Wow those are great directions! Thanks. I think I might try to applique today! I will post if I do...:scared1: After a little practice I am wanting to do some on the babies onesies, do I need to do anything different?
I think you will need stabilizer to use behind the onesie. (on the inside?!) I've only appliqued onto denim, so i don't know how it works!

Yay! I did it! Now that I finally reached 10 posts (it only took 8 months) I can post photos. As I mentioned before I have been lurking for a while and loving all of your wonderful ideas. Here are the minnie dot outfits I CASEd (what does that stand for anyway?) for my DD10 and DD2 (and Dneice not in photo).

Those look great! CASE stands for Copy And Steal Everything!

LOL that is awesome, my hair was never that Rad!
These are cute, they are NICE jammies. You almost could wear them out, adorable.

Great job! Glad you can finally post some pics. CASE = Copy And Steal Everything (I think, right?)

I graduated in '92 no way I would ever go to a reunion. I had the misfortune of having to be around those people with no choice I wouldn't choose to now. :rotfl: People always recognize me though because, I basically look the same from the time I was about 13 (just more gray hair and wrinkles) I usually have no idea who they are though, so I just have to pretend I do. LOL LOL My good friends I still talk to from time to time.

Question: anyone have any bright ideas as to what to do with this
cm241.jpg

It is a bandana and I bought two of them thinking of making pants for Ds but, I don't think they really work for that because of the placement of things.

I am getting ready to make my first applique overalls. They will be pumpkin and leaves for Ds. I even bought the really nice sulky (sp?) thread. ooooooooo ;)

I use tear away stabilizer on the back. It makes stitching around the edges much easier on the t shirt or onesie. Otherwise your applique will be puckered(is that a word?) around the edges.

Also, for the fusible web I use Heat n Bond lite. I think some others have used wonder under. But what ever you do Make sure you DO NOT use Heat N bond Ultra. The Ultra stuff gunks up your needle.

The easiest applique I have done is a little square patch.

Okay, thanks for the help teresajoy, I will now attempt to post my first photo (of DD10 in her Pooh jammies)

These are adorable. Did you use a pattern for your older DD's top, if so what number was it? It is very cute. Your little DD2 is adorable!

You are not left out. I am also a '97 grad. So is DH, we are another set of high school sweet hearts.... Well does it still count as high school sweet hearts if he dumps you before college and come groveling back when he realizes he let the best thing he ever had go??? :lmao:

I think it counts. But atleast you always have that in your pocket. that he almost let you get away. I love black mail. but only when it comes to dh.:lmao:

Wait, I think I'm pretty much the oldest having graduated in '85. I'm at least in the top 10 % of elderly subscribers.

I'm right behind you! I'm class of '86! ;)

I did see the glow in the dark thread -- that's cool. I haven't used it though but it would be awesome for Halloween costumes.

I really need to get started on my kids costumes but I'm procrastinating again as usual.

I also found out I'm hosting Thanksgiving so am trying to think of something to spruce up the house & basically show off my new hobby. :lmao: I was thinking tablecloth & napkins but I'm not sure.

Thanks everyone for all your nice comments! Someday I may even get some photos of my boys up. All I've made for them so far is PJs which I'm sure are now dirty and stuffed under the bed or in the closet. For my older DD's top I used Simplicity 4208 which is a "That's so Raven" design.

Here is my first attempt at sewing in 8 years (don't look too close) non-Disney though. I'm practicing re-sizing photos now.

CLASS OF "87" ROCKS DUDE!!!!!

I think you mean CLASS OF "92" ROCKS Although, I suppose my big sister was pretty cool and I spent a lot of time looking through her yearbook wishing I was super-cool, too.

Oh my gosh, he is SOOO cute and the outfit is great!!

Did you buy those Mickey appliques? If not, how did you applique them without having them attached to the fabric? I would like to be able to make the applique and THEN sew it onto the shirt!

I graduated in 87 too. My dh graduated in 85. We met on the school bus.
That is so sweet! I met my husband at the mall when we were 15 (if you feel you must read the story, there's a link to it in my website in my siggy).

Yes. . I was and the dress was beautiful. . . just everyone else that is going is wearing little black dresses and I will stick out MAJOR (and the "girls" too) if I wear that little red number!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Teresa is wearing a RED dress to the reunion. I can't stress how gorgeous she looks in it!!

CUTE! Love the redondo skirt!

Thanks for posting your pics!! You guys are so darn cute!

Now, to also keep the thread on topic, I took some beautiful Sleeping Beauty pictures yesterday complete with Aurora-hair and lip gloss and her holding a rose...only to discover the card was out of the camera!!! Don't ask ME how I missed the little-card-with-a-slash-through-it icon blinking as I posed my dd3 in a multitude of Aurora-ish poses:confused3 Must be my old eyes again :rolleyes1
I'm beginning to suspect this "Aurora outfit" doesn't actually exist... If there were a suspicious smiley, it would be right here -->

Class of '91!! Missed my 10 year too. I was on my honeymoon in Aruba! I don't remember what our class song was, but our colors were Irridesant (SP?) white and Irridesant clear!! :confused3 Not sure who (or why they) picked those "colors"!
:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: Iridescent and they change colors!

