Just got off the Wonder yesterday and wanted to share something. I was in the Cove Cafe and a family with 3 little kids came in. They were in there a long time and I spoke up to the bartender about this being an adult only area. She said there is nothing she can do and it's ok that they bring in little babies. (the kids were probably 1,3 and 5)

I was shocked at this answer. The father could have easily gotten coffee for both and took them to a non -adult area. No need for the kids to be there.

3 years ago, it was myself and my 4 year old. I wanted to grab a latte and leave. They told me that my 4 year old couldn't come in, I said I can't leave her by herself, but they insisted and she had to stand outside the actual glass partition that separates the goofy pool to the Cove.

So why is it now ok for this family to sit in the cove with three little kids?

I noticed quite a few times kids in the adult areas this cruise. CM's doing nothing about it...

I did write about it on the comment card, but has anyone else noticed this?

Im glad you wrote a comment upon card.

I hope this was a one off as one of the things DH and myself really enjoyed was the adult only areas.

Writer a letter to the Cruise Line itself telling them of your experience as well.

The Quiet Cove area is just for adults and the CM's should be respectful of that fact and kindly let parents know who just may not be aware as it may be their first cruise, etc.

Personally speaking, if children are too young to be left by themselves then a good solution would be for the youngsters to wait in the Clubs under supervision while the parents are enjoying Quiet Cove.

Hope you had a wonderful cruise.

I agree...definitely follow up with DCL. This could be a training issue, there are alot of new crew members floating around who may not be completely comfortable telling guests "no" for fear of what the reaction might be.

I guess a question is what about when you just want to get a latte and leave? (which takes 3-5 minutes) Not convienent to take the kids to the club, check them in, get the latte and go back to the club and check them back out.

I wish there were two coffee bars. One so I could go in with my kids and get a latte and another one for the adults to enjoy.

I'd have been fairly ticked. There is no reason for kids to be lingering in the adult only areas. I'm glad you put it on the comment card, but hopefully you'll follow up with a letter to customer service now that you're home.

We were on the wonder in April and whilst DD was in the kids club we went to Cove Cafe with our baby aged 5mths. He was sleeping soundly in his stroller and there was no-one else in the cafe so we asked if we could bring him in and have a coffee. The CM apologised and said no, the baby could stay with us whilst we were served but once served we would have to sit outside. Which is fair enough but it seems there is no consistency.

I was on the same cruise and while in the cove looking out at the pool, I saw some guy walking around with his kid. I'm afraid nitwits are in every crowd. I could tell you about the ones that kept putting stuff on my chair at Castaway Cay but.....

Last April on the Wonder we had the same problem with a family that had their 3 kids (all over 6) at the tables outside of Cove Café, the CM in the Cove Café had a ship's officer politely explain to the father that it was for adults. He put up a bit of a fuss but left finally.

I would definitely follow up with a letter the cruise line. My daughter couldn't wait to turn 18 just so she could go in there and get her lattes. She looked over 18 at the age of 16 but knew she wasn't allowed in there, if she wanted one I went in and got her one. You know how some people are, the rules just don't apply to them. I personally don't see a problem with a person with a baby going in just to get their coffee and then leaving, but not bringing in 3 kids and sitting there while drinking their coffee.

I hope that this isn't a sign that the adults-only areas are becoming less so. I think that DCL needs to maintain these areas as adults-only in order to avoid being labeled as a cruiseline only for families with kids.

In addition to the comment card, I would have complained to the Cruise Director. It's been our experience on past cruises that the Cruise Director has done a good job of explaining the rules in the daily announcements especially with respect to behavior. He/she might have also been able to communicate to the Cove Cafe crew members to politely inform patrons of the rules if they saw infractions again.

I never thought about that, good point. They do make reminders on the overhead announcements and the ones that are done in the rooms all the time. I'll have to remember that if I ever have a problem.

I was also on the same Wonder cruise, and this happen several times while I was in the cafe as well. The one day three kids running around making a racket and the barista politely let the guest know this area was reserved for 18+ and the guest bit her head off. I felt bad for her!

Last September my DS12 and I were taking a walk and thought it would be nice to grab a Latte to bring back to the room for DW . After I ordered, the CM in Cove Cafe asked my son to step outside, which he did with no complaints (well, he complained to me later). I suggested to the CM that they incorporate some means, like a walk-up window, for a parent to get a coffee/Latte/whatever with their child since there was no other decent coffee onboard. He nodded his head in agreement, but I'm sure it didn't go anywhere from there.

This "lady" is teaching her kids to be the next...you know whats of the world.

We cruise with kids (granddaughters) and without. Adult areas are meant to be adult areas.

Although I do think a walk up window would be a nice addition.

Hi there...just got off the Wonder yesterday. I'm happy to say that every time hubby and I were in Cove Cafe, we never saw children inside, except once... One occasion, I did see kids walk in with an adult, and the crew member politely reminded the adult that it was an adult only area. The parent proceeded to order their coffee after sending their kids outside with another adult.

I would LOVE to see a walk up window on the family side for coffee!

DCL if you are reading:

a walk up window or a 2nd area (even on another deck) to get coffees

Great idea!

I'm not so sure about the walk up window. I like the slow pace in there. It's relaxing. A window would make it like a Starbucks.

The reasons I like the Cove Cafe are:
1. A special quiet time for dh & I talk with no kids around
2. slow pace
3. the peace & quiet

I don't think anyone would be put out to have their child wait outside while a drink is made. It's quite clear that Cove Cafe is for 18+ years old. I appreciate that Disney has an area just for adults to relax and have a quiet place to talk or read.
