Well the enthusiasm for the kid's shows memories I felt warranted this thread.
This is gonna be a LONG list here we go.

Magic Garden-share any memories you wish, seems to be a good one for its uniqueness.

New Zoo Revue-remember this one? Freddy the Frog,Charlie Owl, Henrietta
Hippo ,Disney sized character costumes, don't seem to recall more than one set of backgrounds, just a little village.

Zoom- come on and zooma zooma zoom!

Joya's Fun School-Seymore puppet, Mr mixup, artist who would turn letters or numbers into animals through his artistry with magic markers.

Hodge Podge Lodge, Patchwork Family- unless you had a childhood desire to
bore yourself to death ,these were pretty much avoided.

Wonderama - especially when hosted by Bob McAlister. Nothing more exciting then when they would do the "disco", watching kids just "stand" around hoping eventually the concept of dancing would dawn on them.

Marlo and the Magic Movie Machine- found myself turning the channel once the novelty wore off.

Big Blue Marble- saw the credits ,couldn't stay with it.

The Most Important Person- animated ,starred a doofy green ostrich named
Fumble, with Bird, a pink bird, and Harry, a Cousin Itt lookalike.
Came on like School House Rock in between shows with messages like "Be Curious" "Where are you in your Family" "You can say a lot without saying a word"
Opening theme "The Most Important Person in the Whole Wide World is You
and You don't even know you,
The Most Important Person in the Whole Wide World is you,c'mon we'll
show you,
To find out more about the things you feel and do
'cause you're the Most Important Person in the World to you"

Kingdom of Could be You- Actually have thread for this already, figured i'd just mention here again though.

Did anyone else get the jeepers from the opening credits of the Underdog show with that demonic looking giant monster making his way down the street? Didn't help any to have a theme that sounded like a Gregorian chant
of sacrifice playing behind him. oooowa oooo wa oooo wa oooooo.

Capt Kangaroo- a classic. Stiil get a good laugh when remembering
how Bunny Rabbit would set him up to steal the carrots.

Hot Fudge, Great Space Coaster- I was not a fan personally but for those
of you who were I figured I'd throw 'em in here.

Bowling for Dollars- ok not a kids show but what cheap fun!!!!

Woodsy the Owl PSA'S -GIVE A HOOT! DON'T POLLUTE!!!

Alright let's get to the commercials

RIF-RIF is reading-is -fundamental. Genius.

"I'm really glad they made the children's aid society!!!" -JINGLE for chidren's aid society, repetedly sung by chorus of children in such a manner as to motivate you to throw brick at tv.

Apex Tech- why, you don't need to dream of a high paying job someday that may lead to other things. You've made peace with the fact that you'll never rise above manual labor right? Then Apex Tech is for you. Not only wiil you complete your training in a short time, BUT YOU WILL RECEIVE a free set of
tools upon completion of your program. Now he can't take the first step.
Oh No......YOU MUST TAKE THE FIRST STEP AND CALL HIM. Said in a manner
as if anyone was sitting at home saying to themselves "Yeah,i'd like to sign up, but I'll wait till HE calls ME.

The Albert Merrill School- "'scuse me but aren't you Jimmy Randolph?
That's right I am blah.blah, blah, OF COURSE! If you qualify you be could eligible for a gov't education grant or loan call now..."
Do a google search on Albert Merrill school you won't believe what it turned out to be.

CONTROL DATA INSTITUTE- It would state its number in a manner usually
reserved for gov't mind control interregations. "DIAL 757 -38-88! 757 -38-88!
CONTROL DATA INSTITUTE THIS PHONE CALL COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!!

Playworld -mentioned in Mt Airy thread, ending with camera focusing on
male pair of lips with lipstick on?????? As it sang "Prices so low, low, low
low,lowwwwwwwwwwww,PLAYWORLD!!!!!!!

ChildWorld- remember Peter Panda?

Here's a good one, could definitely count on seeing it at the half hour mark
of WOR Channel nine's Championship Wrestling Saturday's at midnight. The
Bob Backlund days for you wrestling fans.

We open up with a camera panning across an elegantly appointed living room
over the piano with a bust resting near or on it, we hear the "lovely" strains
of the song "A Stranger In Paradise" only to be told by a distinquished white
bearded gentlemen in white tie and tails that "did you know Stranger in
Paradise is actuallY polofexian dance no 3 by borodin? Yes this and many other classics can be yours, blah,blahblah,.............."in the age were we
were all used to 30-60 second commercials at the most, THIS DAMN THING
WENT ON FOR FIVE MINUTES!!!! YOU TURN THE KNOB AWAY FOR 30 SECONDS
TURN BACK- STILL ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Tom Carvel Ice Cream commercials- aside from that voice of his which
must have seen its share of cigars and pipes over the years, he makes
a point at one point to tell you in an overly enthusiastic tone that each Carvel
is run by an individual store owner!!!!! WOW!! So that should signal to me how extra special i'll be taken care of at my Carvel's!!!!!
It's an individual store owner!!!!!!!!!!!
Not quite........................our lovable 'ol Tom Carvel was REALLY saying,
"Dear child should you encounter any legal trouble at any Carvel Ice Cream
Store???? DON'T COME RUNNIN TO ME YOU LITTLE......! I AM NOT LIABLE!!!
WHAT PART OF INDIVIDUAL STORE OWNER DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?!?!?!?
Gee ,thanks Tom......

