I was wondering what the rule is on kids eating on their own, we are staying at the CR in August, our 3 boys, 17, 16 and 13 are going golfing one day and my dh and I are going to the Grand Floridian for dinner, I would like the kids to have a good meal before and thought of Chef Mickeys, would they be allowed to eat on their own there, they are well behaved and I have no worries in that department. I don't want to eat there when we are going out for dinner. I will go sit with them but will the server be upset if I don't eat or should I let them go on their own? UPDATE: Just got off the phone with Chef Mickeys and they said no problem at all for the 3 boys to eat at the resturant on their own, good to know and have it official from the resturant.

I do not know WDW's rule about seating unaccompanied minors in table service restaurants.

You won't be able to go sit at Chef Mickey's without paying for the buffet though. Disney has this rule regarding buffets because it is too difficult to police the table and make sure you don't eat anything. If you want to do that, you should consider The Wave or Whispering Canyon at the nearby Wilderness Lodge (a la carte restaurants)

I don't know if Disney has an official policy about ages in restaurants, but I'd be fine with having the kids that age range to go to Chef Mickey's by themselves. As stated, you can't sit with them there without being charged.

we are going to Whispering canyon and the Wave other days, maybe I will ask when I am there and if they say no I will just take them to the Contempo Cafe, My 17 year old looks about 22 so maybe they will think he's an adult:rotfl:. I will ask when I am there and do what is allowed.

To be safest, I suggest calling Chef Mickey's directly to ask the manager there what their policy is.

If you Google Chef Mickey's Phone number, their number is the second direct hit.

OP, if you do call Chef Mickey's to see if there is an age policy, can you please post and let us know what they say? I'm curious! Thanks!

That's a fantastic suggestion! Much better than a dozen of us calling on our own to find out what it is. :goodvibes

Don't know about Chef Mickey's specifically, but when we dined recently at V&A, we sent our 14-year-old boys over to MK on their own. They had dinner at Tony's. They put the meal and a tip on the room key. No problem at all. They had fun. And, we did, too!

Frankly, it never occurred to us that the boys couldn't do this. With a 17-year-old in the group, your kids shouldn't have any problems.

I'd be interested to hear what the manager says, but I can't see this as a problem.

A 17-yr old may technically be a minor, but he can drive, hold a job, fly without an escort, could be in college living on his own. (I was.)

If you're worried about this there's always room service. I know my kids just LOVE getting room service!

Hi everyone,
I just got off the phone with Chef Mickeys and they told me it was no problem for the 3 boys to go eat there without parents:goodvibes

our daughters (17 and 15) have done this at several sit down restaurants. We have also showed them how to use the tip calculator on their cell phones.

Thanks for letting us know!!

I wonder how young they allow it, my 8 year old is pretty responsible, maybe he and his two younger brothers....;) :rotfl2:

(In case the wink and the rolling around on the floor laughing smiley aren't enough of an indicator I am JUST KIDDING. My little snowflakes aren't ready for that big of an excursion and I would never do that to the public at large.)
