Does anyone have any info or input on the serger JoAnn will have on sale Friday? It is the Singer Finishing Touch 14SH654 - 3 or 4 thread capacity - for $179.00. Is this a good serger for a beginner - and is this a good price?

Thought I would share my latest creation! I wanted something that was a winter theme - but not Christmas so she could wear this one longer. This pattern doesn't come in her size so I had to make some adjustments - but it turned out pretty cute. Thanks for looking! :)

I am KICKING myself for not buying that fabric now! I had it in my cart, and decided at the last second not to get it! I KNEW this would happen! Will you share what pattern you used? I LOVE that outfit!

Maggi I love what you made, but must say I'm especially fond of this skirt.

I'm in the market for a new Sewing Machine, so you say you like your Brother cs6000? Now here's a dumb question, I've been out of sewing for about 12 years, what is a ruffler footer? and what is ycmt?

Thanks!

Well, as for the machine, I will say, I think it is smarter than I am. :) I do like it, it does alot more things that I use it for right now....maybe one of these days I'll get fancy with it! I'm still getting used to it, I had a New Home that I used to quilt on that's about 15 years old.

A ruffler foot is an added attachment and I have to say..if you have girls, this thing is a must! It will ruffle your fabric anywhere from small gather to a full blown deep pleat. I even went to far as to attach the piece to ruffle to the bottom of my skirt so I ruffled and attached all in one step. I was livin' large!!!   I did have to work on the tension a bit, but after I figured it out, it was great. It saves so much time! I got mine at Hancock's...the Brother cs6000i is a low shank machine (big thanks to everyone that told me that!!) and that's all you have to look for. Ycmt is Youcanmakethis.com and it has a free ruffler how-to sheet (when you sign up for their newsletter) that really helped me out figuring out how to make it work. They also have a lot of online patterns and craft ideas.

Good luck!!!

Maggi

Thanks so much! I know what you mean though - I had this fabric in my cart a few times before I actually bought it too! The pattern I used was Simplicity New Look #6689. It only comes in one set of sizes from 1/2 to 4. My daughter is a small 6 and I was able to adjust it for her.

A few answers about the petti pic with Santa that I posted yesterday.
Here is the petti with her standing. This was back in September - it was part of her costum for the MNSSHP.
petti2.jpg

and again here with Santa
LVTX_11-17-2007_0137_1.jpg

I didn't make this petti - I purchased this one. I've got the fabric to make one, and I've just not gotten around to it yet. Need to get on it.

Someone commented (Heather of Teresa?) that they thought it was the first time they had seen a pic of my son. That's probably true. He commented to me once "mom, you do this sewing thing really good! I wouldn't mindif you sewed for me like you do for AbbyGrace, but I don't want ABC overalls!" So, there you have it! I don't sew much for him, and for that reason don't post many pics of him. He is in my avatar pic (as if you could actually SEE that!)

About the I Spy bags - that is a genius idea! I think I need to make a couple of these for my kids. And maybe soon. It looks like we'll be taking a road trip for a family funeral in the next couple of days. They may come in handy.

WOW - that petti is so gorgeous! Where did you get it? You know - I have only made a handful of things for Noah - a fleece vest, some pj's, etc - but I made him a pirate mickey T - that boy was so proud, and told everyone his mommy made it! Melt my heart! I need to think of more things I can make for my almost 8 year old boy!

dd5 goes to a private kinder program. All she's allowed to wear with her school shirt (navy, because she won't wear the red one) is jeans in any form and khaki's in any form. Because she is such a princess, she'll only wear a jean skort or jean skirt. I thought this might be fun for her to wear for the holiday. Boring, I know, but trust me...it's more exciting than the same five jean skirts we've been wearing!!

th_IMG_0033.jpg

th_IMG_0035.jpg

I made two of these, one for each girl. The only difference is that the shirts have different dogs on them.

And after all that, these children of mine have informed me that they don't really like the twirl skirts. They tried to be nice about it, but I'm so sad. Dh says they're just too old for that sort of thing. I'm not mad at them, but I'm so totally bummed, it seems like I've wasted an entire week of sewing and who KNOWS how much planning, for nothing. They both said they'd probably like some deco jeans or capris. Sigh. I just don't think they'll want to wear them every day at Disney and how do I decide what to make...jeans or capris? I can look at the weather a few days before we leave to decide what to pack, but I can't wait that long to decide what to MAKE.

On the up side, they did like the socks and pony tail doobers I made them...

I'm off to find something a little more grownup for the girls to wear. Whatever that may be!!

Thanks for reading!

Maggi

((HUGS)) Maggi - your skirts look great - and I LOVE the beaded pony holder, I may have to try that! How old are your girls?

I always love looking at this thread! I need to get sewing again. We're still moving in so it's hard to take the time to sew (I have no real space to do it). Here's the dress I made for Ilana's first birthday thanks to the inspiration and idea from one of the mom's here. I think I did a pretty good job if I can say so myself. :lmao:

Ok, my 2nd jambo cup of java has me ready to comment on my weekend lurking!

RevRob- dd, "abby" is beautiful!! I looove her Pirate petti!!

