How does having kids affect where you want to stay?
I have noticed that people with kids dont seem to like SSR as much as those who dont, what about the other DVC homes? what do you think?

My kids LOVE SSR. We've stayed there the last family trip and will again in March.

Since our kids are young, we prefer to stay at our home - VWL. It's closest to MK where we spend the most time. The "darkness" that some others don't like in the decorations is also very soothing when you're trying to get an over-stimulated toddler to take an afternoon nap! ;)

When our kids are older, I think we'd really like to try the Epcot area DVCs as DH and I love Epcot and the kids will enjoy it more once they're a little bigger. OKW and SSR aren't as appealing to us since we don't rent a car at WDW. I think that's a big factor: if you rent a car or drive down, having parking at your door is a huge advantage.

I believe we have picked BCV because of SAB for our son, but DH and I love it too. I would have to say that we don't pick based on DS, but rather on when we're going and where we feel like staying. I love the DVC's that have the hotels because I feel everything is right there where we may need it, but DH loves OKW and I know he will love SSR. Both of these are personal opinions, not based on DS.

I think each resort has its advantages and disadvantages with kids - and its what is important to me may not be important to you. For instance both SSR and BCV have zero entry pools - which is really nice, and kiddie slides, also nice. But, personally, we aren't going near SAB with a seven year old - too grey hair inducing. I'd imagine the extra space at OKW can be quite nice, but walking from a room at the far end of the resort to the theme pool could be quite a hike. VWL has the MK access - a big plus....and so on.

We took DD to SSR when she was 16 months in Sept 04. It was great! This September we stayed at OKW and kept popping back to SSR because the pool was ideal for us with a toddler. We have just booked to go back in Feb when DD will be 2 years 9 months.

Here are some of the things we like about SSR with a little one:

-the zero entry pool is so convenient, especially if you get loungers right by it. One parent can rest while the other sits in the water with little one
-the Donald splash pad, DD loved this!
-the little water slide was very exciting for DD
- drawing easels with Disney colouring on at Artists Palette
-really cute playgrounds
-parking near the unit, useful if DD is asleep (at some other resorts we valet parked and had to walk what seemed like miles to the room, no good if DD is asleep and we are carrying her)
-lifts in all buildings mean we can wheel the stroller right in
- can walk to DTD for a meal and a drink, can let DD sleep in stroller and walk home
-the Spa/ golf. One parent gets some free time while the other goes to the pool with DD
-Community hall, lots of activities for kids
-can get out to the 'real world' easily for cheaper offsite meals and groceries

We thought it was perfect with a little one. Cannot wait to go back. We have had great trips to VWL and OKW too with DD and did not think they were more kid friendly. I think all WDW resorts are good at catering for kids.

Just my opinion..

My ds(5) loves BWV. The entertainment on the BW at night is so much fun, and he can't wait to get back to the resort and the Keister Coaster at Luna Park!

BTW- DH and I love it there, too. It is so easy to walk to two of the parks, and we love being close to the dining choices of Epcot and the BW (especially with the AP discounts...we sometimes just go to Epcot for dinner and then return to stroll the BW).

I guess I don't think having children with you matters as much as the personality of the member. We will stay at VWL when our family with DGrnds come with us because of the proximity to MK. If we didn't have the points at VWL to book or it was booked, we would go anywhere except OKW because I don't want to deal with steps and paraphernalia. If BCV, we would just stay at the villa pool, it would be fine.

We have stayed on and off site at standard hotels. We most recently rented at VWL. We came back loving DVC and have put in a purchase at BCV we hope gets past ROF.

We have three boys 7, 4, 1.5 so we thought long and hard as I am sure you are.

We loved VWL. It is so close to Magic Kingdom where we spend most of the time. It is basically connected to monorail resorts via Contemporary. So you have access to all the monorail resorts. VWL is beautiful and so quite. Nice to come back to such beauty and pleasantness. We are planning to stay here at least the next visit or two.

So why did we purchase at BCV?

As our boys get a little older we wanted to be more in the action and have more options for dinning. Also the fantastic pool.

We really felt that SSR is too far out. Too far from the action. But I did really like the basketball court and other recreations for maybe when the kids are teenagers. So we figure later in life we might try and stay there or OKW.

Hope this helps. Ultimately we felt you can’t go wrong.
