I told my 7th graders that I won't be at school Monday because I have to report for jury duty. One boy asked if I was going to be in Martha Stewart's' trial. I told him she's not being tried in our county. Another one asked if I get to pound the gavel. I guess we need to start civics classes earlier.

Kids are funny. :D I'm also a teacher that was called to jury duty this past fall. I teach 1st grade so I really didn't bother to expalain it to them. People think I'm strange, but I actually ENJOYED jury duty.:D I love working with children, but it was so refreshing to spend a week with all that adult company.:D

That's cute, Sandy. Once your duty is over, this might be a good opportunity to let them know about your firsthand experience. Maybe you could even have a mock trial in your class.

Class trip? I remember taking a class trip to our Township court when I was in school. ;)

I'm hoping that I don't get picked for duty. I'm trying to prepare my students for our state Writing Assessment the first week in March and I'm supposed to have training this Friday for our new state standardized testing program scheduled for April. I really don't want to miss the training. I'd really like to serve, just not at this time.

Can you postpone/reschedule, Sandy? I know that's an option where we are. But then you're just about guaranteed to be called when your time comes around again.

I guess I'm strange, too because I've always wanted to serve jury duty.

I'm on call for jury duty through Wednesday. So far I don't have to go on Monday but I have to call in after 5pm and check Mon evening to see if I need to go on Tuesday.

I am on call for Jury Duty this month as well. Tentatively scheduled to appear for assignment on Feb 18th and March 10th. I rather enjoy serving as a jurror... it is always interesting and I feel good about giving back a little bit.

Where I live, you can ask for a postponement.

I was never called for jury duty until I moved into a new county. then they called me for duty in the old area. I told them I no longer lived there and that was the end of that.

I enjoy Jury Duty...I have been on 8 trials, everything from a work injury lawsuit to conspiracy to commit murder.

I finished three months of Grand Jury duty last month. I even got appointed Assistant Foreperson. Not sure how that came about as the Foreperson and myself were appointed by a judge. They asked for volunteers for Secretary. But, it was very interesting and I was happy to do it. We sat 2 days a week for the three months. I even liked the nice leather chair (only the Foreperson, Secretary and myself had these:teeth: ) so much, I ordered one for my office at work. Nice swivel burgandy leather executive type. One break I flipped the chair over and copied down the numbers, found it on the internet and had it shipped to the office. ::MickeyMo

but once when I was called for jury duty and was refused a rescheduling request though I was in a really bind at work I did the following:

When I was called up to the front of the courtroom in the jury selection process I grinned and nodded my head at everyone........... I was excused right away. I don't think they want a person on the jury who can't keep his/her emotions under control. Or one who looked like a big dope

LOL crazyforgoofy!!

Maybe I'll try that Monday morning! I really would like to serve, perhaps they will let me come back in the summer. Let ya'll know on Monday.
