The 2006 Disney MYW Plus Dining documents are ambiguous. I realize kids age 3-9 must order off the kid's menu, but there are no appetizers on the kid's menu. What has been your experience?

Some of the places we ate let them order off the adult menu for appetizers because there weren't any on the kids. Some of the kid menus have appetizers on them. My girls were sick of eating after the dining plan! They tell everyone they loved their vacation except for all the eating!

Actually its not ambiguous at all. The rules state that table service for kids includes an appetizer, entree, dessert and drink from the childrens menu. If an appetizer is not available on the children's menu, they may order one from the adults menu.

It states that children 3-9 must order from the children's menu if available, and I haven't found a kid's menu that offers appetizers. I would love it if they could offer appetizers (I have 9 year old twins), because the pickings available on those kid's menus are ridiculous.

They did have kids appetizers on the kids menu at the Sci Fi. They can choose either carrot and celery sticks with ranch dressing or fruit and cheese with our yougurt dip. My boys enjoyed them both! :)

Here was my actual experience.
All the counters let my son have any desert he wanted even where the kid's meal included one.
Spoodles let him order a flatbread Pizza as an appetizer and he got a special make your own sunday with an artist's palate with all the stuff to put in for desert. They would not let him order anything other than the flatbread Pizza on the adult appetizer menu.
Cali Grill did not let him order an appetizer. He got the Swedish fish over the rice krispies for desert.
Marrakesh did not let him order an appetizer and he got some Ice cream for desert.
CRT had a special appetizer plate for him and a special desert.
Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace, and Boma were all buffets and he could get anything he wanted. He wasn't limited to the kids bar.

Since the DP began last year many restaurants now include child appetizers. Off the top of my head I know of:

50's PT
BD
MM
Sci-Fi
R&C
Tony's
Jiko
Spoodles
GFC
Narcoossee's

Kona Cafe didn't have any kids appetizers and they let my kids order the sticky wings off the adult menu as an appetizer. I notice more and more restaurants are adding soup, salad or cheese and fruit as kids appetizers now so that should help.

We were there a couple of weeks ago and ate at Concourse Steakhouse. I happened to notice the kids menu had shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and a fish entree as a choice as well.

As with anything new and popular; changes have to be made as they become obvious.

Hence the menus will start showing some changes based on the needs of the Dining plan.

At a couple of places (e.g. California Grill, I can't remember where else) the server told us which appetizers from the adult's menu were allowable for DS and we could choose amongst those. They tended to be the simpler/less expensive things which seemed reasonable to me. We tended to share the appetizers with the table anyway and there was at least one from the kid's list that we wanted each time.

Noticed your purse in the picture on your signature. I have the same one. :goodvibes

We too noticed many places now have appetizers on the kids menu. At Brown Derby DD got a really good chicken noodle soup that she loved. Lots of places had kids salad with ranch dressing, cheese and veggie plates, and soup. I bet you they will ALL have them soon or resrict what adult appetizers can be ordered by kids. :)
