Okay guys this is off topic, :offtopic: but I need help with a reward for my oldest dd. She has stepped in and taken up the slack for me this past year while I have been ill. She has been super responsible and I couldn’t have made it through without her help. The kicker to all of this is that Saturday I was having a horrible day and I couldn’t seem to function at all. I wanted to sew but I couldn’t and then I tried to get on here, but that wasn’t great either. She knew I wanted to get more items finished and that I was disappointed in myself for not being able to. So without a word, she came and set down in front of me with all this stuff and started to massage my feet and then gave me a pedicure with polish! :sad1:

The question is, what do I do for her to let her know how much I appreciate her? I thought about a pedicure for her at WDW while we are there. Is that a good reward, or is it too much, or not enough? I would like to surprise her at WDW, but I don’t know what to do. :confused3 BTW, she is 12 years old. Thanks guys, Cassandra

What a fantastic daughter you have! Your little story made me cry. How unselfish of her. It is a wonderful reflection on you--what a selfless, giving mother you must be :flower3:
I think the idea you have for a pedicure is a great one, or how about the BBB?
Or, just spend some alone time with her at WDW...go get a pedicure ttogether. Maybe Set out a special card or note for her to find while there and tell her how wonderful she is. Then, take a walk and just "end up" at the Spa to get the pedi together???....Hmm....I will see if I can think of something else.

ETA- I just read someone else's idea (I hadn't caught up yet....) Seems we were both thinking similar things. How about give her a card, with some special polish (like other poster suggested). Tell her that you two can go take a walk together, just the 2 of you and find the most special place to give each other a pedicure with the polish. So, she thinks she's going on a hunt with you for the perfect place. Then, you "just happen" to end up at the Spa.
Just an idea..........

Have fun!!

Hi All!
I have been away from the computer most of the day - I need to play catch up! Sorry for all the pics - but I had to share. The first two are of DD two years ago when she donated her hair to Locks of Love - the next three are from today when she had another 11 inches cut to donate. This is the shortest it has ever been - and was a little bittersweet for both of us!

That's one special girl you got there Mama for her to do this for other people!! Tell her the Dis is proud of her!!!

BTW - how long does it take her to grow out her hair long enough for Locks Of Love!

Here are a couple outfits for our trip. I can't take the credit - MIL made them, but I thought they were cute.

Awesome!! I can't wait to see the pics of her WITH Minnie!! Your little doll has quite the wardrobe going for this trip, doesn't she!?

I too have been looking for yellow polka dot. I found some with the gingham at Jo Ann's. I am making DD a sock monkey dress for the first day of school. I have everything cut out so I should go take a pic of the pieces.

I got my Robert Kauffman yellow polka dot (bright Minnie-ish yellow) on eBay. I simply searched yellow dot fabric and found it.

Not clothes, but here is a pillowcase we made for character autographs on our cruise. I'm planning on having them sign on the yellow part with a black marker. I thought it would make a cute souvenir for DD. Her name is on the other side in the same Disney font.

AWESOME idea. Love it!

I know it's just a simple applique, but the stitching is perfect! What kind of machine does your MIL use?

I think this is a great idea! The pedicure that I got at Saratoga Springs was the best pedicure I've ever gotten. Will you get one with her?

OK. I've gone and done it. I'm the proud owner of a new Singer serger. I can't believe I did it. My hands are shaking just thinking about it. I'm going in (my craft room). I'm not coming out until I've sewn/serged? a scrap of something together. I'm going in. If you don't hear from me in a few days, send someone to get me! HELP!

Congratulations!!! Enjoy!

Here are the projects I got started AND finished yesterday. I am mildly pleased. The knee socks are my favorite. I used the scrapbooking Mickey button heads. Removed the sticky stuff, and hand sewed them to knee socks. I don't care for My Little Pony in general, but daughter does. It was my first time using Heat n Bond, and cutting out the letter. Pretty simple. About midway through sewing, I realized how stinking big the dress is. Not sure what measurements I was using?? :confused3 Anyway she loves it. It will fit her perfectly when she is probably ten. :lmao: And I wish I was being funny when I said that! I didn't even try it on her it's that big. DH said she can wear it as a nightgown. The last picture is my version of the Waldamort dress. It's pretty cute. All I did was add rickrack and an old Mickey head someone sold me. I think it was cut out from a sweatshirt. It's the first time I used E6000. I do think you can glue the kitchen table down with this stuff! Although I used a lot. Do most of you just dab around the corners when you use this? I spread it over the entire back of the applique. I do think the fumes were affecting me. Maybe this is why the Pony outfit is so huge?? So all in all, not a bad day. I sewed , I put buttons on, I ironed, I used Heat N Bond for first time, and used E 6000 for first time. I also cut out material to sew a jumper dress, but then DH and keds and their friends all came home. And of course they were hungry so....I was done.