SweetnSassy- your polymer clay creations amaze me!.

tnmom25- My heart swelled at how much you clearly love your kids & yes Riley is a doll!! All this talk lately has me missing my parents also! (Mom went home to heaven in 2004 & Dad remarried/abandoned his family, he died when she got sick in alot of ways) I sometimes get sad that my boy's only living grandparents (DH's folks) live clear in PA & don't have much to do with them at all. Can I adopt you & Nana (the other disboutiquer) as my kid's grandma's?!:goodvibes

sahm000-I am also in the later potty training category. My ds (3) will act totally trained at preschool, going in the potty & staying dry. When he's at home he also "is to distracted by playing to go". I keep asking him if it's our potty here or what? His teachers say it's probably peer pressure at school that enables him to go!:confused3

camelotcats-I'm praying for your MIL's upcoming visit & the trials endured.

spongemommie- I've been thinking & praying for you & the hip! This time last year I broke a toe falling over ds's trucks!!

Weloveprincesses- I'm sorry that your dd's don't like your fabulous creations. After making the KaChow! shirts for my ds's this weekend my oldest (autism) doesn't want to where it because "it's too scratchy" (he has sensory issues). That made me want to cry! Partly because I didn't think of that & partly because of the work it took to make it. Oh, I'm also askeered of the peasant tops & desperately want to make my niece one!!

disneymomej & Utah Mama- you both gave me lots of ideas for Eye Spy bags! But I'm still searching & thinking what to use for a boy's Eye Spy? We have a million matchbox cars, but that wouldn't be much of a challenge?
I have to warn you guys, if you have extremely rough kids, to be careful about double or triple encasing the insides fo the i-spy pillows. I had made a few I-Spy pillows for my kids, and DD who was 2 at the time, TORE HERS OPEN on a plane flight from NY to AZ.
My boys have ripped open "hidden zippers" on more than one bean bag & couch cushions, looking to create "snow" here in TX!!!! :scared1: This is what askeers me about the Eye Spy bags in a way!

AND....these are my favorite one liner's that made me chuckle deep down!!!

I will not apologize for the falling down ponytail hair!:rotfl: Nor for my messy living room!:rotfl2: You know how dangerous cleaning is[/IMG]

yeah, that is the outfit she made Corey when he was 1, and here he wearing it at 15.
:rotfl: :rotfl:

I have a cool ruffler but I am making it hard on myself trying to learn how to use it. The instructions are interpreted from swaheelee to broken english. It's a little torture devise looking thingy!!
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I thought this also when looking at them at Hancocks!!!

Thank you for explaining the ruffler foot (I have a dd(almost 5) who is totally into ruffles and frilly clothes).

I have to say that sounds quite amazing. I remember doing gathers by hand.

And Bob seemed to like his Christmas bandana dd9 and I whipped up

Oooo, I forgot this the best! It made me remember I can't forget to make my Sydney a Chistmas bandana! Here's the one she wore last year....
XmasDogBandana.jpg

I love these Christmas fabrics!!! I am also in search of some non-traditional Christmas prints & the key is nothing with snow (because we're in TX & niece is in So. CA!!). This is the combo I found at JoAnn's yesterday:

I want to do matching outfits kinda like this, but with the Christmas "moose" focused:

OY, What have I done?
We went to the mall this morning to see Santa. We wandered into the Hallmark store-it SEEMED harmless enough :lmao: Next thing I know my DD has a Webkinz. Someone one PLEASE tell me this is not going to be that bad. (I still have Beanie Baby nightmares)

CastleCreations, It was your skirt that gave me the inspiration for the AK skirt (that I just made today and will probably never get seen by anyone else outside of this board), and I just wanted to say thanks! I don't know what policy is on ideas and casing, but I've loved that skirt from the minute I saw it. No way can I make that totally cool shirt that you made though. If we decide to take it with us, dd5 will have to be happy with a zebra or cheetah print Mickey head...:)

Also, yes, I am slow. I just realized this week that I bought some fabric (green mickey head swirl) from you (:wizard:) several weeks ago. I finally put two and two together and figured it out. Durrr.....

Maggi

Too...funny...I will have to place you under arrest for a serious violation of CASEing....:rotfl: I'm so pleased that it gave you inspiration to do one for your daughter. I really wished that I could have used the Mickey fabric, but I just didn't know what to do with it, and believe me...you don't want to see what I TRIED to do...:rotfl:

On NO!! boy did you open up a HUGE Can of Worms!!! Ireland received her first one last week and she hasn't set it down yet. She is forever asking me to get on the computer and feed her reindeer and play the games...
The website is too cute and I find myself going there and just looking around...have fun, and be prepared to never use your computer again..:lmao:

She might get tired of it eventually! My dd8 still loves hers from Easter and she gets online almost everyday to play. My other girls dd7 & dd16 only once a week or so. The games on the website are semi-educational and helps them at least learn computer skills. Good luck!

Nice job, Jennifer! She's a cutie!

Absolutely!!!! I'd love some more boys, the estrogen levels in this house could challenge even the most intelligent and sophisticated piece of NASA equipment!! :lmao:

money, buttons, erasers (I like the shaped ones that are no good for erasing, but great for this! I think you can buy them in party supply areas at WM) photo tiles (once Alix gratiously posts her directions for us :)), just to name a few.

Oh yeah, I don't know what happened to that post, but I like the Christmas Moose idea!
