Is it okay for the kids to order off the adult menu. I really don't think I want my kids eating macaroni and cheese or cheese pizza seven days straight! My son loves seafood and my daughter likes things like grilled chicken. I don't see much variety on the kids menus so I hope they can order other things. Please let me know your experiences. We leave in 10 days!

Of course......you children can definitely order off the adult menu. You can mix and match app, entrees, desserts, etc. Several times my kids wanted only appetizers for their meals, so they would have say, two appetizers and dessert, or just salad and entree, etc.

My 17 year old just wanted a plate of chicken wings for dinner so our server brought out a platter of the Jerk spice wings for him. He was in heaven.

Just ask the server for their recommendations also, they rarely steer you wrong.

Hope this helps!!

MJ

Sure, my daughter ate off of the adult menu most of the time. You can choose whatever you want.

No problem at all!!!
Our tablemates (ages 7 & 9) had salmon, lobster & shrimp, etc. My DS is a chicken strips guy & I tried to tempt him with variety, but he was addicted to their chicken!

And don't forget that adults may order off of the kids menu also! LOVE those mickey ice cream bars! Remember to tell the kids that if they don't see something that they like -- they can always order steak or chicken every evening in addition to the regular menu selections. Also, a plain on tossed salad with dressing is also available every evening -- even if it is not listed on the menu.
:)

Thank you so much for all the prompt replys. You can always count on this board for the scoop. One last question, if your dinning rotation is on your key and say it is ALP do you just repeat that sequence through the seven day cruise. For instance you would eat at A's three times and the others twice. Also last question, (I keep thinking of new things) at what age can the kids check themselves in and out of the kids club alone? Thanks again.

Hi Judgekw! If your rotation starts with APL (that is the order they go, P always follows A) then you would be APLAPLA for your entire rotation...meaning you would eat in Animator's Palate three times. :)

The Oceaneer Lab allows kids as young as 8 to check themselves in and out of the club but ONLY if the parent gives permission for the child to do so when they sign up for the programming.

always eats off the adult menu. If he gets something that he doesn't like after seeing the entree, then he orders something else although this rarely happens.

This is great information. Thanks!

Funny story...On our 4/00 Wonder cruise my DD, then 7, asked for the adult menu on our first night in the dining room. She also asked for tea with her dessert. From then on she was always presented with the adult menu and the tea selection box. Well, we decided to eat in Triton's for lunch one day. We didn't get our dinner server but we did see him working in the dining room. When we were presented with our lunch menus they gave my DD a child's menu. Our dinner server came rushing over and said something like "No, no, no...the young lady prefers to eat off of the adult menu." and he quickly gave her one. She just beamed!
:)

I am so glad to know that they can do this. My 4yr will be happy with Mac & cheese, chicken tenders etc... But my 8yr will like being more grown up;) If you want more or something else can you get all you want?

Thanks, Anne:D

Anne, it's absolutely all you want. Our DD is 10, and she ordered off the adult menu more than 1/2 the time. She had lobster on semi-formal night, and they gave her a normal portion (which she ate 3/4 of)! When you order steak and lobster, they only give you half the lobster, so I was pretty surprised that they gave her a whole one. Several times, she ate all of an appetizer and they brought another one.

This isn't just at dinner either. She really liked the smoked salmon that comes with the bagel at breakfast. I imagine she probably ate about 5 plates worth of it over a couple/three days! Once they figured out that I was eating the bagel, and she just ate the salmon, they just brought plates of it!

They are very accomodating about the kid's tastes. The only time it's a problem is if the item is already pre-made. For instance, she likes quesidillas (sp???) but said she didn't want the green onions. They are pre-made that way, so she tried them anyway, and decided that she liked them. They did put all the sauces on the side for her, so she could pick and choose.

