Thank you all for giving me your 2cents...I do appreciate hearing that this is not a normal thing to do. I do think it's a good idea to speak to the band director then, if that doesn't work talk to the school principal and after that- the next step. We have until the end of the second quarter to 'get a new or existing rule: changed, revoked or gotten rid of completely' for the following year...so we have a little time.
Two moms and I have scheduled an appointment with this band director for next week. I was told by another mom that this guy 'will probably be retiring shortly anyways'...but I don't care- because UNLESS IT'S at the END of this coming school year, it will effect my daughter and all her classmates that enter into it next year. My daughter is already IN PIANO, but it will still effect if she has enough kids in band to be able to participate in band concerts and other activities that they cannot participate in if there isn't enough kids who sign up...
