Did anyone find this info that I found on mousesavers.com to be true?

Here's a related tip: reader Hadley B writes, "The last time we ate at the Backlot Express in Disney's Hollywood Studios I was reeling from the kid's meal prices and asked why they were so expensive at this one place. I was told I could order the same meal without the little plastic souvenir box for $1.50 less. With several kids this adds up fast. My kids were definitely willing to put the money towards an ice cream later in the day rather than have a rather useless plastic box (which would have been a pain to keep up with all day). The cashier told me that any time a counter service kid's meal comes with one of these boxes, ordering without it and saving $1.50 is an option."

i've had kids' meals on the ddp and have never rec'd a souvie "box"... so not sure if the info is true or not...
would love to hear from others...

I'd be interested in knowing how old that hint is, because although I don't have kids I don't recall anything recent about souvenir "boxes" for kids meals.

My kids got their kids meals in sand pails with shovels at Hurricane Hannahs, but they've never had a meal anywhere else at Disney in a souvenir box. The meals with the pails may have cost more than other kids meals elsewhere. I didn't pay attention to prices, because we were on the DDP. 2 yrs. ago when we went to SeaWorld, the kids meals were served in plastic Shamu-shaped boxes. They're actually pretty cute and have a nice carrying handle. The kids still use them to tote around their little treasures.

I was a CM at Backlot Express in 1999, and during the time I worked there, the kids' meals did come in a plastic box. If a guest requested it, they could get the meal without the box for a lower price (I can't recall the exact discount, but $1.50 sounds about right). So I can confirm the OP's quote was true at one time, but I haven't been back to Backlot Express since then, so I have no idea if they are still serving the kids' meals in the plastic lunch boxes (from PP's, it sounds like they aren't).

I've been taking my kids to WDW since 2001 and don't recall ever getting a souvenir box for their meals.

I remember those boxes! I haven't seen any of them in ages though.

We dined at Backlot Express in January 2010, and the kids meals were served on regular plates.

I was wondering if you are able to get a kids sandwich with out having to buy the entire meal. I tired at Studio Catering Co. in December and was told no - I couldn't just buy the PB&J.

Anyone else able to do this?
