Kids selling stuff for fundraising: Vent and a question

I have already been hit up by the Brownies. My boss brought in her kids stuff this week and expects us to buy. I havent even seen what MY kid will bring home yet.

Poor house here I come!

Turns out, he says that the band director coach etc, has anyone who does not sell at least one product per day run LAPS, or do extra sit-ups/push ups as punishment!!!! Is this the norm now? And if so, what do you think about it?

Totally, totally WRONG! I do fund raising for my musical theatre program and I would NEVER in a MILLION years penalize a kid for not selling an item one day. What is this world coming to?! :confused3 :sad2:

I agree that punishing a child for not selling a minimum number of items is wrong. Really, really wrong. For families like us who really don't have anyone to sell to that is a huge problem. DH doesn't ask his co-workers to buy stuff, and I don't HAVE co-workers! I would be calling the principal and complaining.

Several years ago the school sent home an "opt in" letter saying that only kids with permission to sell would be given the catalogs. WHY did they abandon that approach? We didn't opt in that year and we didn't sell a single item when they sent the catalog home last year without our permission. How successful do they expect this to be without the support of the parents?

wow i cannot believe there is a punishment of sorts attached to the selling!

i like the idea, of just cutting the check!

I always buy it too. :confused3

Editted to add that we actually seek out girl scouts to buy cookies. :)

:rotfl2: I was just doing that for the calendars though -- not all sell fall products but my DD is a Girl Scout just doesn't have a troop, so she doesn't sell...well, she sold cookies last year but they lost her order form so I'm NOT about to do that sheningans again since it isn't like a troop got the funds to do any programming. It all went straight to council. My niece is a GS and last year she sold Fall Products, so I have been pestering her mom if they are selling again to make sure I get my calendars (yes, I can get free calendars but I *LIKE* my GS ones and they are only about $2.00/piece)...Actually I did it tonight when I called to ask about the cookie dough and then went "Do you know if she is selling fall products...make sure you tell me, I want my calendars!" I thought it should already have been underway since our school just did magazines & the GS sell the exact same ones in the fall too. I just told her how many of each I want already. I'm sure she thinks I'm

I know if people didn't bring in the GS form to work there were years I didn't get cookies because no one came to the door either. I was sad about that, at least now I still have an "IN" to get cookies one way or another.

I don't mind supporting kids in my school district.

But it's the parents that bring their kid's fundraisers to work and circulate it to co-workers that :furious: me off. I get bombarded at home, don't need it at the office too. Especially when it's not even the kids putting forth the effort!

This is what completely annoys me. I had a neighbor e-mail information about a fundraiser for her 9 yr. old DD who is raising money to travel to NYC next summer with her dance troupe. :confused3 I have no problem buying, but the little girl, who knows me very well, should be the one asking, not her mom.

I also had someone give me not 1, but 2 envelopes (exactly the same thing) for her 2 kids. She just handed them to me. I said, "what are these" & her response was, "Oh, the yearly fundraiser for Johnny & Susie's school". I casually paged through them & then said, "I really have to get going, I'll look later". She actually had the nerve to say, "when are you going to get a chance to look later." Uh..........maybe she didn't get it - that was my intention - not to look later!!!
