I LOVE this! I might have to CASE it!
Lori

Case away. I was so happy how this turned out. Had a neighbor ask me to make this for there kids while I was taken the picture. We just moved in and that is a nice compliment from the new neighbors. but , sadly they will have to do the voldemort thing. Hate to make just one thing and then they will ask for another and whom knows where that will end. you think they might be offended if I handed them a buisness card and asked for $ for making them. maybe just materials? Or have them go to the forbidden place to buy it. ugghh dilemas. my hubby told me to make one and just take it over to them. but then what if another neighbor asks, there is a TON of kids in our new neighborhood.

My serger comes tomorrow - the Brother model and I only paid $234, no tax, no shipping on Amazon.com. I am going to have that baby smoking by tomorrow night - have always wanted one, and now I DO!

Got 7 patterns from YCMT and fabric galore...can't wait to start surging:cool1:

How do the patterns come from YCMT? It says they are a PDF file - do you just print them out? And are they a "pattern" or just instructions? TIA

some have pieces that can be printed out, but most are instructions with measurements you have to cut out. like if your DD waist is this much then cut a fabric 44 inches long by 6 inches wide etc...

I don't think it would be rude at all to ask for $$ - I think it would be rude of them to expect you to do it for free. You could make one and put a price sticker on it when you go to show it to her :rotfl:

Be careful. I try to be really nice and I had something like that happen in our last neighborhood. Unless you want to make them all a new wardrobe, just say it's how you earn your living and that they can find you on valdemort. I hope that works. Being new in the neighborhood is the toughest.

The question is, what do I do for her to let her know how much I appreciate her? I thought about a pedicure for her at WDW while we are there. Is that a good reward, or is it too much, or not enough? I would like to surprise her at WDW, but I don’t know what to do. :confused3 BTW, she is 12 years old. Thanks guys, Cassandra

That is so sweet. She sounds like a great girl! Not sure if she would like this but we just got back and got the diver at Coral Reef for DD's 14th bday. I do not see why you could not do the same thing with a special message for her as well if you guys are eating there. It is free just takes a little extra planning. I like the idea of a pedi as well. :goodvibes:

Oooh, that sounds interesting, what did he do? Did he show a special message for her while you were eating?

oh that would be interesting. yeah it was kind of implied they wanted me to make them one. Which I do nto mind, but don't want to start a trend!

I guess the day I list this week I could hand them a buisness card and let them know where to find the dress. I guess that would be ok. Want them to like us. I would hate for them not to and something happen to the house when we are not home and they ignore because they don' like us.
I will do that then, just be firm and say no, but if they ask how much, I should maybe cut them a break to be neighborly:love:

Maybe make a big deal out of how you never make a deal for anyone and say "so please don't tell anyone."...it is tough if your neighbors end up not liking someone. I saw them get really evil to one of the women who lived down our street. Then the funniest part is that the one who was evil to her became friends with her...:rotfl2:

Okay guys this is off topic, :offtopic: but I need help with a reward for my oldest dd. She has stepped in and taken up the slack for me this past year while I have been ill. She has been super responsible and I couldn’t have made it through without her help. The kicker to all of this is that Saturday I was having a horrible day and I couldn’t seem to function at all. I wanted to sew but I couldn’t and then I tried to get on here, but that wasn’t great either. She knew I wanted to get more items finished and that I was disappointed in myself for not being able to. So without a word, she came and set down in front of me with all this stuff and started to massage my feet and then gave me a pedicure with polish! :sad1:

I think that is very nice surprise. Maybe you could give her a special card as well. Sometime is nice to see those I love you's and I am so very proud of you's written down. I would surprise her with super cool nail polish and then maybe lunch. The thing she wants the most is your time.

I really want to do a sock monkey outfit for DD. Where did you find the fabric? I haven't really looked yet - but thought I would ask where to start!
Lori

Lori,

I got it a reprodepot.com. They are a really fantastic site. Their fabric is in the $7-8 range but sign up for their emails and they will send you promotions. Sock Monkey was just 20 % off. I bought mine before the sale :(

Something tells me he wouldn't mind if you woke him up:rotfl:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I wondered if I would get in trouble for that sentance! Poor guy has to get at 3:30 for work. He has new hours on his new project and they are killing him.

Although, he is a man he would get over it!

Aimee, thanks, I try to tell her how much I love her all the time, but you may be right about writing it down so that she can see it. The reason I wondered about the pedicure is that she found out they did that at the spa at WDW and mentioned how she had never had a "real" one. (I've done hers) So a card, and a pedicure with sparkly pink nail polish and lunch by ourselves...that's good...

Hi All!
I have been away from the computer most of the day - I need to play catch up! Sorry for all the pics - but I had to share. The first two are of DD two years ago when she donated her hair to Locks of Love - the next three are from today when she had another 11 inches cut to donate. This is the shortest it has ever been - and was a little bittersweet for both of us!

How sweet! I think she looks adorable with short hair and just think of all of the good she is doing!:goodvibes

Oh, I was so excited, I forgot to ask. What do you serger owners do about all of the cut off thread & fabric? It's a huge mess! Any easy solutions?

Mine has a bag that slips under the feet to catch it all. I assumed it came with it, but it was my aunt's so it may be something she bought separately. Until you get one, you could just use a WM bag and slip the feet through the handles so that it hangs down in front to catch the trimmings.

Also, I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but my serger would try to "walk" off the table, so I put some of that grippy rubber stuff under it and that worked great.

Since my Mom has my sewing machine I have been busy cutting away. I did DD's first day of school dress pattern, a halloweenie dress, and Meg!

Here is the start to Hannah's Meg costume.

Ooooh, can't wait to see Meg!

My dd8 did that a few months ago for the first time, and I had mixed emotions. I was so proud of her for doing it, but I hated to see that hair go. She looks so much older with short hair, and I'm in no hurry for that! She has a friend in her Brownie troop that had cancer, so she really has seen the need. Congrats to your daughter, to her from our family!
