Ok, I am going to start some Mickey applique ribbon tee's. I haven't appliqued on tee's before and figured I better ask for tips before I start. Since the shirring fiasco, I learned it's better to get advice BEFORE! So...anything I need to know? Stabelizer, I know anything else?

Just got home, my Mom is in the hospital, and decided to come to read this thread to destress.

Here is a picture. It also has velco pieces that fit into a pocket that I made on the skirt. The pieces can change the look of Mrs. Potato Head.

I love this. At my house, you can never go wrong with any of the Toy Story characters. It is nice to see them incorporated into a girl's outfit. GREAT JOB!

BTW - I just got 5 White Stag Ladies short sleeve tees for $5 (at Walmart)!!! There was a sign saying $6 but when I got to the check out, they rang up at only $1!! Yep, I went back and got myself some!! I've been looking for short sleeve tees for a week or so and Walmart was the only place I've found them!! Now I just need to find a girLs 2t white short sleeve tee. Not so easy in Michigan right now.

I'm looking for a little advice here as well. I have done 1 mickey head on a t-shirt from Target. It didn't turn out that well. I'm wondering if it's easier to work with a "non-stretchy" t-shirt? The one I used was pretty stretchy. Maybe a regular hanes type shirt would work better? Any advice would be great! I'm getting ready to make a few!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. We appreciate them!
Mom is not doing very well, and we are having to put her in a nursing home on Monday. I have to figure out what to do with her apartment and everything in it by the end of the month. Can I just close my eyes and pretend that this is just a dream?

I wish you a lot of strength for that job: I know it will be difficult. My parents had quite the time with my grandmother. They rented a storage unit to put all her stuff in because they couldn't deal with it and move her into a home.

Hi! I read this thread quite a bit and love it. I rarely post though since I cannot sew and purchase all of my customs. I want to ask a question, maybe it is a stupid question though. Do any of you get attached to certain outfits and keep them long after your kids outgrow them? I have quite a few that I know I should sell/list on that site but cannot bring myself to part with them. I won't be having anymore children, so saving them seems like a waste. I try and talk myself into listing them to make some extra $ for our May trip to WDW but have yet to do it. Now, I'm telling myself to wait until after the Holidays to list them but after the Christmas holidays it will be some other reason not to list them. I KNOW I should part with them, but can't. Does anyone else struggle with this?

I have only started sewing recently, but I still have everything my mom made for my kids. I tell myself that I am holding them in case my sister gets pregnant, but to tell the truth, I just can't get rid of them. So I know exactly what you mean, but I don't have a suggestion, sorry!

I use Heat n Bond Lite (not Ultra) and iron it on the fabric, then I cut the mickey head out of both. Then I iron it on the front of the shirt. I then use iron on stabilizer on the back. Then I sew all around with a zig zag stitch. Then I carefully tear off the stabilizer from the back. Each step is pretty easy, but they are all important and if you forget something then: disaster! :scared1: Believe me, I have thrown away the shirts to prove it!

I can't wait to see what you two make!

I've got to hop in the shower but our vacation is over and we'll be on our way home in a few hours. Sorry I didn't get to run into TNMom. I was tempted to wander around yelling for her but she probably wouldn't have heard me. :)

I'll have pictures up either tonight or tomorrow, my husband took an insane amount and we got almost 200 photopass photos so it'll take awhile.

Okay, I've got to go but I'll be back online when we get home in a few hours. I just finally got the small person to wake up, she has said she wants to go home. I think I'm ready too.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. We appreciate them!

Tom - so sorry to hear about the difficulties with your mom. I know it's got to be a very difficult decision, as well as an awful amount of work. I'll be thinking about you guys.

Yes. I have customs that don't fit, but I can't stand to part with them. I'll probably keep a few, and then with time part with a few.

I do just as someon else posted before. Fabric that is being appliqued, heat n bond lite (fused to the fabric above), t-shirt, sulky brand iron on stabilizer. I much prefer the iron on stabilizer. I tried the kind that you just pin on at first. I didn't work well with it. It became much easier with an iron on stabilizer. The only other suggestion I can give - go nice and slow!

For appliqueing on stretchy material, it helps to put a stabalizer on the inside. Take a square or rectangle piece of scrap fabric and back it with fusible web just like the outer applique is backed. Attach the stabalizer piece of fabric to the inside of the shirt underneath where the outer applique will be. Applique the outside then trim the stabalizer down about 1/4" out from the outter stitches. HTH. :)

I finally figured out how to make my own tags yesterday, and I wanted to share with others how I did it.

1) I used Microsoft Word to create a table with cells 2" tall by 1.5" wide. The table settings were 4 rows and 5 colums to make a sheet of 20 tags.

2) I made mine say:
An Original
My Mommy
Made This
Design ♥

2) Copy and paste into each cell then center it inside each one.

3) Using Hanes t-shirt maker iron-on paper, print out the page. Remember to go into your printer settings and turn on mirror image.

4) Print page.

5) I cut a piece of scrap fabric to the size of a sheet of paper. I trimmed my printed iron-on page down leaving 1/2" around the outer lines.

