Could anyone suggest a really great kid-friendly restaurant? We're going to reserve several character meals but would like a few without - seems like a much more peaceful meal without having to scramble for photos every 5 minutes. I see so many other restaurants mentioned at some of the resorts - just wondering if any were more laid-back for kids.

Thanks!

The kids that we travel with (15, 12, 10, 5, 4, 3, almost 2 - different combinations at various times) love character meals but also really enjoy:
Biergarten - not exactly 'peaceful' but tons of fun, pretty good food
Whispering Canyon Cafe - although I hear they have toned the atmosphere down here quite a bit, which actually may be better for you :confused3
Trail's End - we book this one on 'movie night' and it is always a hit, one trip we didn't plan a 'movie night' and the kids still wanted to go here to eat, it's basic comfort food (fried chicken, mashed potatoes, etc)
The Plaza at MK - it's small, it's bright, they have lots of ice cream....

Here are my suggestions:

Tusker House, even if you don't go for the character breakfast
Sci Fi-SO much fun with kids, plus you can always load up on shakes/desserts to make up for the so-so food :thumbsup2
San Angel Inn-easy to find food kids would like, unique

One place that I would NOT suggest is Restaurant Marrakesh-when we were there, it was almost silent, and every single noise our child made seemed to echo. :scared:

I asked Max what his favorites were from our last trip, here's his list and the reasons.
Sci-Fi Dine-In - fun to sit in cars and watch the big screen, good food!
'Ohana - coconut races!
Hoop Dee Doo Revue - great show, lots of games & activities outside before show.
California Grill - Sushi dessert!
Tony's Town Square - best cheese pizza.
Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe - good burger, good show.

Some of my kids' favorite non-character meals:
'Ohana
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Coral Reef
Biergarten
Teppan Edo

I think some great non character meals for kids would be:

50's PTC
HDDR
Cosmic Ray's
Toy Story Pizza

We really enjoyed the Wave at the Contemporary.

We arrived with a sleeping 2 year old and 9 year old. 9 year old really enjoyed his meal. They were really accommodating. We had ordered for our 2 year old, thinking if he woke up, he would need something. They brought the kids stickers. When the little one woke up, they did the best to help us with him.

Also, the tables were very spaced out, so we did not feel like we were sitting right on top of another table.

Oh..and they boxed up his meal and gave us a bag when he did not eat.

Coral Reef, the aquarium will keep them entertained while you enjoy a really good meal.

Boma can be kid friendly, not particularly quiet, plenty to choose from on the buffet. I took our 6yo to the playground with the beeper while we waited to be seated. Apparently the pagers are good on the entire pool area. Ours beeped just as we were coming back inside, so I don't know how far they really work.

Sci Fi - really different
Le Cellier - recommended by DD 11 - great food she said
Biergarten - fun entertainment
'Ohana - fun entertainment ( don't like the food however)

Sci-fi and Mama Melrose in DHS
Hoop De Doo revue in Fort Wilderness
Cape May Cafe @ Beach Club