Your daughter looks adorable. She and you should be so proud. Such young beautiful healthy hair will add to so many smiles I can assure you! I donated to locks of love myself about 3 years ago! I used to work with cancer patients, and trust me, they rally want to look decent. When they have a nice wig (one girl had a wig that came with a baseball hat attached, the long hair was pulled through the back opening like it was a pony tail. She loved it!) they just "Light Up." Your daughter did a truly wonderful thing:banana:

oh that would be interesting. yeah it was kind of implied they wanted me to make them one. Which I do nto mind, but don't want to start a trend!

I guess the day I list this week I could hand them a buisness card and let them know where to find the dress. I guess that would be ok. Want them to like us. I would hate for them not to and something happen to the house when we are not home and they ignore because they don' like us.
I will do that then, just be firm and say no, but if they ask how much, I should maybe cut them a break to be neighborly:love:
lori

So are you going to make the dress and put it on Voldemort? Because if you do, one of us (me me me) might win instead of them.:rolleyes1 I do like the idea of telling them that you sell on ebay, it's how you make your living, and the outfits usually go for (insert number here) but because ttey are your new neighbors you would be happy to make them one for (insert number here.) Then it puts the option back on them , and there are no hard feeling either way.

so here goes...results of my first sewing projects since home ec in jr. hr high

the looks on my girls faces made every minute worth a million bucks
the younger one said as I asked her to try it on " Mom. it's finally done !?!?" the sewing machine has been on the dining room table since last week !

older sister Britt who really liked it too

top view of one of the skirts - you can't tell well from this pic, but the grey and some of the reds are actually small prints - as always , better close up

IMG_0427.jpg

Those came out so cute and I can tell the girls love them! I really like the prints that you used, especially the gray and the black and white one on the waistband and bottom ruffle. Great job!

I'll have to find the link - it is an individual that somehow orders from the company. I'll find the link and post it (it may be tomorrow at this point - I'm about to turn in!)

Thank you! :thumbsup2

Beautiful, what an incredible thing to do. I can't believe she's done it twice! That's fantastic

By the way how do we resize pics again. I can't find directions.

I'm sure she does it out of love. You must be a terrific Mommy. Definately write it down, something about a handwritten note is just so special and then do pedicure together. Depending on how much she's helped you may want to be more elaborate. As a caregiver for a family member myself I know how much effort goes into it and lucky for her you seem to genuinely appreciate it.

Wow aren't you a busy girl.:cheer2: I managed to make some copies and messed them up. Today I go back to office depot and fix them:laughing: Next time I raise my hand to be team mom would someone kindly duct tape (or sew..haha) them to my sides. How do you get it all done?

OHHHH! I was a hairdresser before Norah was born (guess I always will be), and was active in this campaign (Locks of Love). I've seen what your dd's donation will do for the lives of little girl cancer patients. What a great blessing!!!

Plus you'll save on shampoo ;) .. She looks beautiful with her new cute bob!

Camping Griswalds - your outfits & socks are adorable. I love the Minnie head on the Waldamort dress!

Thank you! ONce I got the Minnie head, and saw some fleece still attached, it made me start hinking of all of those things that go on clearance. You know it wouldn't matter what size, 'cause you can just cut out what you want. A whole new way to shop!

Great job Griz!

I love the sock. They are fantastic! We just got some knee hights. hmmmmmmmmmm.

I totally get the pattern being to big. I have made a couple moo moos for DD. It is tought being skinny.:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Yep the socks were fun and easy. I'm now gonna go buy a pack of button flower faces I saw. I also want some COW ones to go with the outfit Castle made DD. Waldamort used to have them, but i can't find any now. The socks came in a two pack from Waldamort.

Ebay????? What's Ebay??? Never heard of it! :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Oh my gosh!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: (three minimum here for these as well)

Did you ever hear of Walmart or Target? NOPE, me neither:banana:   (three of these too!)

I think the pedicure is a great idea! My daughter is 13 and loves them. Give your sweet girl a hug from me. You are so blessed to have such a considerate daughter.

Awesome!! I can't wait to see the pics of her WITH Minnie!! Your little doll has quite the wardrobe going for this trip, doesn't she!?

Her outfits are out of control! I have a little trip planning book and I actually drew pictures of all her outfits and made a list of what days she's wearing which outfit. I told DH if I died before the trip, she has to follow the schedule on the list! :rotfl: He said "You put a lot of thought into this, don't you?" which translates to "You need to get a job"! :rolleyes1

AWESOME idea. Love it!

I know it's just a simple applique, but the stitching is perfect! What kind of machine does your MIL use?

She has a Viking Designer SE. It's a really great machine, but she just got it, so we're still trying to figure out everything it does. The font was so easy - I just downloaded it and it stitched it out. The applique is a really nice design from an eBay seller...all her designs stitch perfectly.
