LOL! Do you wnat to be a model..or just look like one? Then call Barbizon today!

Now I remember. Too funny!

Hey Mkaz! Manny Gorden? Does'nt ring a bell unless I were to see the
commercial again.

Barbizon??? OF COURSE. Like JVL1018 said, want to be a model.......
a little truth in advertising would've been, "want to be a model, or pretend
to look like one?"

Along those lines Mkaz did you ever see The Robert Fiance Institute for
Hair Design? Or the awful, and I mean so darn doofy, you wanted to possibly
smash the TV screen, for GLORIA MARSHALL SALONS!!!!
You might not remember those Mkatz they were kinda NY local.

Bob Backlund your hero? Hey ,nothing wrong with that .You were not alone.

For me "226-0841 The Pocono Gardens Lodge" had a heavier dosage in the
solution for insomnia, NO DOUBT ,"Beautiful Mt Airy Lodge" held its own though.

I LOVE that you went back ,and reread through my opening post. LOTS
of memories there to share and talk about!

JohnFish- Interesting bit of trivia there regarding Jean Shepard!

Phiily Beth- In the spirit of the Ideal Commercial , How about The Ritz Thrift
Shop? "You don't need a miliion to look like a million"

Ideal was also name of a toy company that they would work into the
Magilla Gorilla cartoons with Magilla saying, "THEY'RE WONDERFUL TOYS,
THEY'RE IDEAL, GET IT?"

MaryAnne- Castro Convertibles, WHAT FIDEL IS IN THE CAR BUSINESS????
But Yes ,talk about a commercial that could give Mt Airy Lodge some
competition in terms of CONSTANT airing. PROUD to say we never purchased
ONE DAMN piece from that place. Like they had the market cornered on
convertible furniture.

One more- "SO PLEASE MR D'AGOSTINO..................MOVE CLOSER TO
MEEEEEEEEEEEEE....................................................................."

Anybody remember Winky Dink? I begged for that mail away kit! I wanted to help Winky Dink out of his weekly jam! I watched the color reruns from
1969- ? Deputy Dog was another favorite cartoon.

Ah, Zoom alumnus Bernadette Yao (on the back row left in the photo below). A good friend of mine knew her; they went to the same high school outside Boston, and she actually did some background vocals for him on promo recordings back in the early 1980s (he was doing songwriting at the time). From what my buddy has shared, Bernadette grew into a warm, quirky, insightful lady. Apparently, she had plans of a career as a producer, but unfortunately those were derailed when she suffered some serious injuries in an accident circa 1990. These days, she runs a small local "healing practice" in Massachusetts.

My Goodness!!!! Thanks for posting that photo! Those kids are so familiar to me, truly I remember each face so well. And how neat to hear that update on Bernadette! Thanks for sharing that with us (me!)

We had a castro convertible, and i was able to open it when I was a little girl. I hated the darn thing. It was so ugly.
Whenever I had sleepovers, my mom would let us "sleep on the castro".

how about Puppy City on Avenue U in Coney Island?

Free Wee Wee pad with every purchase! Reading about the Castro convertible reminded me!

Bumping for holiday spirit. Any more North Eastern locals that remember this stuff? Hopefully sparks an interesting reminisce over your Easter dinner.
(wee wee pads not withstanding *ahem*)

Might have been early 80's but my favorite shows were Johnnie Sako and his Fying Robot and Ultraman!!! They were Japaneese shows dubbed, and in Michigan, which is not the North East.

the crazy eddie's commercial who later went to jail

Saturday night's Ron Delsners rock concert
Chiller, thriller with the hand coming out of the ground
my favorite is still Wonderama. I wish they had that on DVD :teeth:

I grew up about an hour north-east of NYC. Most of the commercials I remember were for stores in the city or in Paramus. Great to read that other people remember these goofy commercials with nostalgia too.

I remember a store called 'Two Guys'. They sent out play money one year about 2 months prior to Christmas. This was back when stores issued their own credit and credit cards. I remember my parents had about 50 cards from all over the place. Almost every gas station had its own as well.

There was a commercial by a furrier. I think it was Fred the Furrier. The commercial had beautiful poofy-haired models in long fur coats standing outside the shop modeling the furs while a song played over them- 'Come in out of the cold... Remember that one? Amazing it has stuck in my head for 25 years. I still sing it now and then. If anyone can get this song for me I will be forever in your debt.

Barbazon beauty school.

Kids Furniture Warehouse 'and NO talking orangutans'

There was one commercial about a clothing store that boasted that they sold "Everything for the well dressed man ... except shoes" The owner would be dressed in a nice suit and walking around and then the camera would pan down and we would see his feet as he said his famous line.

My younger son just loved Mr. Dressup. I saw somewhere that he had sadly passed away a few years ago. We had dish anntenna back in the early 80's & got a lot of west coast feeds as well as Canadian stuff (which was Mr. Dressup's channel).

But, way before then husband & I remember Mighty Mouse & Tom Terriffic!
