I am getting really nervous about ordering kids meals for DD who is 11 (and looks every bit of 11 or 12) when everything specifically says: Children 9 and under. I purchased an adult ticket for her and paid adult price for HDDR, but I intend to order her kids meals at Rainforest Cafe and counter service restaurants. Are they going to look at me funny? She just does not eat that much food and I don't want to be wasteful. Please assure me that it is OK to order kids meals....

If not for the ddp we would order my ds11 kids meals a lot of the time. He likes those choices and not so much the adult choices. I think it would be okay but I haven't done it personally. I don't see why it wouldn't.

My oldest DS was 13 yrs. old on our last trip and he ordered kids meals several times. No one cared. In fact, the waiter at Raglan Road was super-nice about it and told him he liked the kids stuff better, too. ;)

Most of the TS places don't care (as long as it isn't pre-priced) and at CS they really don't care. That being said the CS portions for kids are mostly preschooler sized. We did a lot of sharing 2 adult meals among 2 adults and an 11 year old which worked pretty nicely. My 2 kids would often share 1 adult meal which was great as well. The sides on the kids meals are usually unsweetened applesauce, bags of carrots (good sized), grapes (tiny amount), or apple slices (small amount), or fries which were all fine but the protein part would be tiny--4 small chicken nuggets, tiny scoop of mac and cheese, 1 small chicken leg, or mini hot dog or small burger. They also have mini pizzas now too. My daughter was 8 on our last trip and weighed at most 60 lbs and it definitely wasn't enough food unless she filled up on fries or dessert. On that trip she and my 10 year were both fine ordering kids meals at TS and the amounts there were mostly ok for the younger one. RFC though may be a problem. It just varies but they seem to always try and pad the bill there and we were given a hard time when my son was 10 and 11 and my daughter at 9 (she's the size of a 7 or 8 year old). Ultimately they allowed it but it wasn't simple.

Nobody will care at the CS places. Lots of adults order kids' meals if they are not very hungry.

Also, we were at the local Rainforest Cafe a couple weeks ago and they asked us if we wanted a kids' or adult menu for our 13 year old. (He is 5'8" tall and could easily pass for 15 or 16.) He opted for the adult menu as it would have taken 2+ kids' meals to fill him up. Anyway, hopefully it won't be a problem for you. :)

Thanks a lot for the information. I may actually decide to let her order off of the adult menu at Rainforest as it is a sit down restaurant and I do understand that there are age limits for a reason. I just don't want to have to face that the rest of the time since we will be mostly eating at CS during the week.

The kid meal portions at CS is small -- very, very small. I doubt they will even be enough to fill my dd5 I can't imagine giving them to an adolescent.

The kids meals at RFC are HUGE. My DD is almost 18 and always gets the kids chicken nuggets meal when we go. The RFC at AK has always been great about letting her order off the kids menu. Only once did we encounter a problem and that was at the RFC at DTD. The manager came by and was shocked that the waiter wouldn't let her get a kid's meal. He said it should have been no problem at all.

Some kids meals are small- 4 chicken nuggets at places but I as an adult will eat a kids meal at Lotus Blossom Cafe (China) in Yukatori house (Japan), and at the Yak and Yeti. I find that is as much as I need. I also find the kids meal hamburgers are neough for me with the sides and drinks.