Oh ya???? Well was YOUR hair ever this cool? I am wearing an angora sweater and jogging shorts with pearls. And about a full can of Aqua Net for my Miss America hair. Look at my braces....and my youthful non-wrinkled skin!

th_Wendy1985.jpg
I could only wish that my hair was ever that cool! I'm going to guess terrycloth as to what fabric the jogging shorts were. If I can find a lovely family photo of Teresa, me, and our brother, David, circa 1984 or so, I will post it!

Okay, thanks for the help teresajoy, I will now attempt to post my first photo (of DD10 in her Pooh jammies)

GREAT job on these outfits! Your DDs are SOOO cute, too!!

I've got a question for you all (I'm not southern. So, I can't in good conscience write y'all).

I HATE my username. I really hate it!! I mean, how exactly do you pronounce hkite? It sounds like you're trying to hack up a lugey, right? I really want it to be Heathersue. But, I don't want to lose my "status" of nearly 200 posts! Is there any way to change my username? Anyone know? Please, please, help me! I don't want to be the coughing up phlegm girl anymore!

BTW, my sister is a big fraud. That's right, a FRAUD! Her name is NOT Teresa Joy. It is Teresa Joyce! Perhaps she wanted to come across as being more joyful than she really is?? That's right, Teresajoyce, I finally called you out. :wave2:

yes, it's a little large on the baby, but our trip isn't until January

Awesome job! Your girls are beautiful! It took me about that long just to figure out how post pictures so congrats!

I am getting ready to try another applique and I want to make sure I understand what you guys are talking about...are the tear away stabilizers and the stitch witchery (wonder under, etc.) two different things? Or are they the same thing? Thanks for any help!

Here's a little something I just whipped up completely stress-free. In fact, I didn't even use a pattern  One of those cinchy 1 hour jobs. No seam ripper, either.

DSC00327.jpg

You cant see the shoulder straps, but there's little garter-belt looking roses :cutie:

And, it is not hemmed. I can't figure out how to hem a CIRCLE! Is that what the horse-hair braid is for?

Misty's gonna take a pic of the Aurora dress I just "whipped up" :sad2:

I found a white eyelet peasant top for Norah at a thrift store last night for $1.00. It had a yucky worn out ribbon around it and I just removed the old ribbon and am replacing it with a pretty pink ribbon. OMGosh! For a buck, I just completed a cute little "extra" outfit (we need extra outfits, right preschooler mamas?)

I also found a cute little hawaiin print dress that is too big, but I can take it in for her to wear to Ohana :cutie: That should keep me pretty busy when I should be packing!

I love thrift store bargains!!!!!!

I    our thrift store!!!! You never know what you're gonna find!!!

I'm with Teresa, I'm also guessing silky shorts! And I agree with Heather, I'm not sure I'm convinced there is an Aurora dress!!!!!!

Okay, thanks for the help teresajoy, I will now attempt to post my first photo (of DD10 in her Pooh jammies)

They look adorable!! I love that top on your dd10, I think I might have that pattern. I wrote it down and I'm gonna check when I get back to the sewing room!

Trace EACH of the pattern pieces onto fusible web - I hold the patter and fusible web up to a window and trace it there. For Cinderell you would trace her hair, headband, face shape, eyes, etc. Cut them slightly bigger so when you piece them together they overlap.

Cut out your fusible web pattern pieces. Iron the web to the BACK side of the fabrics you are using. Cut the now fused pattern pieces out of the fabric. Peel of the paper backing.

Layer your fabric pieces onto your base fabric, (the shirt or whatever the applique will go on.) ironing (attaching) each layer as you go. For Cinderella start with the face shape, then her hair, headband, etc.

For the actual stitching use a zig-zag stitch (I guess it is also called a satin stitch :confused3 ) set at the lowest setting (on my machine it is set a 0). Go slow and take your time, making sure you stitch over all of the edges of all of the pieces! A good first applique to attempt is the mickey head - no pieces to layer!! (also in the boomark pages.)

I hope this helps - I am in no way as good as some of these ladies, I've only done a few appliques so far. But when I did my first one I wished there were some detailed insructions too! Hope this helps. If I missed something, or am wrong on anything, I'm sure someone will be along to correct me and help you!

I just wanted to add a couple of things to Leslie's list...

When doing letters or anything that matters - make sure you trace them backwards onto your fusible web paper.

I bought a pressing sheet and I use it to layer my pieces and iron them together before actually putting them onto your project. That way, you can get them lined up exactly where you want them. Once you put them onto your project fabric, it's really hard to move them then.

Also, when appliquing something black or very dark, make sure you use dark bobbin thread. I learned this lesson today while making Jasmine!! I can't wait to share this one!!!

Wow those are great directions! Thanks. I think I might try to applique today! I will post if I do...:scared1: After a little practice I am wanting to do some on the babies onesies, do I need to do anything different?

For tshirts I followed suggestions by several on here and bought Sulky iron-on stabilizer and it's wonderful!!!!!! I've not used anything else, but I don't think I will try after using this stuff, it really is great!

Question: anyone have any bright ideas as to what to do with this

As for that bandana, I don't think I could bring myself to cut it up!! That's way too cute! But then again, it took me over a month to cut my Minnie dot!!!

Good luck on your overalls!

I am definitely a southern girl (originally from Alabama and now live in Atlanta) and I can say y'all.

Y'all crack me up! The banter between you and your sister could keep me laughing forever!!!!!!!!