Just beware - when we got off the ship that first night my then 8 yr old asked what we were having for the FIRST course! LOL

My kids, ages 10 and 8, often ordered off the adult menu. DS loved the seafood - he likes real seafood - no fish nuggets of any kind for him. Both ordered the lobster - and by the way, the servers helped prepare the lobster tails for eating at the table - the kids did not have to wrestle with getting the meat out of the tail. When the server was helping my DS, the lobster tail ended up on the floor while the server was handling it - another was immediately brought to the table. On another night, DS really enjoyed the chinese dumpling appetizers - and had 4 servings of them for dinner.

DD is a chocolate lover. It took our waiter only 2 nights to realize that whatever was chocolate on the dessert menu was DD's dessert of choice. After that, DD was automatically brought the chocolate selection each night, and she often tasted our desserts too.

So anything on the adult or child menu is fair game, in any quantity, for anyone! And if there is something you enjoy that is not on the menu, just ask! For example, our table partner enjoyed a cheese plate for dessert for every dinner.

My kids too were quite spoiled by all the selection on the menus, and ate off both menus throughout the cruise.

tkd lisa writes: "They are very accomodating about the kid's taste." I can second that. My second cruise on the "Disney Magic," I was seated at a table with three generations of women from Ohio. The little girl wanted mac 'n' cheese, broccoli, french fries w/ catsup, a bowl of plain rice w/ butter, and for dessert, she wanted ice cream sprinkles.
Not ice cream w/ sprinkles, but just a bowl of sprinkles. And each night they served her that same meal, unless she wanted something different. Thus, they are very accomodating about a kid's taste. Enjoy!

My 2 1/2 year old ordered off the adult menu 3 nights out of 4...she had chicken tenders one night but the others she had grilled chicken, steak and fish from the adult menu. She doesn't like grillled cheese, pizza or mac and cheese!

I love to tell this story....
Our server handed our DD7 the children's menu and the first thing she said was, "Where's the escargot?" :p
The whole table burst out laughing and the server said, with a little bow, "I guess madame would prefer the ADULT menu." !!
She ate escargot, lobster bisque, salmon, scallops, clams oregenata, prime rib, lobster tail!

Alright...I've been reading these to my kids as we cruise for the FIRST TIME next May. They expecially liked TheTexasKid's story about the "odd" combination of foods for that little girl (my kids especially giggled because my dd DOES eat ice cream sprinkles for dessert--and no ice cream...and my son, at a buffett had a mixture of all the sundae toppings, but also no ice cream)

Anyway...my 5 yr old son had a palate expander put in today and he is not allowed to eat his FAVORITE food....popcorn. So he asked "will I have my "crank" out by the time we cruise?" I told him "yes." So he said "I'm going to order macaroni and cheese, fries with salt and vinegar and popcorn!" Then he looked at me and said "they DO have popcorn on the cruise, don't they?"

HELP!!! We planned this palate expander between two Disney trips so it wouldn't interfere with popcorn!! We MUST know...can you get Disney popcorn on board????

Thanks in advance!!

I think that's great if your children will eat what they're served, and I loved being able to stray from the usual chicken fingers and fries thing, but I couldn't help but cringe when the little boy (probably 2) at the table next to ours ordered a steak, baked potato, etc.. off the adult menu and of course at 2 bites and was done. This continued every night. I think it was the parents more than the child. Maybe people get giddy that they can order extravagant dishes and waste them, but it was hard for me to take. I have 2 daughters, 8 and 6 and they mostly ate from their own menu and I would offer them the adult menu to see if they would like to try any of those selections. I think once, one tried the main entree and another chose a dessert, but I'd be embarrassed if we did this every night and a whole plateful was left. Whose hungry anyway after all the hot dogs and ice cream? Does this bother anyone else? There seems to be so much waste on the ship.

To be honest the only time we ate was at meals so my daugter was hungry at meal time,we were much to busy most days to be stopping and eating all day....we did have ice cream one time the first day on board but never stepped foot near the other food places except or lunch and dinner...breakfast we had on our veranda most mornings. My daughter doesn't care for hot dogs which I am very glad about, the less nitrates the better.
