On our upcoming stay in January, there will be 4 of us. My son is 11, and a picky eater. Although he is over the age limit, will he be able to order off of the childrens menu at TS restaurants?

I think if he can, and I ask them to do a pererate bill, I will pay OOP and save his TS meals for buffets and HDDR.

Will that work?

Yes, in most cases, anyone can order from the children's menu. Be sure to tell the server beforehand that you want to pay OOP for your son's meal. When it comes time to pay the bill, you'll get two. One for the items that will be paid for using the DDP and one for the items that will be paid OOP.

You seem to already know, but you will still have to pay the adult meal price for him (regardless of what he orders) at the fixed price meals (e.g., CRT, HDDR), dining packages (e.g., Fantasmic Dining Package or Candlelight Processional Package), buffets (e.g., Chef Mickey), and family style meals (e.g., 'Ohana).

*There were some reports earlier this year that La Hacienda (a third party venue) was not allowing adults to order from the children's menu, but there haven't been any recent reports.

I have heard that The Plaza at MK will not allow it but most of them will.

Do keep in mind that these are rather small kids meals. If he is picky he can order things on the side or to be left off completely. Also, as long as something is a side dish for one meal, it can usually be substituted in another meal.

Former picky eater here! And my son is Autistic so I totally get picky. LOL

We had our first experience with a kid being a Disney adult this past Sept. and each place was very helpful and basically allowed him.to order whatever he wanted. We actually ata at the plaza twice and he was able to order off the kids menu.

I appreciate the responses. That is kind of what I figured. We are eating at HDDR, I know he will pay adult price there. Tony's Town Square is iffy. Not sure which menu he will order off of. Coral Reef is definitely the kids menu and Prime Time Cafe is iffy (he thinks he wants the fried chicken, but maybe I'll split a meal with him). I want to get the most for my dining plan. If he orders off the kids menu enough, we will have enough TS to eat at a nice place once more!

IMO, you might want to think about going without the DDP altogether with a picky eater and the possiblity of sharing.

We went without DDP on our last trip (and had two character meals $$$) and still spent less than the DDP.

Coral Reef we had no issues with when DS was that young. 50's Prime Time he has always ordered the fried chicken. And eaten all of it. No clue how. I never finish my meal there but appreciate the veggies and home cooked feel of the meal.

Does your son eat steak? My picky ds12 ordered it with no sauce and fries at Coral Reef and ate every bite. He did order the fried chicken at 50s but I knew he wouldn't eat it (doesn't eat fried chicken at home). He ended up with dd9s nuggets and she ate the chicken.

We just returned from our trip. My daughter is the same, we knew going in we'd have problems with her finding things to eat. We also knew we'd have no choice but to use a credit for her at Via Napoli, but planned on paying OOP everywhere else and saving those extra credits for us to dine at Signature restaurants. Every restaurant we checked in to I immediately told them we were 2 adults and 1 child, but they knew we were 3 Disney adults because it shows right up in the system. Still. It was not a problem anywhere except Le Cellier, which was really surprising. The Hostess there was really being difficult about explaining the rules to me so I just split my dinner with my child. Overall it worked out well for us as we were able to eat at 3 different Signatures thanks to those extra credits.

I agree. We are paying out of pocket and looking at the menu and knowing we are not getting dessert at each meal saved us a lot of money (almost 170 per couple)