Now if you absolutely LOVE the memories here and want to share more I
would like to direct you all to RETROJUNK.COM and its forums.
Although so far no responses to Mt Airy commercial post over there,
they may be majority 80's nostalgia not old enough for 70's,still
worth checking out though.

Well I could go on but that's enough for now, let's here from you and your
responses and memories. Ciao for now.

watched and enjoyed alot of these (loved wonderama and i still contend it was the model for most of the successful kid's shows that brought nickelodian studios into initial popularity).

i student taught at a school that participated in the RIF program-they learned realy quickly to find out which books the teachers were reading out loud to thier classes and bring big supplies of these. i remember hundreds of copies of "watership down" because the 5th grade teachers were reading this to the kids and they all wanted their own copies :). a church we attended decided to implement their own version of this program and set up a program wherein every new baby born to a member of the congregation was sent an age appropriate book to read or have read to them for their birthday every year for the first 5 years.

on a wierd note re."the most important person". i was involved in a children's theatre group in the early 80's that was started by one of the educators who developed this show. realy strange man, but it was interesting to hear about how different elements of the show were put in place in order to secure funding (if they found a funding source that was for the purpose of promoting dairy nutrition they emphasised dairy products in x number of episodes in order to tap in).

biography channel did a fasinating 2 hour "biography" recently on sesame street. it detailed how the show started, the kid focus groups, the reasoning behind using particular teaching methods...and the way the show has changed the public school system (educators point to it as the reason kids are now learning what was traditionaly taught in grades 2 or more years later).

Well the Mt Airy thread was successfully bumped, so might as well try this
one. Any local NY area people out there who remember these?

.

I was born in the 70's so I dont remember alot of these... but I do remember ChildWorld.. there was one right by me. I remember shopping there :p

How about Crazy Eddie's........."He's INNNSANNNNNE!!!!"

do you guys have "cal worthington and his dog spot" (could be a leopard, elephant, monkey...)-he was local to us in so. cal-but then became at least statewide. also "hey vern" (the late jim varney)-i remember him doing local car dealership commercials before he went national.

How about Captain Noah? I loved him. :goodvibes And his picture song...."Send your pictures to dear old Capt'n Noah, send today, send right away, send your pictures to dear old Capt'n Noah, be a pearl, little girl...." I would always look for my pictures when they showed them but I never did find mine. :guilty:

/
ok.. this os form the 80's - 90's... does anyone remember Kids Incorporated? :rotfl2:

I have the stupid theme song in my head... I used to watch it all of the time.

I didnt realize Fergie from the Black Eyed peas was on the show.

I'm really dating myself anyone remember Officer Joe Bolton and Captain Jack McCarthy? Those are from the 60's. I remember a commercial from the early 80's Young People's Day Camp. My DD would call me to watch this commercial each time she saw it. She told me about 5 yrs ago how mad she was at me that I never let her go!

I remember a lot of those shows o'malley. Magic Garden, Captain Kangaroo, New Zoo Revue. Do you remember Electric Company or Mr. DressUp? LisaNJ I used to watch Kids Incorportated. Actually I have a cassette tape somewhere that they made. Scary.

OK. There was a short time when WOR, channel 9 New Jersey (NYC metro area) would run two commercials back to back. The firest would end in "its the number one fact of life, VD gets around" and would cut immediately into the next commercial "New Jersey's Got It!"

Someone at that station had a wicked sense of humor.

Do you remember on WPIX, Channel 11 they used to have that game during commercial breaks where kids would call in and try to "shoot" the plane or whtever in the target zone by saying PIX PIX PIX! LOL
They always said it a smidge too late, used to frustrate me! :rotfl:

another commercials..I forget what the store was called but they were at "11 11 Old country Road in Westbury CT...and NO talking orangutans!"

I remember Sesame Street before Elmo showed up, The Electric Company and Zoom. Did you know that The Electric Company is now available on DVD? I loved School House Rock I'm convinced that I learned to multiply much faster thanks to those skits. I love having Netflix I can relive my childhood through them.

Does anyone remember the Banana splits.....use to be so jealous of the amusement parks because I never had been to one...
How about that show Sidd kroft... the one with the sea monster in it and the freaky witch with the striped stockings........ oh great now this is gonna bug me!!

Sid and Marty Kroft; the witch was named Witchiepoo I think. Whoever made that show was on some serious LSD trip.

HR PufnStuf had witchypp and cling and clang and Jack Wild as Jimmy(?) and Freddie the Flute.

Sigmond and the Seamonsters

Land of the Lost--does anyone remember that corny show?

Loved Wonderoma, New Zoo Revue, Captain Noah and Sally Starr

Anyone remember Gene London??? He was a big Walt Disney fan! I loved that show!!

And on Sunday mornings...Chief Hafton...he'd showcase local talent. I remember some kid standing on his head! LOL

Wonderama - I remember that from the late 50's early 60's when Sandy Becker was on it. Does anyone remember they used to have a box with keys and you had to find the right key out of 100 to open the box? LOL we had a box of keys at work the other day and were doing just that, I could just see kids from Wonderama doing the exact same thing.

Who remembers the local CP telethon on channel 9 every February? And when Channel 9 played the same movie every night all night long for a week?

Oh, I forgot to say, I loved Zoom. I was a Zoomaholic! I loved Bernadette. My best friend and I would play Zoom. "Sent it to Zoom...02134 send it to Zoom!"

I watched the very first Sesame Street. My aunt was a 1st grade teacher I remember the day she told my mom to have us watch it.

BOONE..... BOONE .... BOONE TOWN.

Oh I loved that one. Wished and Wished I could ride the Pony Express.