6) I applied the iron-on page to the piece of fabric following the iron-on paper instructions.

7) Using pinking shears, I cut out the tags along the lines.

8) To apply the tag to the garment, I laid the tag down on the back seam, and using a regular straight stitch, I sewed in a square pattern along the outer edges of the tag.

We're home!!!!!!!!!!! Not that I was happy to leave FL, but I sure am glad to be home! I won't take up a bunch of space with tons of pics, I'll save those for my TR. But, these are just for you guys!

And this one because this was the sweetest FG ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the morning of 12/4, dd2 woke up and said to me "I want to see Fairy Godmother today". When we were waiting for the girls' appts at the boutique, dh had dd2 on Dumbo when we realized FG was out. We waited to see her and she had to go before dd2 could get there. I was about to cry. She knew I was waiting for dd2, so she hid under Tinkerbell's Treasures to wait for her! As soon as dd2 saw FG, she broke into the fastest run I've ever seen her attempt! It was priceless!

I decided to jump on the bandwagon, and make some I-Spy bags. The girls have never seen anything like it before, and they helped gather up the hidden items inside. I think the only thing I would do differently, is use something lighter than rice, like plastic beads....

okay, I'm not sure i understand the point of these bags. Is it to just squish the stuff around so you can find things "hidden" inside? Like a game? I've never seen them before. I thought of those plastic doll beads, but they can be pretty heavy. And there are alot of cute buttons, is that the type of stuff you could put inside?

We went around the house and found little things from their toy boxes, like little pirate maps, treasure chest, polly pocket stuff, anything tiny. Then you make a list of what is in each bag, so the child can see if they can find everything on the list. My girls haven't stopped playing with theirs since last night..

I have collected my things for the i spy bag i will be making. I have these things (that I can rember);
a penny, a barbie shoe, a feather, a smiley face bead, a Mickey button, a polly pocket purse, a AAA battery, a piece of wrapped hard candy, a scrabble letter A, a chuck e cheese ticket, a christmas light bulb (tiny, used for gift wrap - not glass), a butterfly charm (from a broken necklace), a rubber band, a safety pin, a paper clip, a diary key for lil kids, ....

I have much more, but just cna't remember right now.

I feel like I did my good deed for the week!
th_IMG_0165.jpg
Very good deed of the day I'd say!!!! It really came out cute and I know the little girl will love wearing it!!!

Hello?!?! Anyone out there??! Seriously, only 4 posts in the last 3 hours? I hope everyone is having fun sewing, or surviving shopping!! Thanks to everyone who helped with the Abby Cadabby cliip art, I think I found something that might work.
I have been cut off from sewing so I am mostly lurking still :guilty: But I am glad you found your clip art...can't wait to see it all done!!!

And here is a tree picture. I can't figure out how to take a photo of it with the lights on...so here is the best one, and yes, it really is as tall as it looks.

Gosh Tom you and your family are in my prayers. I went through the same thing with my mom when we moved her to Colorado (to be near my sister). My brother and I had to clean and sell an entire 4 bdrm home :scared:

Just because there's been so little going on here lately & I've been spending my time decorating for Christmas instead of sewing, I thought I'd post my trees. Enjoy or ignore, as you please.

th_2007_12080112.jpg

The living has no place for a big tree so it gets a little one & since I can put it up higher, I got to use some of my special ornaments.

th_2007_12080111.jpg

DD4's tree in her room. Very Barbie, with 1 Disney princess ornament.

th_2007_12080109.jpg

DD1's tree in her room. Yes, those ARE Mickey paint chips from Home Depot, how'd you guess?? She's a bit obsessed with Mickey & could think of nothing better (or cheaper) to put on her tree.

th_2007_12080106.jpg
Wow I just love all of your trees!!!!! Very creative solutions...especially the paint chips :rotfl2:

CONGRATULATIONS, TERESAJOY!!! YOU HAVE 1,000 POSTS ON OUR THREAD!!!

There is a website jiffy.com where we bought shirts for tie dyeing, they sell all different sizes and brands. I think they are better then the ones they sell at target or walmart. And the shipping was SUPER FAST!!! Like 1 day fast. And they don't just sell shirts they sell other stuff like bibs and aprons.

And Tom Sorry to hear about your Mom-:grouphug:

Teresa- -WOW- 1,000- :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I thought that I would try to make a quick little outfit for Princess to wear to school tomorrow. They are having candid photo day for the yearbook, so I thought, "Why not?'.

Little swing top with matching hair bow. She has a pair of brown velour pants that will look good with this.
j1002.jpg

Also, for our Anniversay, my wife bought this for my sewing room. It is a 5 ft. long desk, with a thick tempered glass top. The best part was she got it on clearance for $40. I am going to get a fluorescent under cabinet light and slip it under the glass to use as a light box. Now I have a place to lay out my fabric and pin the patterns to it. I used to use the ironing board. Not very convenient.;) Especially when you pin the pattern and fabric to the ironing board cover!:goodvibes

j1004.jpg

Also, storage underneath for my extra sewing machines, and other "stuff".
