My husband and I are prone to motion sickness so will be avoiding this attraction on our October trip. Our two children, DS-13 and DD-10, do not have a problem with motion sickness. Should we put them on Mission Space without us? I'm more than a little hesitant to do that when I have no idea what the experience is like, but feel like they will probably want to ride it. What would you do?

how well do they follow directions? It is essential that riders keep their eyes on the screen; do not close eyes, do not look away.....

This ride is very tough on the body and not listening to the instructions can be bad for the rider, especially the inner ear.

So will they pay attention if you are not there to make them listen?

I did with my 8 year old son. Of course I had done it with him initially. I am not prone to motion sickness at all and that one just got me good, I wasn't right for a good 3-4 hours afterward. He did completely fine though and loved it. So the next year when we were down he wanted to go on it and I took him all through the line but told them I would not be riding. So I did let him go on by himself and waited for him at the exit. He did fine.

Of course I knew what to expect and knew what was going on in the ride and knew how he handled the ride.

I have been with single moms who have done this. They let you stay with the kids all the way to the loading area and then you wait at the exit. So the only time you are not with the kids is during the ride. That way you can make sure they hear the instructions and if they get cold feet you are right there with them.

The kids I was with were younger then yours and they did GREAT. (Mom was hyperventaliting just thinking about it LOL!)

Two days before the death of the little boy, my 11 year old ( he weighs 74 lbs so your 9 yo should be alright weight wise ) wanted to ride this ride. I'm pregnant so I couldn't ride and my Dh did not like the way that the ride ran so he backed out. Our 9 year old is very timid so he skipped the ride.

So my 11 y.o. adventurer decided to be the first to ride this ride in our family. He had a blast. He came out of the ride with the "p. bag" to his mouth and I thought that he got sick but he was just kidding. We told him it was very important to only look at the screen not others on the ride with you and to take some deep breaths if he felt that he was getting sick. He said motion of the ride made you sit back in the seat but he didn't feel like he was spinning but moving forward. He is a thrill seeker but does on occation get motion sickness.

He did great. He wanted to ride it right away again but we had to wait forever for him to get off so we made him wait until the next day to ride again. You can stay with the kids until they are in the briefing room where they have you exit the line and the kids will then go on the ride. We did make sure that he was riding with adults who had already been on the ride and they said they would look out for him if he got ill- he said that the handed him the bag before the ride started- I guess they didn't want to get ick on them if he was ill :rotfl: .

If I knew how to put a digital photo here I would share with you how he looked - it's really funny. HTH

Not as bad as some make it out to be, IMO. I'm the guy who touches the plate when the waitress puts it down and says "Be careful, it's hot!". :teeth: When they said that you shouldn't look side to side, I just had to!! Believe it or not, I had no ill effects, although I'm 36 years old and in pretty good shape.

It can really disorient you. That was my major downfall. I looked over at my son to see how he was doing and from the second I did that I was queezy and was soooo happy we didn't have to travel back to earth because I may not have made it.

I was thinking the same thing!!! PLEASE let us out here!!! I don't need to see how it feels to return!! I am glad I did it once, but that's it for me . . . I think!!

Well, since I rode it once, and NEVER will again, and my DH being smart, won't even try it...we put my DS on it alone and he was 8. My Dh waited in line with him, watched him buckle in, and then went to the exit to wait for him to come off. My DS loves the ride, and has been on twice now with no ill effects.

He will throw up worrying about things, but motion does not bother him..LOL

You have all just saved my marriage. DH and I have been fighting over who has to ride this with DS(11) I have high blood pressure but rode it last time and was not a huge fan. DH hated every second of it and threw up when he exited the ride- so he doesn't want to go again. But of course this is DS's favorite ride. I am so happy I can walk him to the ride and then wait at the exit- I should have thought of that with all the chicken exits they have. Thanks again guys! ;)
