The bows are adorable!!!! You should be very proud of yourself!!

The only tip that I can give is (if you don't already know it) to invest in some Fray Check for the ribbon ends. This will keep the ribbon ends from fraying and keep them looking great!! You can buy the Fray Check at Wal-Mart or any craft store.

Thank you for the advice. I do have fry check but am a little confused as to how to use it. Do you typically put it on before or after you begin to use the ribbon. I typically put it on after I cut the ribbon however I still have little stringies or frayed parts. Maybe if I use it first and then cut it would be better.

LOVE THEM! you should be very proud! im too scared to attempt bows....were they easy? the korker bow directions had me sweating!:rotfl:
what directions did you use? (if you dont mind sharing that is;) )

Thank you. I'm not artistically/craft inclined and I managed these so I guess that is saying something about the ease. I have done korkers but have not actually tied them into bows yet. I used the directions from the girly things website. Hope that helps!

Okay ladies. Here's my first ever attempt at making a fancy bow. Please critique it for me. This thread has brought out the crafty urge and I've very left brained so it's not easy. Please give me an honest opinion of what you think. Would your dd wear it? How can I improve? :teacher:

That is very cute! Did you use a satin ribbon on these? I love the mickey button.

FYI you can use clear fingernail polish on the ends of the ribbons if you don't have any fray check, just add a tiny amount to the cut end. Yes it will be slightly darker and shinier.

Has anyone seen the "Fabric Art" panels at Wal-Mart?
I bought one of each kind and am basically planning on making a shirt with the panel in the middle. My DD is 13 so need something a little older looking for her, plus she umm...wants me to do Villian stuff and that's not exactly easy to find. The panels are basically the Princesses but they have Toy Story, Nemo, Pooh bear too.

I'm going to try and make a red shirt with the Aurora panel since it happens to be what I have on hand. We will attempt the Villian stuff later (anyone do anything with the Villians?) -- Our Wal-Mart had iron Disney stuff so that's my method of starting out. Hee Hee but no Villians to be found.

I bought the princess panel to make DD's outfit to Princesses on Ice. It turned out pretty cute! I'd LOVE to see some villian outfits - especially Maleficent!! (but I'd want it for myself! ;) ) The only villian fabric I've seen was a really cute Cpt. Hook cotton print and a Davy Jones flannel print. Both of those were at Joann's. HTH!!

Also, I hope no one feels left out! I really think this thread just moves to quick to get all the questions answered! I've had questions that have been skipped over on other threads (and I've been ignored by the Tag Fairy for years! ;)) and yet I'm still back almost everyday! Hugs to everyone who has ever felt "left out" here...which is probably everyone at one time or another!

What I do with mine is after you cut your ribbon to the desired length and before you loop the ribbons to make the bows, I dab some fray check on those ends w/a q-tip and let it dry. Then after I have the bows made and the "tails" to the desired length I dab the fray check on those. I have never had one fray after putting that stuff on. I even use it on my ribbon t-shirts that I make (before I sew the sides back together).

OK, I'm going to attempt to make some korker bows. Has anyone curles their own ribbon? I found some good instructions...they give you the choice of using starch or wetting them and baking them in the oven. Any suggestions on which method to use? :confused3

Thanks!

I've never used anything on my korkers before I bake them. What I do is after I have my hair bow made, I spray the whole thing with a fabric stiffener so that it will keep its shape.

So you just wrap, bake, and then spray? These directions suggested wetting the ribbon before you bake it, but you don't do that, right? Where can you buy fabric stiffener - is that something in the craft section?

Thanks!!

I have never wet mine. I don't remember the instructions that I had ever saying to wet them (not the instructions that were on here) . Here is what I do.

I bake them, cut them to desired lengths, tie them for the hair bow, attach to the hair clip, then I spray it down with the stiffener and use tweezers to spring the korkers whichever way I want them to go. You could probably spray them before taking them off the dowels.

These instructions are pretty much what I followed when I learned how.

