This turned out super cute!! If you aren't happy with it, is there any way that you can take the side pockets off and take the sides in some and then reattach the pockets? It doesn't look bad but just a thought.

I thought about it. The problem is the top part has a lining and I think I would have to take the whole thing apart. Maybe I just need to fatten him up a little.

I am thinking to just have him wear it only for the MNSSHP (with me as 'minnie' and dh as 'goofy'). I think it may fit him next summer!

I'm not Lisa (obviously! ) but if you google "gored skirt" there are several free tutorials. I can't post links yet, but here's one that looks very clear (add the www part): patternsthatfityou.com/frskirtcl.htm

You'll just make more "gores" for a twirl skirt, but it has pictures on how to draw the panels. There are also a few for-purchase twirl skirt patterns on youcanmakethis.com if you like detailed instructions with pictures and measurements.

Gorgeous! This is the fabric that I've been fighting with about the tutu skirt. I think I'm going to make something different, can you tell me what pattern you used?

I my serger!!! I think once you used one, you'll never want to go back! One drawback, if you make a mistake on a serger it is MUCH harder to correct than on a machine... and that is if it is correctible AT ALL!

Thanks- on the pink and black mickey skirt I did not use a pattern.

I just cut 5 inch strips and pieced them together. I then measured the final product. (All of the strips.)

I made a black underskirt the same length. I then made the ruffle. I needed 15 inches of fabric for every 4 inches of ruffle.

I sewed on the ruffle to the black underskirt.

Next I made a casing on the top of the skirt and inserted the elastic.

The ruffler is very easy to use with a little practice! You will love it!

Well I got my new Brother 6000 sewing machine last night and I was SOOOOO excited. My DS1 would not go to bed last night so I didn't get to play with it, so I got up early this morning to use it. I am kind of frustrated and have a few questions. I really got this machine because of all of the high recommendations on it and I wanted a machine that I could try to applique. That said, I was playing with the zig zag and applique stitches and for some reason the bobin color is what color the zig zag is. Also the zig` zag shows up on the bottom side of the fabric. I am doing something wrong? Or is something backwards on my machine??? Thanks for the help. My other machine had a zig zag (not adjustable) but it would show up zig zag on the top and bottom of the fabric. I am just getting really frustrated!!!!

I don't know if this has been answered yet but this happened to me once.

First, make sure the bobbin is in correctly, follow the printed diagram on the bobbin case. If it is in correctly, then rethread your machine from the thread spool down, there are some tension springs that have to be "caught" just right to make the machine run properly. Usually you do this automatically as you follow the diagram, but you might have missed something somewhere.

After you have rethread your machine, and rethread your bobbin you should be good to go.

HELP ME! Something just happened to my machine. I went to wind a new color of bobbin, and some little thing that holds the bobbin on while it winds disappeared. I have no idea where it went. I don't see it on my work area anywhere. It may have fallen down into my machine. Does anyone have any clue if this is something that I can fix? Or am I gonna be forced to buy that Brother 6000i tonight? I just bought fabric for 3 dresses. I HAVE to have a machine that works.

I just finished a back to school outfit for my daughter - just have to add a button hole for the straps and the buttons and we're good to go! Unless I can figure out another way to get the straps to hold on there...

I learned a few very valuable lessons last night...

1. The seam ripper is your friend...

2. Do not sew when you're so tired you can hardly see straight to watch a football game.

3. The seam ripper is VERY sharp and will poke pin sized holes in the webbin between your thumb and pointer.

4. The seam ripper is your friend...

5. straight pins will go through fabric and your thumb if you aren't bright enough to move it!

6. Completing an outfit you didn't have to have done for 11 more days is a GREAT feeling...

Here is my Mickey outfit. I put it on him to take the picture and I just about cried. It is HUGE. I have to put a shirt under it so it doesn't fall off. I don't understand the one in the cotton barely fits him and I cut it from the same pattern.

I am not sure if I am going to have him wear it now. It almost looks like a dress.

Adorable! Is it too difficult to take the side seams in a little? Or maybe you could put a tab w/a buttonhole and a button on each side under the arms to pull it in. Or even some narrow elastic along the sides at the. I have seen that in boy's rompers before. I think that the ties mentioned in previous posts would look too feminine, but I'm sure there is something you can do. It is too cute for him not to wear.

I love all the Mickey heads!! How are you keeping the fabric from raveling? Did you fold it under around the edges and iron it before you put it on, or is there some other secret? TIA! ETA: Yikes, I posted the wrong picture. I was talking about the sewn on mickeys.

They all look great... I especially like this one.



Another option for stripwork skirts is to gather the panels onto a narrower strip of fabric at the waist. That helps cut down on the bulk at the waist without reducing the fullness. Here's an example of one I did last year. If I did it again, I'd make more panels so it's even fuller.
