kid's grand finale show

Not to poke fun...but why wouldn't they want to be there?? My DD 8&6 loved it! My 6 yo spent more time there than the 8yo, but both participated in the final show. We were on a 3 day.

Jrsy Boy...i don't think there is a "minimum" hour of attendance in the club/lab in order to participate in the show. i think it's just an event in the club/lab that if you show up, you participate. but as parents, i knew i wanted my DS to participate...

when we went, our DSs were 4 & 2 at the time. our DS4 only spent around 6 or 8 hours at the club total...i think. (maybe 10...definitely more than 4, cuz we were at palo for dinner & brunch...and that would've been 4) we just picked and choosed (such a word?), the activities that he wanted to attend, and of course, made him go for the grand finale thing. he really didn't want to go, cuz he's sorta shy, and having only spent a little bit of time there, like an hour or two here & there, he was a bit hesitant. but the counselors were all very sweet! there was this one counselor, Nick, that our DS4 really enjoyed being with, he stayed with him the whole time, throughout the show, holding his hand and everything! and that got our DS through it all! and this time, he'll be a bit older, and our younger DS will join him in the club, and i'm sure they'd want to spend more time there...so hopefully, it will be ok. and...i've already told him that he'd have to do the grand finale show, for me! and he agreed! yay!!!! :flower:

I'm not saying DS8 won't spend the entire time there, but with kids, you know you can't take anything for granted. I keep hearing that this is something that shouldn't be missed, so I want to make sure he doesn't miss out on it.

i think the "shouldn't be missed" is for the parents perspective? i mean, who wouldn't want to capture your little ones on stage, with mickey & minnie! but honestly, on the other side, for kids, i think it's just a gathering time to go over a bit of "where to walk, wave, what not" maybe i'm wrong?... :flower:

"Celebrate the Journey" was at 5:00pm on the last night of our cruise. (3/23)
I couldn't believe how many kids were on that stage! My husband jokes that we dropped off our dd8 on Sunday night and picked her back up on Thursday morning. Just an exaggeration, but that kid literally lived at that club. We missed several photo opportunities with the professional photographers because she was never with us. I came home with only 4 photos!! My dd11 also went several times, but not as much as our 8 yr old.

I am going to have to give a dissenting view on the children's show. As several posters have mentioned, there are typically an incredible number of children on the stage for this show. We saw our DD's walk by on the way to the stage, but never saw them on the stage. Quite a few children get their photos incorporated into the video, but most children do not. So, if you are lucky and your child is tall or in the front row, or was in the right place at the right time to be photographed, the show might have some special moments, but for us, and for our children, it was pretty much just a mob of kids up on the stage, and wasn't a highlight of our cruise at all. I don't think we will make the effort to get there next time.

I have to agree here. It was kind of corny! I was in the front row like I mentioned, and I could barely see my daughter on stage. Also, she practically LIVED in the clubs and didn't make the slide show. BUT, as much as it was a cornball thing for me, I DID see her face light up when Mickey and Minnie got up on stage. She's a shy kid but I think just being up there made her feel special. I wouldn't feel bad about missing it myself, but at least ask your kids if they want to attend. If they don't, it simply isn't worth making them because it is pretty hoaky!

That was the biggest lesson I learned from this cruise. I realized how much this was not only MY vacation but my daughters vacation as well. Even at 5, she has her own ideas of what fun is, and they differ from mine. It was nice she had options. I didn't make her do anything she didn't want to do (including having dinner with me!) and ultimately we both had a fabulous time. I even left her on the ship for 5 hours while I went to St. Thomas! It just seems to work better if you let them decide on their own!

I am fairly sure the song from the kid's show is "On My Way", by Phil Collins from the movie Brother Bear. It is catchy; talks about 'new friends and people to see' and 'can't keep the smile off my face'. It is a really cute scene from the movie.

Thanks Susie! Your're right - this is the song and you can hear a preview of the Phil Collins version here.
(The version used in the show was not sung by Phil and I actually enjoyed it more since it wasn't just a single vocalist). You can read the lyrics here.

We thought our daughter would want to spend time with us instead of the kids club because she's an only child and can be shy about meeting new friends sometimes. We took her into the kids club as soon as we got on the ship to let her get familiar with it, meet the counselors, and learn about the planned activities. Before our first dinner was over she was begging to go back. I can't say enough good things about that place and the people who staff it.

fyi for anyone who is wondering, although I really enjoyed seeing the show on our first cruise, my kids had no interest in participating again because they didn't want to leave Castaway Cay early to get ready. When they went to the farewell programs that night I asked the counselors if they could get shirts and they said it was no problem (they even gave my son his cap). I wouldn't have minded if they said it was only for people in the show, but I wanted to let parents know they should ask if their kids aren't interested in the show.

This was us, too. There is no way I'd leave Castaway Cay early for the show. They really should do the show on a Sea Day when they know everyone will be there. You'd have to leave Castaway Cay by 3 pm if you wanted to do the show so, your kid can walk back, shower & change, eat, and you can shower and change, etc.. But we did get the shirt and cap when we asked for it.

My kids didn't like the show at all either. I was able to see DS most of the show, but I only saw DD when she first went up on stage. Neither one of them even saw Mickey on stage with them. They have both already told me that they don't want to do it again. I'll just go get the tshirts next time.

On our first cruise DS was in the 3-4 group with his sister. He was in the first row with that group sitting up at the front of the stage. The last time he was in the second row standing up in the 5-7 group but we couldn't see him either. He saw Mickey & Minnie & it was a new show from the last time so he says that he liked it. We taped it and both kids enjoy watching it now & then. DD wouldn't go up on stage either time so before we think about skipping it I want both of them to do that at least once. Yes, it does add some stress to the last day...onboard at 3, wash up the kids, take them to the club for 4/4:30, go back to the room to clean up & dress for dinner & put their clothes for dinner out, see the show, get them back to the room & changed & go to dinner. WHEW!!! LOL! The first time they tell me that they don't want to do it anymore I guess we will start enjoying that extra hour on CC. :)