Thanks for sharing your secrets! OMG, I went on Ebay and I was floored to see that some people are selling the instructions for as much as $20! I am forever grateful for all the awesome tips and shortcuts I read about here. ;)

No problem sharing!! I did pay for the instructions b/c I never really found the right kind of free ones that I liked. I paid about $40 for mine but I have learned to make some really cute things!!!

Well a thousand thanks for sharing with us! :cheer2: I think my eyes almost fell out when I saw the instructions being sold! I admit, I would have never thought that you put the ribbon in the oven (first thing I thought of was FIRE!) :rotfl: Guess that is the best method though since nobody here really seems to be an advocate of starch. Good to know!

Gee, I feel invisible today (lol)... no one answered my question.

That's okay... I went to another site and they answered my questions.

Keep up the great work, everyone... beautiful work!

After reading your post about youcanmakethis,I checked it out. It looks very much like the boutique items seen on ebay and lots of other custom boutique clothes. Thanks for the link.

I am so excited I could scream. I found the most perfect fabric for an Epcot outfit. I'm afraid I won't be able to part with that outfit. I ordered it and can't wait to get it, I will definately be posting photos.
I'm also thrilled, I got to assist my first c-section last night. Too fun!!!
Beautiful little boy, was born. Absolutely gorgeous. I almost cried right along with the mum. LOL.

Hi Camping Griswolds...you ignored my question a few pages back!!:rotfl2:

I love your summer outfits for the princesses! What fabric did you use for the Snow White cape, inside and out? Was it detachable? I'm just wonnering how hot it gets wearing it and did your daughter mind it on her shoulders? I'm making a set of Snow White, Aurora, and Belle for my DD7.

Oh gosh, I didn't answer, because I didn't make it. I think someone used the quote feature, and it went goofy. No way am I that talented!!

That is awesome! I had a nursing student in with me when I had DD. She had asked me if it was ok to be there because she had to witness a birth as part of her schooling-I was like, sure! I tell you, she was much more helpful that even DH was! She got a bonus with a backwards and breech baby all in one! :rotfl: Glad you were able to be part of someones little miracle! It must have been amazing! ;)

OK, a little introduction here, but first... I LOVE this thread!!! I check it daily and go crazy if there is a day I can't check it- my DH already thinks I'm obsessed with the Mouse and now I've added Mouse clothing!!!:lmao:

Anyway, I've always been the creative type, but never learned to sew. Told my mother I was going to have a fabulous job and buy everything I need, so- 'thanks, but no on the sewing lessons Mom.' OK... fast forward to building our first home: wow, custom made window treatments sure are expensive... bet I could do that- guess I could ask Mom to help:flower3: please! Fast forward to my mid-thirties and now mom of twins: wow, would love to have custom made bedding... MO--O--M!!! Yep- always to my rescue. I bought a machine, she helped me and I got my custom bedding. Never once did she say 'told ya so!'.

OK, now in my (shh!) 40's and my twins are 7, my sewing skills have impoved a tiny bit and I'm wishing I could turn back the years and make all these wonderul designer items for my babies! But who wans to go back to 2- 2 year olds:scared1: Anyway, thankfully my 7 year old still loves this look- from the toes to the bows.

Sorry for the large pics- I uploaded and changed the size 4 times at PhotoBucket and could not get them any smaller (?????) Here is my first attempt a Minnie tee- I still need to stitch around the Mickey head.

And the belt- she really loves this one! I had those scrapbook stickers everyone was talking about several pages ago- and this is where we used them

This was my attempt last year (with Mom's help) for MNSSHP. The Cinderella dress was a leotard thing from the Disney store; I cut the panty out and made a skirt to put under the netting. Mom did the Peter Pan top, but I made the hat myself- woo hooo!!

Thanks to you all for all your inspiration, ideas and encouragement. It's been the kick in the pants I needed!!! Now on to more shirts, some bows, headbands, necklaces and flip-flops... who knows where we'll stop!! (Hmmm... if we could just get the basement finishing project done then I'll have my scrapbook/sewing room to just go crazy in... my dining room is a disaster!!!)
