Did she just sayed it SNOWED most of the day!!!!! :scared1: NOOOOOOOO!!!! Not yet we haven't even been to the pumpkin patch yet!!!!! Where did it snow already- are you in the mountains???- Please tell me you live in a high elevation where it snows year round!!

On a lighter, more on topic note- You guys have inspired me!! I have finally broken down and dusted off my sewing machine :yay: I will now attempt to sew an article of clothing- a feat never done before- I've only made blankets and stuff. So here I go. I will definetly need some practicing!!! Wish me luck!!

YEE-HAW!!! We've got another convert!:woohoo: I'm seriously reallly excited for you!   I can't wait to see what you come up with! I've only been sewing for a couple of months now, after being inspired by this wonderful thread!

Could you post a picture of the back of this dress/top? Thanks.

Well i've taken a look at my fabric stash and I have some quilt squares so I think I will attempt to make a little patch skirt for DD- I don't have a pattern but I have read the Formulas so I will give it a try. I also have a bunch of christmas/snowman fabric so I think I will focus on finding some cute things for this winter to make since it will probably take me that long to get a nice looking outfit put together. I've also been looking at all the kids clothes thinking about what I can no-sew customize, got a few ideas but now I will be running a little short on time- we are leaving 1 month from today :woohoo:

I got my model to cooperate, somewhat. So, here's what I've been working on for the last week or 2 (I can't figure out how some of you whip them up so quickly)!

I KNOW! It snowed and stuck to the ground (about 2 inches). The kids even made a snowman. Today the weather was back to fall and about 65 degrees, so it was rather odd to see the unmelted snowman parts sitting on the green lawn. I live in Utah, where the old saying applies "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes". I'm not in the mountains either, but am in the foothills at about 4,700 ft. elevation I think. What are you going to sew for your first project? Good luck! Can't wait to see it!

OK, I have been back for close to a week and will never get caught up on this thread...since it was on page 960 when I left! I need to upload my pictures to share some from the trip. We got alot of attention from DD's outfits, I am so glad I spent the time to do them. Thanks to everyone here for the inspiration.

Now I am on to thinking about Halloween....

Not Disney, but My latest creation...

This one went to my neice. So it's back to the sewing machine to make another one for DD.

I forgot the whiskers, but the pants were already stitched back up by the time I realized this. Oh well! Hello Kitty was actually easier thean the pre-made princess panels! It's not purrfect but not bad either!

I love this! Where did the fabric come from? I have to have it!!

I am also starting to think about Christmas outfits for myself and DD. I usually get coordinated family stuff from Gymboree, but this year I am pregnant (and will close to 8 months by then) and will certainly not fit into the largest mommy size they carry. Any ideas for me? Maybe a top for me that can be adapted into a dress for DD?

Could you post a picture of the back of this dress/top? Thanks.

Sure but it'll be a while. Kids are home from school, have to take DD to piano, and my computer takes it's time to upload, but I'm happy to do it if you don't mind waiting.

Okay, I read this after my last post to you. The patch skirt I made wasn't too difficult, but it did take time. I love how it turned out though! I hear you on the Christmas thing. I just found some fabric I love today so I'm about to get ready for Christmas skirts!

Hey Ladies,

I have been reading your thread for probably the last 100 pages and today I decided to jump in and post.

I have a 2 year old princess who loves to dress girly and all things Disney. I went to Wal-Mart and was able to find the Minnie polka dot fabric today. Bought all of one roll and about to kick myself that I didn't buy the other one.

So now I have the fabric, but am in serious need of ideas. I would like to make my daughter a cute outfit with the material, but I am fairly new to sewing. Anyone have some simple patterns or ideas that I can start with?

Thanks.

Congrats!! You will have so much fun and spend so much money! LOL

Anyway, in the very first post are links to a photobucket gallery of everything here and Teresajoy's personal bookmarks. Look for a pillowcase dress. It is a great thing to practice on. Sundresses are also great. Look for something that does not have a zipper.

There is a website called youcanmakethis.com They are pdf'd patterns. They are around $10 and have great instructions and photographs. Good luck!!!

Here is what I accomplished due to the fact that it snowed most of the day Saturday (no yardwork, cancelled soccer games, too cold to go outside etc.) And I did it all without leaving the house. I bought some patterns on YCMT and had the fabric in my stash. I only had one pack of Mickey head scrapbook buttons though, so I thought I'd just stick a yellow one on there until I got back to the store for another set, but now the mismatched look is starting to grow on me. The mini buttons worked perfect for the matching doll outfit. Unfortunately that is her sister's doll. I'm thinking Santa may have to bring her her own Bitty Baby. I took her on errands today and she got a LOT of attention, so I'm wondering if it might be a bit too much. One lady in line at Walmart asked if I made it for her and I said "yes" and she said "I knew you were a good mother!" :confused3 :rotfl:

At least I got her to look at the camera! She never holds still. I took the first picture and she yelled "TA DAH!"

Your outfit is really nice. I love the princess and polka dot combo. I like the bitty baby outfit. Santa is bringing one to our house too.

I do have to say even though the outfit is cute your DD is adorable!!!! What a cutie pie.

hi aimeeg!!

i did a pillowcase dress as my first thing, it was soooooo easy, and the girls got comments on the simple dress - give it a try!!!!

now i want to try a twirl skirt, still working up the nerve - got some fabric today, but just dont understand the whole ruffler foot thing!!!!

here is hannah in her minnie pillowcase dress!! the black minnie head, is actually one those patches that you can iron on to mend jeans and stuff, then i made a little polkadot bow and just hand stitched it on - the ruffle at the bottom was bought premade off a bolt at walmart and the rickrack was in a package - all simple!!!

You did a fantastic job!!! All of the kids look adorable. The twirl skirts are so much fun to wear it will be well worth the effort! Thanks for posting you pics. I am sure you girls loved their dresses.

What kind of fabric did you buy???

Any other knitters out there? I taught myself to knit last Oct. and I started a local knitting group in Jan. I love it! Anyone here on Ravelry? It is a new knitting community site and very very cool!
<-----------see my knit socks. 8)

I just got back from DL and so far behind on these threads!

I just learned how to knit and I tought myself to crochet before our trip to make a pirate hat for DD. I will post pics of that soon, we just got back and I am pooped!

I will have to check out the website above, do they do crochet as well?

hi -

i bought the minnie dots from walmart!!

i dont know if i should do the twirl skirt in patches or just the 3 "levels"....i got my halloween fabric from walmart too - i was at joann's today too, but even at 40% off 7.99, i just had to go back to walmart for the fabric lol - that way if i ruin it, it will only hurt a little but!!! lol!!!

If you want to start off easy, the 3 tiers is the way to go, it's just as twirly as the patches! And it is waaaaaay faster to do. Love the patches though.

hey -

has anyone made a twirl skirt (tier and or patches) that would be willing to share their measurements for a size 2, 4, and 6??????? i am sooooo not a math guru!!! i was reading all the patterns and yikes!!!

so am i right to say that the reason you make each layer longer is to give the ruffle foot enough to ruffle????? i dont need to do gathers if i have the ruffle foot, right? what settings do you put your ruffler foot and machine on? the foot came with like 0 instructions!!!!!

thanks so much!!!
