe an ear peircing but that is it. Now I can think of a few moms who would let their princesses get anything, but most I think would tell the kids no way.

Ok, this is when I am so happy to have boys. Maybe I'm just old fashion but I couldn't even wear makeup in high school unless it was prom or something that big (I went to Catholic school too). I hate acrylic nails and I only had them done twice for weddings.

Two weeks ago I was getting my nails done. Yes I get my nails done. Anyway this cute little girl about 5 or 6 came in to get her hair cut. I had my back to her, so when I turned around she was getting her hair HIGHLIGHTED!! I did a double take!! She had beautiful chestnut brown hair and for the summer she wanted blonde highlights in her hair.

One of my Kdg. students moms was peroxiding her hair! The girl came in one day and it was a shade lighter. She came in a few days later and it was even lighter. It's been getting lighter and lighter by the week. Another mother (who is friends w/this student's mom) said to me "Can you believe that X's mom is peroxiding her hair?" I knew it wasn't the sun!!!!

I will admit, I paid last summer to have my oldest DN's hair done. She was 15 at the time. It was different color blondes to go with her already very blonde hair. Nothing dramatic at all. But one that isn't even in school yet? :confused3

And I wanted a pony! Its all nuts to me. I will continue to parent my kids and treat them as kids until they no longer are and then THEY can make their own decisions. Until then no fake nails, tattoos or high lights for 5 year old children around here!:sad2:

at 14 I dyed my hair, peirced my nose at 15 (with moms permission). I see my little ones (5 year olds and up) getting fake nails. Its horible.heck think of the grooming habits of a typical 3rd grader (some arnt so good about hand washing) and all the grossness under the nails ewwwwwwwwwwww. heck my tiny ones get cleaned daily.

People are insane. I'll just cling to the title, "Meanest Mother in the World."

Huh, for some reason I always thought you had to be a certain age to have that type of nail done. When DW Lauri and I got married, she took her bridesmaids to a salon to get their nails done with those acrylic dagger things that look like they could hurt but feel oh so good if you have an itchy back. Her 12 yr old niece was in the wedding party and the salon said that they could not work on anyone under the age of 16. I guess that was just a policy of the salon?

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at WDW has one package where you get a set of fake nails and I thought, even though I am overboard with the hair and the makeup and the dress up, I am still not going there, so we got the lesser package that doesn't include nails.

Sorry, a little off topic. :offtopic:

I just booked BBB for my daughter for our upcoming trip. I reserved the package for hair, make up and nails. I didn't know they put fake nails on them, I thought they just painted them with sparkle polish.:confused3 Can you get sparkle polish instead of fake nails?

Wow. I honestly don't get the whole fake nail thing for adults, so I definitely don't get it for a young child!

Yes, it's odd.

I wish people would just let kids be kids! and stop trying to make them minni adults.

I assume you can, and I was going to do just that, but I knew if my DD got wind of the fact that she could get fake nails, we'd have to have a "discussion" after she got a little huffy that I wasn't letting her get them and I just wanted to avoid the whole thing.

My DD went to the BBB last Oct, they painted her nails. But I do believe they had fake nails available.

I missed the mothers fit but was told about this....
About 3 yrs ago a young girl (about 9-10 I would guess) showed up at a national level TKD sparring tournament in Ft Lauderdale with long fake nails. Her mother went nuts went they had to cut them off to allow her DD to spar.

We took my daughter to BBB last month and her nails were just painted with a sparkly polish. We had the second package, I think it was around $45. DD is only 3 so maybe they do the press on nails for the older girls. If we do BBB again I will just go with the hair and make up package and do her nails myself. It took less than 30 seconds for them to slap on a coat of nail polish and it was already chipped by evening.

very weird for a 3rd grader, but its also weird for an 8th grader. I have an 8th grade son, but my sister has an 8th grade daughter. For their semi-formal, graduating from middle school dance, my sister let her go get a manicure with a bunch of friends. Every girl but by niece, got tips. And boy was she peeved that her mother didn't let her do it to.

Semi-formal dance for "graduating" from middle school? Now see - there is where the problem starts. My daughter had a "graduation" from elementary school (5th grade) which I thought was ridiculous.

If we think children are old enough for graduation ceremonies and formals why aren't they old enough for acrylic nails? If we are going to force are children to grow up quickly by putting on these events, we shouldn't be surprised when they feel they are old enough to dress the part.

We were just talking about this last night because a little girl came into my daughters child care with long fake nails - not press on because my daughter talked about how her friends nails were glued on.And they had a rhinestone with a little air brushed design.

So at pick up time I engaged the mother in conversation and she laughed about it saying that she saw there were other girls starting to get them and didn't want her daughter left out of the fads. But that the girl wasn't able to make her own bed or help out much with chores since she got them. :confused3

I'm still thinking about the tatoos....

Could you IMAGE what you would have choosen for a tatoo at that age?

I'd probably have Shaun Cassidy's name on my hiney.
